This is so much better than any other review out on this now because you actually know what you're talking about eith electric vehicles, dont mix up kw and kwh like almost every other journalist 🙄 and go in depth with how the battery and chassis work and go out on your own which no other journalist has done, thanks Kyle 👍

TFL has also did previous clips with Rivian Truck and towing a trailer on a journey +some other fresh tests with the GMC Hummer ev Throtle House boys also took both Rivian R1T & GMC Hummer EV performing a drag along with a Tesla X.. Ohh and BTW i'm European, i really love every review about EV's.. imo both these trucks would be so welcome and useful over here since we don't really travel such long distances to visit relatives or to reach cool destinations..

The battery confidence comes from how much R&D was spent on the originally Chevy Volt. They put in a pack that was restricted to 20-80% but it looked like 0-100 for you. That's why many original Chevy Volt owners have seen almost no degradation in their battery pack health. So already the battery pack is super conservative in terms of staying healthy, but then they also have software that slowly expands the capacity as any loss happens, allegedly. Lots of reddit discussions on this. Obviously different chemistry now, but the Volt work was no joke from an engineering stand point.

Expanding the usable battery capacity as the battery ages seems like it would only accelerate wear on an already aging pack.

The hummer EVs 51/43 mpge (city/highway) make it less efficient than all Toyota Hybrid Sedans. Insane how power hungry the Hummer EV is.

Yes, the Rivian is over the top, the Hummer makes no sense at all. Its like the Lamborghini LM1 Cheetah. Built for the sons of the Saudi Scheichs.

Good value relative to the market for EV Trucks and in terms of current resale value. Not a good value for a vehicle that can get you to your destination.

In my area Electrify America charges 43 cents/KWh, unless you pay a $4 monthly fee, in which case it’s 31 cents/KWh. At 1.2 miles/KWh for the Hummer and 43 cents/KWh, that’s 35.8 cents/mile. At 31 cents/KWh, that’s 25 cents/mile.

I wish more auto makers would incorporate the steering wheel paddles for on-demand regen control. Especially the trucks. My current EV has them and i use them constantly.

@@asimo3089 I came from sports cars & manual transmissions. This is another level of control over the car; the ability to change on the fly. Similar to a manual vs automatic discussion. It brings an engaging dynamic. In an e-truck, this would be useful when towing/hauling in the mountains. My current EV may be a family car, but in the mountains I drive with purpose, using the paddles to exploit its potential. It has a "set it and forget it" mode as well.

I'm guessing steering characteristics would improve with higher psi.. It's heavier than my 1 ton and I keep 70 psi in my tires. 44 psi steering would be very sloppy.

I’m obviously not the target market for this vehicle, but I have to say that is the ugliest and least practical interior I have ever seen. Plus how absurd to have such a giant vehicle but still have no room for a spare without taking up the tiny bed nor a usable front trunk since it is filled with cases for those gimmicky roof windows. Typical GM-focus on glitz and childish macho styling details and ignore vehicle dynamics, efficiency and usability and value. I think the Ford F-150 EV will crush this thing in popularity. But if you like it, that’s cool.

How about one that doesn't charge triple the cost of electriity? Electrify America charges 48 cents per kwh, my home rate is 14 cents. Why? Cuz you have no choice when traveling.

@@DblOSmith I'm a Union Electrician and people ask me 'Chris, how many kw's should my next[ genset be and i say do you need hvac, hot water and a dryer? If so, 12KW. I do without these during an outage, so my 1998 4kw Generac is fine, my load runs about 2500 watts. An EV can supply 2 kwh for 36-48 hrs, but then your EV will be drained with no way to recharge. I hope this helps.

Is the tax credit phase out at the Manufacturer or sub-brand level. This is not a Chevy so even though that brand is capped, it’s not clear to me if that is extended to the Lyric and Hummer which are clearly (or not so clearly) Chevys. Thoughts or clarifications?

My God, 1 mile per KWh. That thing really is a Hummer. To put this in to perspective on my commute home today on 128 and the 3 near Boston my Tesla was getting 5 miles per KWh. Unless you are planning on invading a Middle Eastern country why would you want a Hummer?

Oh wow I never thought about this but you mentioned the weight of this truck around 10,000 lbs and then I saw the neighborhood bridge sign that said weight limit 3 tons. Now I have to worry about the electric vehicle I buy to make sure I can get home hehehe

These giant electric SUVs/trucks will really dampen some peoples' spirits when they realize that even 250 KW charging sucks when you only get 1 mile per KWh. Smaller/more aerodynamic cars will have to charge 1/3 as long!

