Here are some parts of the THE PREAMBLE - THE SPIRIT OF CRICKET from the MCC Laws of Cricket. - Accept the umpire’s decision. - Show self-discipline, even when things go against you - Congratulate the opposition on their successes. In the spirit of Cricket - Stokes should have just congratulated the Aussie Team for successfully getting Johnny out within the MCC Laws of Cricket. To whinge and whine that he would have done something different is not in the Spirirt of Cricket at all according to the pre-amble. In fact the whole English Crowd & the MCC members do not understand what the spirit of Cricket is. Accept the Umps decision, keep your mouth shut & move on. It's basically written in Black & White.

I am not surprised by the outrage of the English fans and MCC members, because since Brexit, Britain as a whole has become very angry and very anti-foreigner; and very vocally so. Brexit was about Empire v2.0 and British exceptionalism, and having "former colonies" winning is not meant to be part of the new v2 script - especially when Britain was expecting the Commonwealth to support Brexit Britain going forward, seeing as Britain feels the world "owes it" for "civilizing" so much of it. The fact that the Australian trade deal has been such a humiliation, further compounds the matter of feeling disrespected by the world... Britain has lost so much prestige and experienced such catastrophic humiliation due to the disaster of Brexit, that it is just lashing out at anyone or anything that is seen to be doing better than Britain, whether it be Germans getting sun-loungers ahead of them in Spain, or beating Britain / England at cricket etc. Also, what is more British / English than cricket? Britain / England cannot deal with the fact that it is in decline and a waning power across most aspects of life from big stuff to the little stuff like cricket - that is why the MCC's "gentlemen" members were so so febrile etc. they sadly embody the new found spirit and voice of Brexit Britain...

@@SaltBushCity I am based in the UK (Midlands), but took a contract out in Africa for 6 months, but might role it for another 6 months or possibly even another year - if the customer is agreeable etc. - I needed some sunshine - LOL! People are just so angry in the UK because of how bad things are, especially as the cost of living is hurting so much - and that has been exacerbated exponentially by Brexit. They even electronically security tag cheese (even the small 300g blocks) in the stores now to prevent theft - even the big 4/5 shops/retailers do this! For me it is the increase in road rage that is just staggering, and probably the most revealing, as I do quite a long commute (over 100 miles each way) - it wasn't like this before Brexit, but now people get set off by the slightest thing... I also stopped going into the town /village centre in last year and a half or so, because people are having punch-ups - even a Monday evening is not safe! Sadly, the anger and stress levels are off the scale...

Excellent summary. I got a similar impression from the absolutely insane forelock-tugging around the Queen's funeral ("this is the most important event in world history" said one English commentator) and the subsequent coronation of Charles ("no one does pomp and pageantry like us")... and then getting angry with the world for finding it anachronistic. The obsession with slagging off Meghan Markle for not wanting to stay in a country where she was abused on a daily basis... the sneering at Americans as uncouth while cherry-picking from your own culture (*cough* football hooliganism, The Sun, Katie Price *cough*)... Wheeling out Jeremy Clarkson and Piers Morgan to sneer at brown people, women and Johnny Foreigner.. Cutting economic ties with Commonwealth countries in 1971, then expecting them to welcome you with open arms 50 years later... Liz Truss - who'd never negotiated a trade agreement in her life - having the hide to sneer to UK newspapers that poor unsophisticated Australia "was out of their depth" - when dealing with the UK. It all points to myopic nostalgia for some mythical past when the English felt that they ruled the roost, and "How dare those upstart colonials beat us by following the rules of the game WE invented?"

Lol all they’re doing is firing the Aussies up even more while having a sook, if that’s their “ploy” it’s having quite the opposite effect.

It's not unsettling anyone. They look pathetic and unsportsmanlike.

Look, it's within the rules, so just take it and then honestly admit you don't really care how you win as long as you win.

Are you kidding me? Kiwi's hate Australia mate. You couldn't get a more hostile place for Australian sport other than England.

Australia won, get on with it and stop whimpering. Personally, I like the Aussie approach. Spirit of the game, laughable. It’s all about winning!

the West Indies will struggle as they don't have the money to pay their best players...their best players have become T20 wanderers, as they will earn more money from the IPL, BBL or other tournaments
