Awesome. I really want one but im afraid to get one and have problems 😕. Test drove one the other day and I was very impressed with it. it's just hard to let go of I.C.E. I guess I'm more afraid of long term ownership .

Also what has your experience been with the warranty if any. I feel like a lot of people don't talk about that.

@@jcrjr383 only warranty repair was for a master window switch which was an F150 issue overall (all types). Other than that very low mainteance (wiper fluid, tires at 40K miles)

One thing I remember for sure about my Silverado was just how comfortable it was. No frills (it was as base as you can get without having steelies basically), just simple, easy, comfortable. I just don't really miss the full size truck life. I feel bad enough driving around in an R1T tbh lol

At 5:52, the 20 amp outlets are connected to the 30 amps circuit for the 240, so you can draw 30 amps out of each pair of 20 amp outlets. So you could have a 15 amp space heater plugged into each of the 120 volt outlets and they'd all run. The only downside to using the generator outlet for backing up your house is Pro Power Onboard has the neutral and ground bonded, so the GFCI will trip with your house's neutral and ground bonded. So you either need a neutral switching transfer switch, or you need to do a bit of a hack to get it to work.

I really like the lighting, it’s just much bigger than anything I’d need. I love that the base trim is so functional.

We roadtrip my standard range quite a bit. Probably helps to have a smaller battery but most of the time we're ready about the same time as the truck. It's my favorite roadtripper that I've had so far simply because it's so quiet, so comfortable. It just eats highway miles.

I appreciate your reviews. I have had 3 Tesla Model Y’s, good cars but the build quality except for the last one was not pleasant with rattles and other issues (drivetrain and software were great along with efficiency). The initial 2 were so bad with rattles and build issues I sold them after trying to get them fixed multiple times by Tesla (they did their best) they remained unresolved I switched since we camp, outdoor adventures, do projects and other things making a Ford Lightning Platinum (2022) of great use. It was rattle free and solid with no issues. Driving was far more comfortable to that of the Tesla. Software was ok but not great, wireless CarPlay worked wonders. Charging was never an issue. My neighbors large oak who we kept asking to remove as it was rotting and dangerous fell on the Ford Lightning and home. Now I have a Rivian R1S 2025 base model and have been very happy. It is utilitarian, more efficient than the Lightning and drives better. I also way prefer it over the Tesla (no rattles) and great driving/software. I hope this helps.

I debated between the XLT ER and the Lariat. I got the Lariat, mostly for the ventilated seats (I live in AZ). After 21 months, I could live without the glass roof, but I’m really fond of PAAK. BlueCruise is nice, but unless they roll out the new versions to earlier trucks, I will not be paying a subscription for it when my 3 years is up. I like the big screen, but I’d have to try the small one before deciding if it’s important. For me, the only thing missing from the new Flash trims is the ventilated seats.

The fold down console shifter is dumb. Good call on the column shifter suggestion - would be nice if that was an option.
@rusticroads
@rusticroads 7 күн бұрын
The Lightning is a better EV truck than anyone could have expected. It rides better than most cars, it has a better instrument cluster than the Mach-E, and it does real truck things. The shifter is much like in gas F-150s, so the mechanism and surrounding pieces are shared, which makes for economy of scale and for ease of transition for F-150 drivers. Same goes with accessories, such as bed liners, tonneau covers, etc. -- all F-150 legacy fitment. The nags you were getting are likely better with more current software versions. I drove two Mach-Es back-to-back, and one had older software and one newer. The older version was much naggier with keeping your eyes on the road. The BlueCruise features were also much better. The lack of charging speed is a bummer, but once again, more recent software has it and other features as well. That's the primary issue right now with the Lightning and the Mach-E; the most recent software features need to be available to everyone, but for some reason, there are delays in making that happen. As with all software from car companies, etc.: they'll get it sorted. The biggest issue I have with the F-150 is also its biggest advantage. It's a full-sized truck, on par with the gas-powered F-150s that are everywhere. It's so much more vehicle than most people need, and it's huge! Many garages can't even fit such a large vehicle in them. Get the Lightning if you need a truck. If you don't need a truck, it's hard to say that getting one would be wise (even if it's one of the best EVs I've ever driven).

I wish it wasnt so expensive. I'm probably in the market for a model Y whenever the next generation comes around, but would strongly consider the lightning if the price was close enough. I miss having a truck sometimes, the lightning really checks a lot of boxes

I had an early Cybertruck reservation (Nov 2019), an early Rivian R1T Max (April 2019) but ended up getting a Ford Lightning Lariat. I was torn between the Rivian and the Lightning. The Mega Frunk and much larger back seat tipped me in favor of the Lightning. And I am very glad I got the Lightning. I use the Frunk a lot, including the outlets, and the backseat storage is awesome. Is the Lightning perfect? No, but the frunk, smooth, quick ride, generous storage, power outlets front and rear, plus Apple Carplay & Protrailer leave me not wanting anything except maybe faster DC charging. If the next Gen Lightning can do 250 Kwh when charging, buyers should not want another truck.

We need to get you into a Lariat to try it out and compare. I 100% agree about the cloth seats. The Pro has better seats than the XLT in my opinion. Looks like the Flash will get Leather next year, so I'm not really sure overall what the difference between the Flash and Lariat will be beside the glass roof. As for getting one, I'd suggest you look at a used 2022 Lariat ER. I bet you could find a lowish mileage one and get a great deal on it. The 2022 has better software than the 2023, though none of its great software. As for charging, I agree, it should be much faster charging. But with the way the curve work, it just makes sense to charge to 80% before moving. You charge faster at higher SOC, so there is no advantage to plug in at 0%.

I have this exact truck (22 XLT ER), its a dream. my 2 things Ford screwed up: 1- need a single-button toggle for one-pedal drive mode. Right on the gear shift like, among others, the Bolt. It's a digital switch 2-screens and a scroll deep on the screen, which is so dumb. 2 - that lid in the Frunk for the 'cooler' storage needs to be hinged. with any weight on it, it becomes a total disaster. If you have 3-bags loaded, but forgot you need to get a tie-strap you keep in that compartment - you can't muscle it up and get the strap. It WILL come out/off the frame and you can't get it back seated properly so its just a shambles of misaligned cover under the weight of your bags. if it was hinged, you could muscle it up, grab the strap, let it close (the hinge could easily be detachable if removing it was so important). Other than that, A++ EV.

I might also re-arrange the tie-down spots in the bed, but that's preference, not clear error in design.

@@brandenflasch My wife drives the truck everyday to work. she's not a 1-pedal driver (nor is my daughter). Also, not sure how you did with it, but parking that beast at the grocery store in 1-pedal is a whole different ballgame than a nice little Bolt or something else small.

@@brandenflasch i feel both ways about it. great driving alone. but tougher to park and i recognize its harder on a passenger. and my wife is a hard no. which is why it strikes me as odd that Ford buries it on a 'setting' menu. its the defining feature of the entire EV experience, and other EVs have it as a simple dashboard switch. seems like a no brainer. anyway, hope you enjoyed the lightning!

Man i want to get one but im on the fence about it..its kinda scary to make the transition to an electric vehicle. But i hear a lot of good things about it. My concern is the long term ownership I.E battery and how expensive it will be after warranty is out. Like if it needs to get a repair of sorts.
