The loudest and quietest jeep of all time, comming out at the same time, its a very interesting decision. Haha! You have v8 on one hand, and flippin plug in hybrid EV on the other hand. CRAZY!
@sackman1886
@sackman1886 3 жыл бұрын
I think 21 miles in EV mode is fairly impressive when you consider someone buying this as their daily driver and weekend toy probably commutes under 20 miles each way to and from work during the week. I would save a fortune on gas switching to this (not including the additional electricity cost at the house, but still).

They should get one, as Roman seems like a real skeptic and I don’t think understands the vehicle. If they lived with the 4xe and a level 2 charger (which they already have) for a month or two, I bet his perspective would change.

When you have some cash to spare, put a 4 inch lift on it and get some 35 inch or even 37 inch Nitto Grappler Tires (the EXO Grappler OR the Ridge Grappler) for your offroading needs. If your skid plates ever get bent or "ripped", there are other aftermarket boron steel or even TITANIUM skid plates you can put underneath to get even better bottom coverage. In terms of extra gear, ALWAYS buy TWO extra 20 Gallon Jerry Cans you fix to the back of the Jeep for more fuel range AND I would suggest buying FOUR Go-Pro cameras with at least two 4 Gigabyte SSD external hard disk drives so you can RECORD 4K resolution 60 fps video from the front, back and sides of all your off-road adventures. The Go-Pro camera setup is ALSO used for grabbing that MILLION DOLLAR SET OF CRYSTAL CLEAR PHOTOS of a family of Sasquatches (i.e. Bigfoot) looking with envy at your cool new Jeep! oh! I would also put a heavy duty WINCH and Bush Bars on the front of the Jeep in case you get stuck in a deep ditch or rut! v

See my responses to some of the other posts. It’s not going to be Prius level PHEV efficient, that is just impossible for a rolling brick. But I am getting a lot better gas mileage than the standard ICE Wrangler for short to mid range driving. My 60 mile commute I average 26 to 27 mpg, much higher when just tooling around town. Much less of a benefit at 100 miles or more between charges, but also great not having range anxiety as can always extend range by just adding gas.

While I'm not able to move from my 18 sport at the moment, once this technology matures more and the range is inevitably increased, I will be strongly considering one. My hopes is they are able to reach a minimum of 100 miles all electric and keep the hybrid configuration.

@@Cody-gr2kc it's a,pretty intensely integrated system. It doesn't have a torque converter which is bananas. There are some really cool videos about the break down but wild none the less. I love my jeep but if jeep would take the cargo area and maybe eat into the floor back there as well, load it up with batteries and get that range up some more. That immediate heat due to the heater running off of electricity instead of the circulated coolant will be amazing in the winter. Pretty amazing time to be alive for technology.

Once manufacturers switch over to Aluminum-Air batteries that are safer and much higher power (i.e. 4x up to 8x more charge than Li-Ion) the range problems will go away. A higher end Aluminum-Air battery taking up the entire front end where the gas engine goes now and some space within a "skateboard" frame-rail assembly of a Jeep Rubicon level Wrangler, should allow it to go AT LEAST 1600 km (1000 miles!). In about 5-to-7 years when newer formulations of the Aluminum-Air batteries start being tested in public, I expect the range to get into the 2500 km (1500 miles!) range on one charge! v

The water wasn’t deep enough. The rocks and crawling was nice. But how about driving in desert sands?? Most Jeep’s get stuck unless they have the lift and way larger tires they can run at lower pressure on bead lock wheels?? Now let’s talk aftermarket mods. My guess is this jeep was made for city people who want the look with some options. If it was me I’ll take a regular gas or diesel wrangler and mod it for I need. My final thoughts are: this won’t sell well if you can’t mod it for REAL off-road driving. On that note I look forward to seeing you guys test it in the real world.

Why don’t you think this is useful? I’m getting 26 to 27 mpg on my 60 mile commute. Pretty good for a brick on wheels. That is for a Rubicon 4xe with steel bumper group in 4h-auto. I get even better mileage outside of my commute because most of my driving outside of weekend trips is within 30 miles of home. I also have 375hp and 470lb of torque at my disposal (even when the battery is ‘depleted’ because it keeps 15% in reserve and does regenerative braking and charge from the engine when it’s running to feed the battery). I think it’s a very useful vehicle for anyone who’s average daily trip between charges is 100 miles or less. Over that the diesel might be a better choice.

to feel closer to the outdoors and it's quieter + electric torque is immediate
@lmt9856
@lmt9856 3 жыл бұрын
@@oogleboogle123456789 how much closer do you want to be when 4 wheeling? More torque is accomplished by low gears. If a first generation Toyota can do the rubicon then others should too. This is just a reason for non outdoor people to go outdoors try things they should try. Also contesting the trailhead with charge wait times. I don't see the point?

@@lmt9856 well when in nature the closer the better its the whole point right? and im sure a great deal of vehicles out there have does that mean we're done adding new stuff to them? and yes charge times would be bad but like all new things it can be improved

Assuming it has a smaller gas tank does it actually have worse range than a gas Jeep or will the electric side of it help carry it farther?

How long will the batteries last though? And how many thousands of dollars will it be to replace them? One of the biggest reasons I wouldn't purchase an electric vehicle is the maintenance costs for long term. Sure if only plan on owning for a couple of years I might consider one, seems like would be an interesting experience. But I don't own anything battery operated that works as good as it did when it was new, including my phone I'm using to write this comment.

As I watched the Jeep going down the steep rock face, I can't help but wonder if there's any "engine braking" type of feature on these? With electric, I'm thinking you have to rely totally on brakes. Do you know what if it has anything like that?

regenerative breaking uses the motors magnets to slow down the car but it also produces electricity so you get a bit of range back.

I see everyone complaining about the 21 mile range, but isn't a big benefit of this hybrid better power and faster acceleration? That, combined with the tax credits make it seem pretty good to me.

When using e-save charging do the mpg’s take a hit for the gas engine. I’m guessing it would because I would think that there is extra load on the gas engine.
@davidcarrico3385
@davidcarrico3385 3 жыл бұрын
Short answer is yes, that is the least efficient way to run. For most cases it’s better to run it at its default which is hybrid, but if you do run it in eSave, the default of ‘battery save’ is more efficient than ‘battery charge’. Haven’t tested it enough to know how much of a hit ‘battery charge’ is though, but there is a hit.

Great first review, but could someone clarify please - Can you run in hybrid mode (gas and electric) after you've depleted the battery in 21 miles. How do you get the charge for the hybrid if the battery is depleted? Thanks.-
@davidcarrico3385
@davidcarrico3385 3 жыл бұрын
Short answer yes. When the meter says < 1%, the 4xe is still keeping 15% in reserve for a number of reasons, but one is so it can always have some electric assist at those times where it would be most helpful such as off the line. There is continuous recharge happening whenever the gas engine is on and through regenerative braking which is how it works to maintain that hidden 15%. What most people have been seeing at < 1% is no loss of apparent power and mpg between 21 and 26 depending on driving habits and city/highway mix (it will actually do it’s worst at highway).
This mother's baby is too unreliable.
