I assume the cost of paying to have 3rd party titles available on Game Pass is what they need to stay ahead of.
@True_Terror_Tales6 ай бұрын
the problem is that the game pass is such a good deal it's literally killing microsoft's gaming division. who is ever going to pay 70 dollars for whatever microsoft game comes out when you could play it and everything else you want for a month for like fifteen bucks? so instead of making seventy bucks per person every first party release, they make fifteen bucks once a month. plus they pay these other indies and shit to get their games on the pass. the server doesn't play into it at all.
@LeMicronaut6 ай бұрын
@@True_Terror_Tales technically, it's a way to get people to pay $70 a game anyways. Muta called it two games worth, yeah maybe if you're buying ultimate editions like mk1 (trash), but that's really 4 launch titles. When I grew up, my family maybe bought one or two new games a year, MAX. Microsoft is making off like a bandit since they've managed to now cut off the secondary market. Now it only takes 3 months of consuming slop you probably would have never tried before/ would be paying $15 a title at most to have now paid the same price for ONE launch title that you actually intended to play. The thing about subs like humble is if you cancel it cause you don't like a month's offerings, you can still play the games you bought already. In gamepass you can't so you're basically on the hook to pay every single month. Game pass has never been a good proposition and the early pricing was only to acclimate people and blind them to the purchasing powers they've lost.

Adding onto that the absence of online play. Unless you're buying a super high end gaming PC you'll ultimately be spending less money owning a PC than a console. Something you gotta consider at least for now is the fewer commercials that are interrupting your shows or movies. I’d rather pay $80 a month for subscription services and no commercials than $80 a month for cable with tons of commercials. We see now that benefit of lack of commercials won’t last for much longer, but it’s worth considering for now.

Best thing to do is dip in and dip out when you see something you want to play on GP. Paying $20 for a month of GP to play the next Gears or Doom isn’t unreasonable. My issue is having it months on end as I’m not someone who plays COD.

Capitalism itself is unsustainable. It operates off of the idea of infinite economic growth. That isn't possible. Investors will only invest if they think the company will grow. What happens when your company is on top and at its peak? The crash.

I completely agree, although with someone like me who has an awful/poor runningPCc,Game Passs and cloud gaminghaves been good to me. Since I'm not exactly "Running" games through my GPU/CPU (since I have integrated graphics) its been allowing me to play big title games that require NASA PCs to run. Step 1: Use the most used pc OS that you own to promote your gaming library Step 2: buy out game publishers to feed your game library Now you have a netflix gaming monopoly and can raise prices for infinite products Not a lot of steps when you already had the resources and billions of dollars to make it happen

The raise in sub cost has to do with the lack of GP growth. They need 3-4x the number of subs they have by the end of the generation and the only increase in subs they got since January 2022 was when they converted gold members to GP Core members.

@Akrymir6 ай бұрын
@@jsc315 Long term GP is very unsustainable, but it's faltering way before it even hits the wall. As membership numbers eventually peak the only way to continue growth is to increase sub prices and reduce overhead (investment into 1st party development). Eventually you hit a point where you can't charge customers more or spend any less on development. By that time the only growth is by inflation and increases in population... which isn't nearly enough to satisfy shareholders.

A game being day one on gamepass usually means their death. As this cuts into their revenue, meaning not everyone is purchasing their game and I do believe that is why many xbox studios were shut down.
@EarlHare6 ай бұрын
The discounts aren't a bad idea imo, they just don't cut deep enough. using gamepass to play new games is great, and if by the time a game is leaving the service and you are still playing it and enjoying it then the discount is there. At that point most players would be happy to shell out a couple extra bucks knowing that it would better support the devs.
@timothycurrier60296 ай бұрын
So, they added a lesser pass that's cheaper than what we have but won't include day one titles, down 2 dollars from $17 to $15. Then they boosted the price of the subscription that does have day one titles. Then, here in America, a 3 dollar increase to The Game Pass Ultimate that includes new releases, from $17 to $20. I'm not fretting the price hike too much, but I do think it's lame to bundle all "Day One" releases together like that, because this price hike is obviously because of Call of Duty releasing - a game I have no interest in. Now I have to pay more to get Day One games like Persona 3. I wonder what the schedule for retiring games from the "Day One" list will look like? If downgrading my sub gets me those games like 6 months later, then it's not a bad deal for me to pay less if I can still experience the same games patiently. I've never been a "Grab it Day One" kind of gamer, with few exceptions.

Quick correction. Gamepass ultimate was $14.99 plus taxes would make it charge around $16/$17. They actually made it a $5 increase cause that $19.99 is still without the tax which will probly make it $22/$24 with tax.
@timothycurrier60296 ай бұрын
@@6321magic As a current subscriber here in the USA, the current subscription price of Game Pass Ultimate is $16.99, which is the $17 I'm referencing, before taxes. I believe Game Pass started at $14.99, but there was a price hike a while back and anyone that didn't initially load up years of Game Pass Ultimate at $14.99 has been paying $16.99 for a while. Just trying to be clear, these numbers are all before taxes. Edit: It's worth noting that I got a message today stating that even my auto-redeeming Microsoft reward for game pass is changing, so it seems like redeeming points for Game Pass Ultimate is going to get more difficult too. They literally discontinued my auto-redeeming reward selection today.
