'Jowey Mirella' was my all-star of the year last year. It produced flowers absolutely nonstop and they held so well. Did really well in a vase too.

Yay! So good to know. It was truly difficult to narrow down my varieties this year. I lost SO many amazing ones- the Penhill, Labrynth, too many to count. I feel confident with this quantity .....today....😂

I grew my first ever Dahlias from seed about 6 years ago, and OMG. I have never had as much success from tubers or cuttings since. They were crazy....Not one was under 4ft tall and 3ft wide. The tubers they produced from seed astounded me. Unfortunately I was new to growing and had to lift them for winter as I have heavy clay and Dahlias do NOT like staying wet through winter as I am sure you know. I had no experience of how to keep them and my tubers didnt make it through storage....totally my fault. But this year I am sowing seeds again and can not wait to see what pops up.....sooooo excited.

I wish this year will be better and you can enjoy all the blooms. Some gardeners dont like flowers you need to dig out in winter, they think it is to much care, in case of dahlias I think it is still worth it. It blooms for me till first frost. This year many of my tubers dont get to bloom just because of snails they ate lots of leaves and the plants just dont catch up. I dig up all the tubers and hope they have enough energy for next years show.

I'm looking forward to seeing your dahlias grow, best of luck!! 😊 I planted dahlias for the first time last year (unfortunately only in containers, I live in a flat) and didn't have much luck either, but I think I know what I did wrong, so I only bought a couple this year and I'm still hoping the ones that bloomed last year will come back again (not sure, I'm in a zone ~9b/10a but we had a rare hard and snowy winter). I almost bought a huge dahlia plant in full bloom at the nursery today too, but I didn't. (I might go and get it though!! 😅) It's also interesting to learn about prices in other countries. Here you can find tubers at local nurseries for 2-5€ and the full grown plant was 6€. Cheers all the way from Greece!!

Last year, Sow True Seed offered "zodiac" seeds and just for fun, I ordered my sign, Taurus, and they happen to be mixed single dahlias. I didn't plant them last year for lack of space and it's a good thing because my garden last year was a disaster (late cold wet spring, NO availability of any plants, complete lockdown so no community garden, knee/hip injury, moved to a new house). You are so funny! Can't wait to see and will pray that your tubers are disease free this year. 😇 Say, does the soil need to be treated before planting again or will you pick another area for the new crop?

Thanks! Yes, the soil needs to be treated before planting. I will be moving my dahlias as well.
