I spent way to much time on this episode lol, I give some tips I learned, and Im always adjusting the process, so give any tips you might have when it comes to purging or selling records. I like using eBay to sell my extra records. I tired to flip records this time around and it didn't works for me just end up making my money back hahaha

Hi Monie ! If a cd 💿 is not easily available on vinyl or has bonus tracks it still ( as you found out ) has resale value & with new vinyl running close to $50 Dollars 💸 many ( including me ) are returning to cd format. Have a great weekend 😊 !

yeah I just purged my record collection too. so much stuff I dont listen to and probably will never listen to. years ago it was so easy for me to get carried away with accumulating more records but now im at a point where I just want to own what I love.

I donated and sold more than 2500 lps in the 90s to my high school, collage and library because of cds. I kept all my favs including 300 now 400 Elvis lps and others. I really lost alot of money going by what vinyl costs now. Im glad your enjoying the Elvis❤ If you dont give that one Elvis to you nephew it sells for 25 at vg+ if it is an orange lable. 20 if a black or tan lable incase he doesnt like it fyi ❤

Another amazing video monie im the same way if a misolanenous album that i don't play much 2 ways pass it to someone who likes it or sell or trade so you get something or get money off it. I mostly sell if i go to a lost and found spots used book stores or independent record stores as well because it takes up space if i don't even listen to it . All formats cassette tapes cds and vinyl records sell or trade and i understand why you buying more cds because vinyl prices are going thru the roof but i know you still buy vinyl but i love all formats of music physical media always wins and its great to collect as well props monie is a great video its entertaining learning and a listen experience with this video keep on doing this amazing content the likes is up on this video take care and have a blessed Friday always enjoyable

I have seen more and more peop,e grabbing CDs. Eventually the stores will catch up and push those prices up. Great way to get some great music. I never could get into Elvis, I must be to young lol

Interesting what you said about the Elvis live record. It was his first live concerts since like 1961 or so. I get what you mean about his delivery of the songs. He was very excited and it comes through in the frantic pace of the rock songs especially. Thanks for the video.

I've done only one true LP purge, and it was years ago. That one was of LPs that didn't align with my sensibilities. One was Rare Earth's "Ma;" the last track was titled "Come with Me" and it WASN'T about traveling. I decided it was too graphic for me and tossed the LP because of that song. Pink Floyd's LP "Echoes" met the same fate because the title track (I think it was the title track) had these otherworldly sounds that sounded satanic to me; I was uncomfortable enough to toss it. A few other LPs went because I just decided I didn't want them. I am planning a laserdisc purge, because I have the content on Blu-ray. As for your purge, if you're going to buy more records, I think it's a good idea to go through your collection periodically and move on from some things, so you'll have room for any new ones you get.

@@MonieMuse You’re not kidding Monica! I try not to pick at random. I have a massive want list I stick to. I primarily buy online. The record stores I like are 5-6 hours driving distance. That helps my record buying habits too lol

Art Garfunkel works best with a compilation/greatest hits IMO. My favorite songs by him are Breakaway, and All I Know. Of course I prefer his work with Simon and Garfunkel more.

Were you saying that you use a glass cleaner to wipe down your records? I just thought I'd post this information I copied and pasted in case that was the case. You have to be careful what you put on the vinyl records because a lot of chemicals are very bad for and damaging to them. And maybe I misunderstood what you were saying? Anyhow, here's what the first search result on Google said and it was pretty much repeated by all of the others. "Windex and other commercial cleaning products are not recommended for cleaning vinyl records because they can damage the record's surface and label, and may affect its long-term playability. Windex contains harsh chemicals that can leave a residue on records, block the grooves, and break down the protective coating..." Brian in Fort Worth 🎶

I was taking off the dust using the glass cleaner on the cloth, sometimes I use distill winter, I’m always looking for easy ways to do a fast clean on the cds and records . Thank you for taking the time to look up the info for me. This is why I share it cause i don’t always knows what works or doesn’t and why .. but the community will let me know for sure lol

