The reason people try to stress we need to keep these conversations going in fiction is bc if you’re not on top of shit you look up one day and a 30 something is writing real person fanfiction with graphic SA and minors in it, getting mad like that’s a normal hobby uwu what’s wrong

Trauma therapy has pounded this one into my head: You DO NOT have to forgive people. Not for closure, not for anything. You can move on with your life without offering them that kindness.
@LynIsALilADHD
@LynIsALilADHD Жыл бұрын
@Fern the Green Fairy oh, trust... I've had some baaaaad therapists for trauma.... one told me I had to sit in my feelings and respect them... that ended in a multi-day flashback episode that was absolutely horrid. There's a certain type of trauma that you can't exactly "work thru"... some cases (ie my cptsd) aren't likely to get to a stable enough point to do EMDR therapy which is the hands down best way to deal with trauma..... and the goal is more co-existing with the trauma than getting over it.... that said.... yeah, lots of conflicting info out there.

@Fern the Green Fairy through PTSD therapy i’ve learned that it’s best to forgive yourself. i’ve noticed that i’ll get mad at myself for overlooking things that lead to my trauma, so sometimes it’s makes a bigger difference forgiving yourself to move on rather than forgiving the abuser, etc.

Saying that insinuates that Adam is stupid imo. He’s not. I think things like this just comes with experience as you age. Sometimes, you trust too easily and the wrong people will make you lose all that trust real fucking quick. For some it happens very early, for some never. Has nothing to do with their pre frontal cortex. There are people under 25 who have to grow up very quickly to no fault of their own, and are incredibly smart despite their prefrontal cortex not being fully developed. Maybe I’m the only one who takes it offensively like that idk lol. I don’t mean this in an aggressive way towards you at all, so pls don’t take it that way. I do absolutely agree he should give himself some grace though. It’s not easy dealing with manipulative ass sociopathic adults, ESPECIALLY when you’re only a teenager yourself. He was naive and thought he was friends with his idol. It’s not his fault that the people he was “friends” with were nothing but predatory.. in many ways.

I commend Adam, despite everything he's been through, for being able to see things through such a nuanced lens. Like, even acknowledging that Kodee was manipulated is such a mature thing to say, given how self-serving Kodee has been/is being. It's both a strength and a weakness to have that sort of nuanced, empathetic perspective. On one hand, it stops you from shunning everyone away for mistakes made, on the other, it can blind you to malice that's right in front your eyes.
