I know you’ve got a system that works, but for what it’s worth, I loved your old “saving your disaster campaign” videos and would totally watch full streams of you saving one campaign. I think there’s a lot of potential in seeing you tackle situations that are so screwed you have to play in completely new ways with totally un-optimal armies. It’s like the challenge of the early campaign but on steroids.

Once he's got the advantage we know what happens and I think viewers lose interest then, and KZbin punishes unfinished video views. But just enough to save them (not completely to where it's now all fixed). Viewers also watch to learn and they want to know how to deal with emergency situations

I have a Skryre campaign on the back burner where I'm undercitying all of Lustria with the goal to Doom sphere and Vermintide the whole continent at once, without landing any regular armies. Haven't pulled the trigger on it yet, but thought it was a fun test.

this was probably that one video on youtube of a guy doing that before the patch. Basicly, undercities used to be way easier to build/expand, meaning you could create such apocalyptic scenario way faster

Yeah, that campaign was completed a good several patches ago and is essentially impossible to replicate now (almost irrespective of difficulty, I believe, adjustments to detectability, whether by agents or on the buildings in question, and the duration of the build chain for the most part), so the challenge is more about getting as much done as possible before it all goes to shit as opposed to actually trying to achieve the full map nuke-ocalypse. I'm guessing the player who submitted this is broadly aware of how the patch right after that video went up basically made it close to impossible to nuke the Oak of Ages on VH+, given how they conquered the area.

You must always pick a member of the Ordertide to wipe out in the early game. Either Brets, Dwarfs, Empire or High Elves. Doesn't matter which just focus on taking them out or you end up in this situation where you are always treading water trying to fight them off.

I use the Under-Empire in regions that are red to me until i can properly get rid of the enemy there. But doing an entire campaign with Under-Empire only seems like a masochist challenge to me.

Every vampire counts/Dreadfleet campaign i've played i DESPERATELY try to avoid angering the ordertide so i don't have to deal with bullshit like this. Us non-chaos affiliated bad guys (Vampire factions, skaven, orcs) really have the shit end of the stick. Chaos hates us, and the ordertide hates us too. Even the tomb kings get the pass from ordertide! THEY'RE UNDEAD! Goddamn hypocritical ordertide bullies.

There is another easy solution to the Luminark problem. You can let it shoot at a unit of skavenslaves. I did a test in custom battles where a single unit was able to soak up all of the ammo of the Luminark while standing still and breaking only once. Depending on difficulty and other campaign factors results may vary, but it's most likely a very favourable trade.

When playing as Skryre, or even skaven in general really, I prefer to establish all the undercities I can in Ulthuan. Simply because it is uninhabitable territory, and I never plan to take it anyway. Also, there are a fair few HE cities that have a pretty high income, so big stonks. And they hate you anyway, so who cares if they hate you a bit more.

Agree. Ulthwan also tends to be pretty far down the "to do" list, and has a minimal risk of your gracious hosts suffering an untimely demise, so your undercity investments are safe. Also, your ratties hanging onto the bottom of the donut for dear life will never not make me smile.

On my Skryre Campaign, I was lucky enough to get an alliance with strength rank 2 Malekith. Normally allies suck ass, but he legit stopped the high elf invasions when he rolled into Ulthuan and it gave me the freedom to comfortably wipe out Bretonnia, Athel Loren, and Reikland before my final showdown with the dwarf super empire. It was a miserably tedious campaign, but one of my favorites to date.

Wait so undercity expansion is not the meta for skaven? I thought that they get significantly more income from undercity settlements than actually capturing those settlements? Also that leaves your investments safe from attack as long as you keep them undiscovered, no?

i find its better to use them for food. you get a ton of money from high level settlements because every building makes you money, and you need a constant and huge supply of food to t5 everything, plus you've got workshop stuff and menaces below to spend it on too.

No, its not. As Syrus said, way more efficient to use them for food. Or put down a few special workshops and cheapen your gun units. Money siphoning with the % building is only useful on the handful of rich provinces, assuming they are tier 3-5 like Lothern, Hexoatl, Naggarond etc. As for the regular one which gives 3-500 gold or so, only worth on the long run if you know you wont go and conquer it for like 20+ turns for sure.

