He has the most beautiful voice. I’m not familiar with Bob. Thank you for posting. That song always makes me cry.

So seldom do we come across taped performances from a production that are any good. Perfunctory is usually the word that comes to mind in most cases (to be kind). This is a truly beautiful performance, and gorgeously sung by both. Bravi, and thank you for sharing!

Nobody does this song better than Ed Ames.

Robert Preston and Mary Marin, who opened in the original Broadway production, also do an excellent performance. While Ed Ames goes for Bravura, Mary Martin & Robert Preston sing it with love.

The voices are very good, but they don't quite achieve the touching, simple, enduring love this song conveys. That's where Martin and Preston step in.

We learned, blocked and choreographed this show in 10 days.

The lead actor looks so much like Stephen Sondheim it’s uncanny!

@SweeneyGod: Why did you delay and wait until the last minute? 10 days sounds impressive but it’s more like a last minute effort.

Personally I wish theatre companies would do less productions of Last Five Years and more productions of this.

@@johnpickford4222 We didn't. The producer had to cancel two other shows and needed to fill the spot. Somehow, she had gotten it in her head that we had already done the show and told that to the director. When Patti and I arrived at the first production meeting, everything was going fine until we asked when the show opened. The producer said "... in 10 days, but of course you done the show before, so that's plenty of time." We looked at her with our mouths hanging open and said, "No, we haven't." She said, "... but you told me a few years ago you'd done it." I said, "No, I said we'd love to do it someday, but we've never done the show." At this point, the shocked director stood up, and was heading toward the door with the producer begging him to come back. What followed was the most intense production meeting I've ever had, followed by a week-and-a-half of cramming for a very public final exam!😳😂

The song is really intended as a duet from a male./female couple to convey the love a couple grow into after long years of marriage. While we appreciate Ed Ames superlative rendition, this vital element is lost

They’re nice but they’re not MARY MARTIN and ROBERT PRESTON.
