Dude, you just dont see that. Its so rare. Mad props my dude. Ive been a Toronado lover for most of my life, and this is awesome. Especially the camera on the dash board! Very cool man! Keep being original!

You may already be aware of this, but the GMC Motorhome used the same drivetrain as the Toronado. There is a aftermarket LSD that is available for the Motorhome and is supposedly compatible with the Toronado. It might help your traction.

This car is meant to be more of a personal luxury cruiser, not a drag racer

Had a 70 Toro same color, but it was a W 34...AKA the Toro GT, 400hp and 500tq . Man I miss that one. Never put it on the strip, but I believe it would be 15s on the get go, and probably get into 14s relatively easy.
@Redline19862 жыл бұрын
That is awesome! I think mine would have done that too, but my secondaries weren't opening, so it was like I was just running a two barrel carburetor

I'd do a built carb, custom cam and kit, some ignition work and exhaust. Bet there's a 13 in there somewhere. A good convertor should really wake it up.

Looks like having a passenger aided in traction 😂. Also looks like you had tons of fun!
@Redline19863 жыл бұрын
Indeed it did, ill be back with new rear shocks and drag radials to get more traction!

Back end squatting hard off the line. Lots of weight transfer. At 2X playback speed it looks massive. Maybe rear shocks could slow the weight transfer lessening wheel spin. Got to be the only Toronado race clip on KZbin. I have to say I am jealous. Drove there and back I presume.
@Redline19863 жыл бұрын
I believe it is the only clip, I searched for a while and came up with nothing. I will be putting some heavy duty shocks in the rear to help, I blew my passenger one on the first pass, so that had quite an effect on it.

Get that qjet redone, timing reset should have that big beast in the low 15s maybe high 14s, id put a pair of Mickey Thompson ET Street Drags on front, definitely making progress 16.14 not bad for a 4400 lbs plus big girl not in tune yet.

2:45 i don't get it, why did they made you start anyway if the other guy started before green? Edit: Oh nevermind dumb guestion from a non racing guy, from other races i can see the two starting lights are not always in sync
@Redline19863 жыл бұрын
It's called bracket racing, it helps keep the race even between fast and slow cars, its a lot of fun for everyone, no matter what you bring to the track!

You're not getting much off the line. That is a 425 - A 425! Does not sound like your secondaries opened. Try adjusting the timing and fixing the carb linkage. My 66 Toro takes off like a raped goat, sencondaries gulping air.

Yeah my quadrajet needs a rebuild and my distributor was not advancing correctly

Nice video. Cant wait to take my 68 Toro to my drag strip. Id be interested to see the difference in the 66 425 and planetary diff vs the 68 455
@jackdale98312 жыл бұрын
All other stuff equal, the '66 425 was a 100 lbs heavier than your '68 455, which might have a smidge more HP. Some 455s had rated 400Hp, so it'll be from 1/10 - 1.0 sec, quicker than the '66. The 425 was on the tail-end of casting tech, which allowed GM to make the '68s on up bigger, lighter, and make more HP. Was that blue Gremlin running a 401?

there's always gonna be two camps of car owners: ones who baby their vehicle and treat it like it's a museum piece, and ones who actually take their vehicles out to do what they're meant to do: be driven but there's also a third camp who will try to do things like see if they can get under 10 mins at the nurburgring lol. I'm totally in this camp and it's great that someone is letting this thing roar. Always thought it was odd that such a huge V8 was given front wheel drive, I've always been told that fwd can only really handle 300 hp effectively, any more and it's wasted power due to the weight transfer, or crazy torque steer.
