NB - IPA is cheaper in 5 litre jerry cans, I paid 18 quid on Amazon for my most recent resupply, and also there's never been an issue with lightly sanding the tops of the rails to keep them clean as far as I know if you use a fine grit paper and a sanding block like you did.

Nice to see an update. OK, here is a list of enemies of an outdoor railway: ONE: Ants ( they like making their nests right under/near any rail formation causing subsidance ) TWO: Rats - same as ants but on a much bigger scale - they will absolutely wreck any earth formation embankments ! THREE: And possibly the main enemy - hedgehogs. They will bulldoze any track as they do their nocturnal hunting - these creatures have totally destroyed track and any buildings ! FOUR: Corrosion of fishplates - always a major issue. Then of course there is the weather - a pain at times, but i ran trains in the rain with no ill effect except you have to dry off everything thouroughly ! i have track completely buried for over 4 years but apart from removing grass/plant roots and washing off earth - being so buried has actually helped preserve some stretches of track, amazingly enough.

whilst there are some out there which have on-board battery supplies, in this scale they tend to be little more than toys.
