We haven't had democracy in most countries for a couple of decades! What we have is an Autocracy. A country controlled by, and for, the rich and powerful. You can see this by governments doing nothing about the ever widening gap between the rich and poor.

Most of those whining about the gap between the rich and poor supported lockdown and all policies that have led to worldwide recession. That's your democracy, not an autocracy

Relying on the title, my comment would be: democracy in an illusion, allowing some expression, however the gov does what that it wants... I dont think people want things to get more expensive every year, or their taxes rise, or have the nhs get to that level of shortages, I dont think the british or americans wanted to go to Afghanistan or iraq but the governments decided to do all that and they went ...

!9:30 "I think the beauty of life is to discover who we are and why we are here. It’s almost like a religious question. But we cannot avoid answering this question because we are only born once. And it’s going to be over when we die. So, if by that time we don’t know and are not celebrating our life-we do not protect the integrity of life-it is wasted. It’s abandoned. We could still make money and eat well and drink beer and celebrate-but there is no spirit there, and no integrity there-thus you cannot convince anybody. It comes from consciousness; the consciousness always comes from practice by yourself. Nobody could teach you about consciousness. So, if you are not aware of the meaning of life, you are abandoned. Sorry, that’s the fact."

ai weiwei's REJECTION of ALL ALLEGIANCE to any particular country reminds me of karl marx's STATELESSNESS since 1845 n his sentiment regarding state... (In Marxism, Marx's theory of the state considers that in a post-capitalist society the state, an undesirable institution, would be unnecessary and wither away. A related concept is that of stateless communism, a phrase sometimes used to describe Marx's anticipated post-capitalist society. WIKIPEDIA) to me, a lot of ai weiwei's philosophy is influenced by karl marx. after all, we can't shake off the teachings during our upbringing in our FORMATIVE YEARS.
