She nailed all of the melismas in this song. Even the one at 2:31. In fact, the run was very fast and hit every note. Anyone who claims she didn’t hit them correctly have questionable ear for music or questionable conscience (because they know they’re lying). Seriously, anyone, tell me which part she got wrong? And those who take this opportunity to say that melismas are not her strength, gurl, she sang Lead the Way live perfectly, something Mariah has never done live. I have heard her lower the key, avoid the high notes, do away with the sustained belts, squeak in between notes, and belt with rough edges. And all these are evident in her Tokyo Dome performance DURING her PRIME of this song. The charlatan stans of course will deny. That live perf was a far cry from the studio version: clarity is key.

Regine's belted notes, including the sustained notes, had more freedom, resonance, power, and flexibility. Mariah's voice sounded dry and tentative, not to menton dull, and of course it was lowered a semitione. And that was Mariah in her prime, regine @ 40. This is not about who sang higher. Regine sang it higher but still delivered the notes better than the one who lowered the key.
