How to assume correctly: 1. Start with your assumption based on current and available info. 2. investigate your assumption and collect more information to either confirm or reject assumption. 3. test your assumption against additional information gathered. 4. A.confirmed assumption: proceed. B. rejected assumption: redirect efforts. salute brother.

I can agree with getting thermostats for the Pentastar from the dealership. Replaced mine with one from Autozone and less than 8 months/20k miles later it left me stranded in the middle of nowhere Canada on a drive up to Alaska. Junk part failed stuck closed. Luckily I noticed it and resolved it immediately with no damage to the engine. Great videos Alex!

Hey Good Morning Alex, I'm writing from Bayonne NJ, and I would like to thank you for everything you do to educate us on the good old Pinastar. My 2014 dodge durango was leaking oil and I took it to a mechanic and they told me wrong information about it. They told me that my valve gaskets were leaking and I needed all new ones. Long story short, I watched your videos on the durangos and found my problem, it wasn't my gaskets, it was my good old oil cooler. So I almost got charged $1400 for a job that I did myself, for only $300. Thank you again, and keep up the excellent work. Signed: Jesse

I always replace the drier with a compressor replacement. According to auto parts store they will not honor warranty on compressor if drier wasn’t replaced. Dealerships are the worse, Toyota quoted me $1400 to replace starter on my 5.7. I did it myself for $158.00.

Thanks for taking us along on the day's work. As an old timey tech/mechanic viewing your work, not that my opinion counts for much anymore, I believe you to be a quality tech/mechanic and do great work. If I lived in your area I'd ask you to service my vehicle. That's the highest compliment I can give you. Most of the work on my vehicle I'm either unqualified or unable to do anymore (I'm old remember 😆). Thanks for a great video, Alex.

Alex love you guys. On that crown Vic when I was working as a Mechanic at my favorite shop to work at we had a lot of neighborhood cars we did points even had an old 4 cyl 50’s GM I’m doing an oil change and looking for the oil filter I finally gave up had to call one of the old timers over and I ask him where is the damn filter. Didn’t have one was a factory option and they didn’t get it 🤯anyways we had an old 70’s era mopar 8 cyl don’t remember the engine but it had a dead cyl they plugged it and tuned the carb and it purred like a kitten I was working at this shop in 1997. I was 20 back then 46 now, never stopped working on cars. Just don’t do it for a living anymore. The fuel injection is the issue with the Vic but with tuning software it’s a possibility. Love the channel and content.

i have been a mechanic most of my life and worked by myself as well.most shops you go in have masssave tool boxes against the wall. i do mine different the normal everyday tools are in a fairly large box. i roll the box next to the vehicle i am working on. when i lay down a 13mm wrench i lay it down in the drawer where it goes only 1 step away when i need the 13 mm wrench again don't have to look i know its in the box where it goes. have another box with less used tools usually leave it alone then i have shelves on the wall for seldom used tools save me a lot of time. i see the tool carts and see u tubers digging thru the cart looking for a wrench i never have to look just a thought

If theres any metal in an ac system, its best to replace everything. Compressor, condenser, drier or expansion valve, lines etc. Whatever the system has. You'll never get all the metal out, as you've said, and itll just destroy the system again. Always better to be safe than sorry, especially with an expensive system like AC. And, you don't get a warranty unless you replace most components. Done all of this many times.

For your thoughts on the resealing head gasket, I am intrigued. I’ve had plenty of water pumps that leak much more when they’re off after running. The seal expands from the heat and will seal much better, but not perfectly, than when it’s off it. Then it cools down cuz the vehicle is off and the gasket contracts and the coolant leak is much worse. Wouldn’t it be the same case for the head gasket. Heat will expand it and possibly seal better and then contract and possibly let some fumes out when it is off. I wonder if that was the case if the block tester would work with it off if that is when the fumes are coming through. Could it just be extremely carboned up and mixing with the oil or you’re definitely smelling it in the coolant. Hope there’s an update, cuz I’m definitely intrigued.

I love the show however charging twice for diag wouldn't fly in the uk customers expect to tell you there's a fault and you hopefully tell them what's at fault If you check the car and say we'll I think it's a mech issue and also there is another elec issue but we will have to charge you twice for diagnosing 2 seperate faults in the uk you would go quickly out of buisness and nobody would deal with that shop not been rude just the facts I work on cars all the time and it's always the same situation either it's dealership or side garage but to say things like estimate time or deadline no way I am paying you to check for a faukt and you say well I will charge you 1 hours fee and that's all you get if you can find it in that time great but if you csnt we'll I get to charge you more to me that's dodgy I have a friend who lives in the state and he has also said alot of placed will charge to find the faukt regardless of time it's not the customers responsibility if the company cannot hire good enough mechanical guys to fault find methodical or the correct way any no way your gonna get the customer to pay twice as much for your lack of ability to find those faults

Wt i mean in the uk we charge a fixed pice for diag if its 2 or 3 faults n then if you get the job to fix the labour rate is little less so u get the reapir as well none of this elec fault find or mech fault find its just fault find it all pal @AlexTheCarDoctor
@AlexTheCarDoctor
@AlexTheCarDoctor Ай бұрын
@@gregcressey1791 oh I understand what you mean. Sorry I misunderstood. But electrical diagnostics can be time consuming, taking hours sometimes to trace down wires etc. A flat fee won’t cover that time. In this industry, in the US, time is everything if you want to be efficient. Now, if it’s a simple diagnostic, maybe 2 or 3 check engine light codes. Then I charge a flat fee and it covers up to an hour. I hope that makes sense lol