31:00 re "inefficient not cool etc..." Yes, the Hummer EV is still a shit vehicle for people with small penises. Just because it's an EV doesn't mean weighing 9000 lbs is acceptable. Not only is it horribly energy inefficient but it also damages the road more than much lighter vehicles. And it's fuck ugly to boot. I'll take my Model 3 any day...

My thing is… if I’m in the market for an electric big off-roader pickup, I’m not thinking about the Rivian. And vice versa if I was looking for a regular sized vehicle. If I buy a Hummer, I know it’s not as efficient. That’s not what I’m buying it for if I was a Hummer customer. (I’m a Hummer future customer)💀

Kind of messed up that you down the chevrolet from the start. If you want to cater to the soy boy fluid gender crowd that is fine. But don't fuck chevrolet over. I'm talking from a swedish perspective. I guess we love the american styling and way because we see it as one of a kind. The rivian looks just like another apple product (wich is also american i know). But ford and chevrolet have a great automotive presence. Don't screw it up.

I'll probably get flamed for this but who is GM targeting in hopes to sell this thing? If the whole purpose of switching to EVs is to lessen our reliance on fossil fuels and reduce emissions, then wouldn't it be more beneficial to sell more cost and energy efficient vehicles? Maybe not resurrect a relic that nobody wanted before? 1ish mile per kWh is awful. EVs maximize their efficiency when the design reduces drag as much as possible. "Least efficient electric vehicle ever made". Yeah no kidding. I can't wait to see one in public and have the owner tell me how they're "helping" the environment.

I would like too see that you didn’t use the first 10 min compering the two trucks. Very very few will be in a situation where they wonder who to buy. When you got a few hours with it then do all the time with that one. The Rivian you have talked in and out about for a long time now. The Hummer customer doesn’t care about the toy Rivian.

As much as I love the Rivian and want it to come to Germany I cannot see me in this beast. It fits the US I guess but only there. Super unefficient, extra large - somehow not fitting the times we are currently in. But yes, way better than the other Hummers...

It's gets over 40mpge Though. 1.3miles per kwh at hwy speeds for the hummev with 33.7kwhs per gallon of gas, more for a gallon of diesel. Ain't nothing this size with this much power that a combustion engined vehicle can get even 1/3rd that efficiency. The ram trx with 300 less hp, weighing 2400 less pounds. And slower 0-60mph gets 7-10mpg hwy per car and driver on premium gas. 😀

So the Rivian is smaller, a TON lighter, but holds just as much stuff, can do as much off road, is just about as fast, consumes way less juice and costs less. But the Hummer has t-tops and WTF mode. Way to go GM.

It's an over-the-top vehicle not meant to be directly compared to the Rivian. The EV Silverado AND EV Sierra will be.

Looks good! But from a company that closed its plant in Dayton, OH and reason given by the GENIUS CEO was higher gas prices and plummeting vehicle sales? No shit! They knew then, mate. And kept on building gas guzzlers. Wonder if GM would make anything electric if it wasn’t for Tesla. Maybe I know nothing. And GM and Ford have been working on EV for a very, very long time and were just waiting for the perfect opportunity to broadcast they are going all Electric in near future. 1) Never (EVER) put the Hummer EV into "Safe Mode", unless you want it not to shift to drive. 2) If your car's ECM gets locked up (let's say you do go into "Safe Mode"), the Hummer EV's front hood is latched electronically. So, you will struggle getting it open to reset the 12V battery. There is a cable hidden in the driver's foot well on the left side that can be used to open the front hood under such situations. Another KZbinr found this out the hard way. 😆

Kyle - The Hummer is running Android Automotive. Same system as the Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 Recharge. You can see all the Google apps, Google Play Store, and Google Assistant apps on the screen. Google allows automakers to put their own skin on the user interface, but cars that build in the Google Automotive Services get the Google apps pre-installed. 🙂

You can always tell the reviewers that hate that they like the Hummer EV. Lots of issues/problems this guy found about this truck that aren’t actually issues or problems AT ALL. Review came across kinda nit-picky to me, and almost awkward. I think you need more time with a brand new vehicle learning how everything works before commenting on how technology doesn’t work well.

Yeah, and you can't even get on the list to buy one until June '24. So...this is essentially a GMC stock sales gimmick. Your video is high quality, the vehicle availability from a corporate leviathan like GMC is not.

My Tesla MX preconditions the battery every morning Mon-Fri around 6AM. It only takes a few minutes. The schedule is configurable in the app if my routine ever changes.

Sorry Kyle no EV is kind to the environment. On top of that is the fact that 1/3 of all oil production is used to make the plastic parts of all vehicles and everything plastic in the US. Kyle why don't you do a KZbin on the problem of trying to get an EV serviced?
