Learning to manage - and prioritize - expectations and how (and when !) to split your time is something you'll probably use for the rest of your life. Definitely good skills to have !

I appreciate your perspective Grace! I was and am again in a similar spot. Happy to see other like minded people out there slaying.

In Oklahoma we shoot outdoors year around but for 3 months it is tough. The only time we have canceled a weekly practice session is when the roads are icy. You can dress for the cold temps but weapon access changes.

Being alone on the range is the best. I haven't had a range to myself in a couple years. I went out right when it opened and there was 6" of snow on the ground. So much more relaxing and enjoyable when you can shoot and check your target at will. It lasted a couple of hours before people started showing up.

😭 I hate winter as well. All the clubs stop having matches after end of October... Got into shooting competition to use it as training, but ended up falling in love with the sport. Trying to stay as an U class for now so I can enjoy the sport and not worry about classifiers.

Warning ⚠️ Long Post Incoming As a 30-something, I am experiencing what you are referring to as learning “to manage your expectations.” I have a lot of interests too (chess, coaching, shooting, hiking, sometimes being physically active, sometimes reading a good book), and I get anxious trying to figure out how to fit it all in with a full-time teaching job. I still haven’t figured it out, and it feels as if I’m being caught “lacking” whenever I show up to perform well at a competition or lesson and I don’t meet my own expectations. The worst thing is that I don’t want to give up something to grant me more time to prep and excel in something else because life is short and I love having multiple inputs in life. Going forward, I like the general message of this video (even when it got rambling 😅), and I need to learn to be okay with the output I’m getting from the work I’m putting in. Or adjust my life balance to earn the kind of output I’m looking for. For what I primarily do, shooting doesn’t make sense from a financial or a time-investment standpoint. I like doing it to see how far I can go. I’m just getting into IDPA and GSSF matches, and I want to see where I can go with that. I’ll end by highlighting another key point from your video: life comes in seasons. On a Saturday, I could see myself shooting at a match or on the range, but I could also be going to a chess match, expanding my chess business, doing an overnight hike, or participating in various social functions (because nobody tells you how hard it is to stay social in your 30s). This holiday, I need to sit down and layout my calendar so I can do all of the things when it’s right to do so and to do it well. Sorry for the long post, but I do like this kind of content more so than the mindless shooting montages. Have a good range session and class!

Man I wish my range looked like that in the winter. As it is I gotta be very careful otherwise my vehicle could easily get stuck on the ice. Parts of the winter make outdoor ranges completely off limits even if you have a badass pickup truck and currently I do not have a badass pickup truck. Next vehicle will definitely be a pickup tho.

A badass 4 wheel drive pickup will get twice as stuck as a 2 wheel drive pickup.

Florida is really rough in the winter. Gets down in the 40's and it's practically a state of crisis.