I rarely purge my vinyl collection only because I am picky about what vinyl I pick up and just don't need to do it that much, but I have purged it a couple of times in the past, never easy. I'm currently purging my CD collection as we speak as they say. I have the Byrds record and most of their discography. Yeah, it does lean a bit more to the country side of the spectrum, but it's not too bad and I have it for scope. I don't mind a bit of "real" country in my collection, its the modern pop sounding crap they try to pass of as country that I can't even tolerate musically or lyrically. Things not allowed to cross my front door threshold: 1)That modern so-called country crap 2) Today's pop, including Taylor Swift 3) Racist and whack job artists like Ted Nugent 4) Hip Hop/Rap (I just don't get it). 5) Xmas noise (health issue) I can't see records or anything, I have to just give them away to Goodwill or whatever. I used to take them to the one record store within driving distance and they used to give me credit, but record stores no longer do that. I don't do Ebay or Paypal or stuff like that, too dangerous. I also can't afford to ship stuff and records are not worth almost anything monetarily. Monetary value is all fabricated. I see my Dylan records, same exact pressings as I have that I paid $4 brand new in the 80s now going for $20 to $40 used each! If I stuck them on Ebay or whatever, I bet everything I would not get more than $4 each on the best day. I won't play the game. It is not why I buy records anyway. Your not using the glass cleaner on the actual record, are you?!! I hope not! If you want shelfs for records Ikea is your friend and a little less expensive than Target. Think Kalax shelves at Ikea. I and many others use those. I modify mine with angle brackets and stoppers. The angle brackets give strength.

@@ericelliott227 good point on just being picky from the start, when I just started collecting I accepted anything and I also didn’t know what I liked, so I took chances a lot , I am also a sucker for records on sale so some of these were cheap buys. I also don’t buy to sell but I like to try and get extra cash to buy more records . It’s good you have a list of what you don’t like and what you don’t take. I use the glass cleaner on the cloth, bad idea? It takes off the dust . It works great on cds. Thanks for watching and sharing your process also no Taylor swift?!!! @@MonieMuse Using glass cleaner on CDs is fine because they are acrylic. The data is basically peaks and valleys (1 and zeros) on a very thin aluminum plate that gets sandwiched between two layers of acrylic applied in liquid form in a cleanroom environment. Tiny scratches here or there are nothing, the only thing that renders them unplayable are cracks and if air gets between the layers of acrylic you get CD rot. The only way for air to get in is a compromised in the edge seal caused by extreme heat or "trimming" the edge. Actually, the better thing to use on CDs is eyeglass cleaner. However, on records, window cleaner should be nowhere near them! Records are PVC, a whole other animal than acrylic and susceptible to damage by certain fluids that are the wrong pH and have chemicals that react with PVC. That spray window cleaner (I use that one myself) has Ammonia in it (an derivative of ammonia). Ammonia is major NO-NO on PVC! It doesn't matter if you spray it on a cloth first or directly on the record. That dealer or whoever that told you to use that on your records is dead wrong! He probably also uses or used to use lighter fluid, which is an age old trick to shine records. Lighter fluid melts the grooves!!! If the record is clean but just dusty and you want to take a picture of it, use a carbon fiber dusting brush. There will always be dust on records. If you are trying to "shine" the record for sale, don't! It is not only unscrupulous, but the buyer is going to pull it out anyway and there will be dust on it straight away. That is why we use something like a carbon fiber brush on our records when we put them on the table for play. If you want to make the records "shiny" then clean them safely and properly. Some will shine up and some will not depending. Nearly all your records can end up shining if you restore them, but that is a whole other set of gear, methodology, dedication, etc. Be grateful it is not mandatory, it is not for the faint of heart, it is only for those of us slightly off our rocker. LOL! Seriously, it is something one has to learn how to do and anyone can, but it is time consuming and that is partly why not too many want to go that far. In my opinion the rewards and ROI is worth it, but that's just me. You can quick clean your records to make them look better with either plain distilled water or Mobile Fidelity one-step cleaner or AIVS #6. Do NOT use isopropyl (alcohol), dish soap or anything else! I studied record care and custodianship for two years, including running my own experiments and talking to academics, learning a little chemistry, etc. and have been cleaning records for over two decades and restoring them for the last 8 years. I even helped write some of the tech manual for an ultrasonic RCM. I have been around and lived with records even longer since I was a kid in the 70s. I am actually a volunteer custodian of records (at least that is what some in the industry have titled me, but there is presently no "certificate" as such. As soon as someone comes out with one though I'll take the test or whatever and have it. I care for and restore records partly because I am a historian. Records hold great history of society. I even have an artifact from 1974 (sample ballot) found in a record sleeve from the previous owner forgetting they slipped it in. Ultimately, I restore because records are meant to be played and enjoyed.
