I’M WITH KIMMY-NO DOG! 🤣😁 Kimmy is absolutely right, all the work will fall to her and with your family’s busy lifestyle it will create acute anxiety for her. To help you out I made a little list to support Kimmy! 🤣 Reasons to Be Dog-Free: 1. No fenced yard 2. No time for dog training class 3. More mess in the house/eaten toys 4. Walks needed multiple times a day 5. Vacationing becomes difficult-have to pay for kenneling 6. Finding safe/reputable kennel 7. Vet expenses 8. Kids rooms/ongoing messes on floor become grosser with dog mess added to it - includes pee/poo when they forget to take the dog out. 9. Anything on floors becomes property of the dog and destroyed, creating hard feelings and return to the shelter. 😢 10. No extra seat in vehicle for dog should an emergency evacuation need to take place - fire, earthquake etc. 11. Can’t leave food on counters, dog will get it. 11. Kimmy has enough anxiety and homemaker/KZbin/church work, don’t give her more! 👍 I hope this is helpful for you! 🤣 Merry Christmas 🎄!

Yes! Having a dog (we have 3, 2 were not by my choice) makes it so hard to go on spur of the moment trips, so so so much hair and drool everywhere (one of them is an English Bull Dog and licks everything), constant barking, messes, getting out and running around the neighborhood despite a fenced in yard, I could go on and on. Dogs are just not for some people, and that's okay. They get my anxiety up all the time and after they are gone there will be no more dogs for us. I do agree though if, like me, they wear you down go for an older dog instead of a puppy. They are less likely to find homes, less likely to chew everything up, and more likely to be housetrained. Good luck, mama!

From one mom to another, I am literally lifting my hands in hallelujah when you say that getting another pet is like having another child and ultimately everything is going to fall on you. You could not be more on point! I will only get a pet if I know for a fact I have the time energy and the will to take care of 99% of its needs because I know what’s going to happen!

Yep, agree with you Kimmie. No dog. I take care of every animal in this house. Dogs are JUST like having 3 year old children and I can tell you right now if you like your home clean you won't want a dog. Mud. Accidents. Slobber. Fur. My dog just yesterday had diarrhea all over my carpets. I have to get a steam cleaner to get the stains out. I have more anxiety now then I ever had before having a dog. Now, that being said, I do LOVE my dogs and I wouldn't want to lose them but I am definitely on your side on this one.

Mamma Metzger I agree to a degree. Definitely when they’re puppies. Our dog is 5 yrs old now so for the past couple years my older son has cleaned up the poop & both boys take turns feeding. The older one (13) can also walk her. So it’s for sure a family effort & we adore our lab girl. Dogs are the best!

Remember though that older dogs don’t always adjust well to busy households with louder children. Our shelter would allow you to do sleepovers with older dogs to see if they would adjust well to your household. We got a 8 week old puppy almost 2 years ago and yes potty training was a nightmare but we were able to train her to not only our commands but also our then 6 year old sons.

agreed, that's why we get greyhounds. but there are so many young adult dogs, mutts and breeds that would make a wonderful pet. Just spend time with them first to see if they have the right temperament. Any adult dog though will take a bit of time to warmup to your family so don't worry about that,. just look for a confident dog that isn't afraid of noise, kids, etc..

I agree with Jo Tyson below.. Show commitment in volunteering at a shelter regularly for X amount of days or weeks prior to getting a puppy/dog. Let them see what cleaning up after them is like, bathing, walking and feeding etc and if you go the puppy option I'd personally get one once the snow has cleared so toilet training is easier as well as walking it.

Kimmy, our 17yr old daughter has asked for dog since she was 4 yrs old. She finally adopted a pure bread Australian Shepherd and he has been the sweetest. No dog unless YOU want the dog!!! Once the shiny wears off, you will be feeding it, cleaning up after it, taking it to vet visits, grooming it, and so on.... It will be YOU that does it all! We love our pet rabbit and my 12 yr old son and husband actually look after it! He’s an indoor rabbit and has a litter box, we never had to toilet train him, he just did it himself. Honestly he is like a little puppy he has such a big personality and is so playful and loving, - he is everyone’s favourite member of our family. I’m allergic to most animals, especially cats (as is my daughter) but we have no problems with our rabbit. I snuggle into his silky soft fur all the time. I’ve never been a pet person but I’ve definitely found the perfect pet for us! I don’t think many people realise what amazing companions rabbits make! ❤️