It is meta to establish them on your friends' territory or just some territory where you not going to expand. Playing Ikit I usually send an army to Ulthuan to populate it with Under-cities and help DE to take it. So eventually you get friendly DE, heaps of loot/sack money and ~20 under cities. Highly recommend. And yes, as mentioned above focusing on food in under-cities is more efficient. Also worth to build raiding building in rich cities.

@@jackogoeswacko4smackos man seriously get the hell out of wood elf territory. hell restart the campaign and this time balance out the lvl 5 cities you own. I do a lot of under cities (focus on food) and then focus on getting decent borders so when everyone declare on you, they are faced with lvl 5 city defenses or one of your deadly armies. Fix your armies: -get more artillery, 6 plague claw catapults can do mince meat of everything(don't do lightning cannons since they do not arc and jazziles do a better job) -get 4 rattling guns and 2+ jazziles and you are set for units. -get 1 engineer and 2-3+ plague priests(for crowd control) Use summons and not melee infantry. (I place 1 eshin sorcerer for -10% enemy speed map wide, but that is optional and not really needed)

@@MrDragon01 i think all "faction wide" bonuses that a lord provide (from the skill tree upgrade ecc.) still applies even if you disband him, but if he dies in combat it will no longer provide them (exept if he is immortal), heroes on the other hand can provide those bonuses only if they are alive and in the map, because when you disband a mortal hero you are practically "killing him" while the lords still live. For example a knowledgeable lord can be recruited and disbanded and the bonus still persist, while a knowledgeable hero must be in the map to provide it

34:20 Just alt-F4 and load again. It will roll back and put you on the battle settings again, so you can opt out of controlling large armies (or retreat, not attack etc.).

Undercities are a really good thing to prepare your Invasion, because you increase the Skaven coruption and also have some cool options when you build then high enough, but yeah I would also not completely base my economy on them, maybe keep one or two weak enemies on side that will not be a threat and there it can be a good idea to build them but otherwise there is no point to have them everywhere ^^

I actually recently tried a campaign idea similar to this. I thought it would be an interesting challenge to play as Ikit claw and make my final win condition I need to Doomsphere every city in the game, hopefully on the same turn. Not allowed to raze any cities (Besides Beastmen heardstones, because they're super annoying while doing this.) Must declare war on all factions you meet (Besides other skaven) Cannot occupy any cities beyond skavenblight, even temporarily for regens/recruitment. I didn't finish it, fighting on the same 4 maps around skavenblight gets pretty boring after awhile, and without being able to kill the humans neighboring you, but constantly bullying them so they don't grow to be too big of a threat, you end up with a lot of fights where you're just butchering full armies of spearmen. I think it has potential as a fun challenge with a bit more refinement on the rules though! Nuking the whole world at once in itself seems like a meme worthy achievement to chase

if you mean in the ambush battle at the start, this is how AI behaves as defender in ambush battles, if you allow it to get its units into battle order instead of attacking immediately in the ambush zone.

Three? I know of the one in Ulthuan and the one in Dark Elf territory. Where is the third? And yes, in my first ever Morathi campaign I was a bit confused. I had conquered both Anvils without realising that there were 2 settlements of the same name (not paying attention to the location names at the time), got messaged about a rebellion/raiding at Vaul's Anvil (which was the Ulthuan one), but I was looking at Vaul's Anvil in Dark Elf lands at that point and wondering what rebellion the game was talking about, because I couldn't see it :-)

I don't think that ca does or should aspire to give the ai decent human level intelligence. The ai should be fun to play against, and it should put a decent challange on the player. It should use and react to all unit types and situations in a reasonable way. But the player wants to defeat the ai whilst beeing outclassed and outnumbered giving them a satisfying and epic experience. If the only way to win an uneven battle would be abusing exploits and cheese, would that really be fun anymore? I'd rather overcome a stronger enemy in high difficulty than constantly haveing to outnumber a smarter one. At least in a single player game.

Yes, but 'Total War' is not optimal, and it promises likely losses, slow expansion and more brutal challenge. That sounds good for some. For others, surgically removing enemies, playing smarter, making sure you're never over your head is the more fun option.

"War" does not necessarily mean charging headlong into endless conflict. Logistics matters in war, perhaps even more so than battlefield tactics. That being said, if you want to go the berserker route, just pick a Chaos faction like Khorne or the Beastmen

Total War just means that the entirety of your economy and resources are marshalled, in one way or another, to the destruction of your enemy. It is not "Let's be at war with everyone all the time."
