I agree with everything you have said about the RB, I've just bought a mint condition Pro SD and love it. I used Hasselblads for weddings back in the late 80's and 90's. The results were amazing but, I found them to be very unreliable! 4 out of five failed and the repair cost back then was crazy expensive. Maybe I was unlucky. I'd love to use Hasselblad again, but, I just can't bring myself to trust them. The RB has presented me with a steep learning curve, which for me is good. I don't see me changing it anytime soon!

I’ve had the Hasselblad 500CM and the Rolleiflex 2.8f, both considered the apex of this format. Truthfully, the results of seen on the Mamiya RB series is as good if not even cleaner than a Hassy. You can’t go wrong with Japanese cameras of that era-or any era, really.

One year later, I have acquired a Hasselblad 500 CM, the issue I had was a lens jam and had to send it for repair, the tech had to remove the front gear assembly to get the lens free. I will say that the Zeiss lenses on the Hasselblad are very sharp.
@EdmundKBoateng Жыл бұрын
No doubt about that, however at the time it made sense for me to use the RB. I loved the Haselblad and if it wasn't too expensive nowadays I will get another one but I haven't regretted as I do have a Mamiya C330 for when I want to shoot square. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the Hassy

QUESTION: Where did you get that grid board that your camera and keyboard are sitting on? Love to hear people who can share well thought out reasons why they made a decision. Years ago, I had a Mamiya RB67. Never used it. I did not mind the weight. I just did not like the form factor and how cumbersome it was to handhold. Moved on to Pentax 67. While I like the idea of the option of having multiple film backs, but not at the expense of 'handholdability'. Never even touched a Hasselblad. I see the world in a rectangular format. Also, until recently, Hasselblad never had an (ultra) wide option, though I suspect that the Hasselblad is the easiest (brightest) medium format film SLR viewfinder to use. Different strokes...........and all that.

Love this video, I am one of those who really wants to find a 6x8 or even a Fuji 6x9 to shoot larger frames. I really want to print large and film may be more work and less files but I am totally on the same page with you. 12 frames is enough for me when I am shooting work I am focussed on and have deliberate compositions for. I love the rediscovery of learning to use new tools and exploring the unique characteristics and processes. Thanks for sharing your journey so openly I look forward to following along!

The Hasselblad V series cameras do have cold shoe options that slide into the same position as the RB, as well as viewfinder options with a cold shoe. I purchased the non-motorized film back so that I do not have to carry batteries; the reason I chose the RB over the RZ is that the RB is completely mechanical (no batteries needed, and I felt that the RB67 has less things that can fail.) I think you'll wish you kept the Hasselblad. I've had my RB67 for a few years and I'm slowly building the 500 kit.

I have used a variety of medium format cameras. For some reason, I never bonded with the Hasselblad. It just never felt good in my hands. On the other hand, I was immediately attracted to the RB67. I now shoot with two bodies and 55, 90, 140, 150, 180, and 250mm prime lenses. I also have a 100-200 zoom which I rarely use.

Looks like a trip to the repair shop. Btw, if you haven’t found out by now, you can advance the film manually on that back, just turn the winder knob in the direction of the arrow..the film will advance to the next frame! Good luck...

Enjoyed the video. I bought a Mamiya Pro SD November 2020, and I've really enjoyed it. I do wish it were a little easier to hold while walking around with it, but overall I love it. I don't know if you've shot longish exposures with that back, but if you haven't, it's worth tracking down a manual for the film back. I tried shooting with a one-second exposure and discovered that my film back auto-advanced the film while the shutter was still open. I look forward to seeing more videos from you. Oh, by the way, is that a photo of a Waffle House sign behind you?

@EdmundKBoateng4 жыл бұрын
Not more than 2. Mostly just a roll
@Narsuitus3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the subject matter. For portraits, still-lifes, macro, and landscapes; I normally used no more than one roll per subject. However; I also used a digital camera to perform test shots. For film weddings, I usually averaged 3 or 4 rolls per wedding.