All my dogs have been rescue dogs and I was involved with the dog shelter for years. Here is a thought...dog sit for people in your neighborhood and see how your kids handle it. Fostering a dog from the shelter is an idea. There are also a lot of senior dogs that need homes....owners die etc. Adopting a dog is huge responsibility and life time commitment. Your yard is not fenced. You also have to dog proof your house. I love my dogs they are family but our life revolves around them.
@bethanyheadley39975 жыл бұрын
I like this - lots of shelters need fosters for senior dogs because they're high kill. Shelters also usually provide the food, crate, vet bills, etc. It's a good way to see if your family will help and see if it actually can help with your anxiety. Personally, I have suffered from anxiety and depression for years (which only multiplied when I had kids), and my dogs make all the difference. They say sitting and petting/cuddling with a dog or cat for 20 minutes a day can greatly reduce your anxiety. However, that being said, I would do your research and say that if you get a dog, it gets to be the kind of dog YOU want, since we all know you will be the one spending most of the time with it.

This is the same argument I have with my husband. I want a dog, but my husband is a total cat person and we currently have two cats. (Most of the reason why I want a dog is so that I can train it to be a service dog, which is the only way my husband would consider getting one. My health has been getting worse and so it would be nice to have a dog to alert my aunt-in-law who lives upstairs rather than have two cats that stare at me while I have my seizures.) There are a lot of perks to having a dog and I do understand their side, but I definitely agree with you about the responsibilities. If they really want a dog, they need to promise to help with it and not leave everything to you.

I got your back you will be the one taking care of it and you shouldn't get a dog if you don't have a fenced-in yard dogs need to run free and be safe. They are like another child that you have to take care of 24/7 and they make you worry and it's very stressful. We had two dogs for 15/17 years that I had full responsibility of that have since passed but I was extremely stressed out and once they passed I started getting healthier feeling better breathing better and became happy. My health improved so much it was incredible I did love the dogs I cared for them just like they were my children and if I wouldn't have been so attached to them I'm sure I wouldn't have been so stressed out and worried about them. You can't just leave and go out of town for a night or two if you have a dog either can't leave the dog at home by itself lol.

I am not a dog person at all. My husband and kids have been begging for a dog and my answer was always no. Until I caved and said yes. We bought a little yorkie and even though it is a lot of work especially during the puppy phase, its so worth it. I can say I don't regret it at all. Coco is so sweet and fits perfectly into our family. My kids love her and they do help, sometimes without me even asking. Part of their zone is to play with her for 10 minutes! Anyways, I say go for it, but I would go for a smaller breed. My dog has also helped me with anxiety. She is seriously the best dog!!!

I do have your back on the whole dog situation...they're messy, they smell bad, they need constant grooming, you gotta clean their poop, walk them all the time. All the kids are like "yeah I'll take care of it and love it and clean it's poop" but every morning at 5 am you wake up to poop on the floor, screaming kids who can't handle this, a frazzled dog that feels bad about pooping on the floor and the shedding is RELENTLESS!!! A dog is like having another child and when you're swamped as it is, it's not a very good choice to get a dog because it needs more love and attention than you can spare.

My boys are older now so we got our dog and I love her so much but I’m glad I waited. They are a huge responsibility!

Kimmy my daughter surprised me with a dog on Christmas Eve 3 years ago. I’ve never had a dog. That’s my dog in my avatar. I don’t care about the “work” involved because I love her so much. And she’s not that much work. You can’t imagine how they change your life for the better until you have one.🐶They are wonderful to have if you suffer from anxiety.

I think the plaid inside 😊 I agree with you about the dog. We have 2, and who looks after them???...ME! Not the other 3 humans in the house...ME! 🙃

I think I like the plaid inside too. Then you get just a hint against the black shirt. Love it!!

I'm with you, no dog. Your family is always on the go. It is also so hard to go away for vacation when there are pets involved.

Dogs are definitely like having more children in the house. I have 4 kids and 2 dogs and it’s definitely a mad house sometimes 🤦♀️
