Was not expecting to be impressed, but I'm shocked by the Fisker Ocean's good looks. I've seen plenty of EV horrors online but the Ocean is very nicely proportioned. Everyone on Fisker's vehicle dynamics team should pay close attention to Kyle's commentary during the test drive, he provides the kind of feedback that technicians like to hear.

It’s certainly a good start, but they have to get rid of that distracting pattern roof; would drive me crazy on a road trip. Also the UI still seems too laggy for the price tag of this vehicle. Still waiting to hear what the peak charging rate is too.

Solar roof can be left out and make the order with black glass roof or normal roof. However, Fisker offers the shade to the Solar roof, which makes it something like 10% less efficient. On normal condition without the shade, it generates energy from both sides of the glass, underneath also.

No, because I was getting sick just looking at them through a screen. If they plan to do solar, they should just follow in the Prius Prime's wheel tracks and do no glass roof for the interior, and commit to solar

Great review. Can't wait to get my Ocean One. 1. This car has all season tires, not performance tires on it. 2. Torque vectoring is not yet implemented, and will be later this year. This makes me hopeful that the driving characteristics will improve, to be similar to Acura SHAWD. 3. Infotainment is so-so. As long as it gets Carplay eventually, I don't mind. 4. I can't believe no one mentioned the taco trays. 5. Warranty is best in class. 6 year, 60,000 mile comprehensive. 10 year, 100,000 mile powertrain, and battery is warranted to 75% degradation, not 70% like Tesla and everyone else.

9:25 If you didn't point at and mention that the rear-view mirror was in back-up camera mode, I wouldn't know. I was thinking how come I couldn't see you and the back seats area in the rear view mirror until you mention that it was actually in back-up camera mode and that explains the super wide angle of the rear view too. It is amazing. I wish my Model X has this feature. This Fisker Ocean is lovely. I like looking at that wide-angle rear view right on the top and in the middle of windshield where it should be instead of the center screen of my Tesla. In my Tesla, if I need to do other tasks, I often have to manually remove the rear-views from the screen before I can switch and use other functions on the screen. Wish Tesla can copy this amazing feature. I also like the fact that it has even longer range than the long-range Model Y. My wife drives 80 miles between work and home each day. I may get this Ocean SUV for my wife instead of the Model Y. Solar roof, hooks on the back of the front seats and the rotating center screen, oh it is so awesome! My wife's BMW lease will be up by early 2024. Fisker Ocean ... looking amazing. Thank you for the video Kyle. I have watched several of your videos about different EVs and your trip experience. For an everyday driver vehicle, front wheel bias is actually perfect for us northern states when the roads get icy. It's not a huge deal, but my M3LR rear bias struggles a tiny bit when it's really slick, especially regen. Would be nice to have a snow mode that would make it more front bias or straight up 50/50, even if it means a slight loss of efficiency.

Totally agree, it's the reason I like my Bolt. FWD with snow tires saves expense of awd..and still need snows. RWD makes little sense for us in Minnesota. Considering the Fisker as well but more likely to go with Chevy Equiniox 10k-15K less expensive. 300+ miles 150kW charging, heat pump

I'm a res holder. Currently drive a phev with front wheel drive. This set up is. IMO, perfect for the 95 percent, especially in the Ocean Sport which will have the looks, ok range and...price. I, and most others, could care less about "getting the rear out a bit", especially with attendant range loss. This is a great looking vehicle and will be well priced and... likely built well. Bravo Fisker.
@johnnygeorgopoulos4072
@johnnygeorgopoulos4072 Жыл бұрын
Having a rear bias really doesn't have anything to do with kicking the proverbial azz out, it has to do with driving dynamics and the way vehicles handle, RWD cars typically handle and behave better than FWD or AWD(unless those AWD cars are rear biased, and why you see the likes of MB, BMW and others who have AWD cars out more and more percentage towards the rear with every step you take going though the drive modes). You don't want understeer, you want slight oversteer.

A lot of people are commenting that they don’t like the grid pattern as it moves around in the car. In normal driving that’s not going to move very much as people go straight down the road and it will only move as you turn. I like the concept I think it’s cool.

That skylight is a mess; it looks like a bad comprise between the skylight and solar panel folks. The pattern on the skylight is not attractive and really it should just be glass. The shadow on the dash and interior is distracting when moving. That charge port not closing without a just right touch is worrisome. Hope production is soon so we can take a second look. I know you're a dog lover (as am I) and one of the things that is unique about the Ocean is California Mode. The idea of letting my dogs ride in back and lowering the windows in the tailgate and the two small, rear windows is something no other SUV offers. Did you determine whether those windows can operate independently? All videos I've seen of California Mode have all seven windows (and sun roof) going down at the same time. When dogs back there, I'd like to be able to crack the back, rear two windows and the tailgate without opening all the way. In other words, are there seven buttons on the driver door for all seven windows? Love your videos and look forward to new content. Alison is great on the camera, so kudos to her as well.

@@mattbrew11 It might, but they said they are biracial panels which would make them less useful if you block the light coming in to bounce back at the panel. That kinda defeats the purpose of having that setup 8nbthe first place. I'd much rather just have an option of a solid solar roof or panoramic roof, or just more headroom if you picked neither.
@mattbrew11
@mattbrew11 2 жыл бұрын
@@Snerdles I own a very large solar business. The world’s best biFACIAL solar panels make ~ 26% more power, in a laboratory, under ideal conditions. In the real world we see a 5-7% gain. A solid roof with bifacial panels wouldn’t work. They need spacing to allow for refraction. Modern fixed glass roofs increase headroom.
@Snerdles
@Snerdles 2 жыл бұрын
@@mattbrew11 That's my point, they made it a terrible anti-human design to get a tiny amount of extra energy on an already tiny amount of energy that the roof solar would generate anyway. All at added expense for the sole purpose of virtue signalling rather than any appreciable performance. These panels are probably going to generate less than 2-3kwh a day, and that's only of the batteries aren't full already and in perfect sun. So the entire idea is just to save 30-50 cents a day. It's just terrible design.

@@Scrap-press because despite it being Fisker the thing is pushing forward. Look, I'm as skeptical as the next person of Fisker: the Karma debacle, the numerous concept cars with no production before this, the viability of their contract manufacturing business model, etc. But the car has gotten farther than we have all expected so far. The "Ocean is a scam" window is actually starting to close. So it's time to shift from "Hurrrr Fisker" and more into "let's critique the car as a product on the market"

Peak rate means nothing. 10%-80% is all that matters
@Necrotron
@Necrotron 2 жыл бұрын
@@mattbrew11 yes, I'm fully aware that it's better to have flatter rate than a sharp curve. Peak rate for 30 seconds doesn't mean anything against the rest of the charging curve. But since most manufacturers don't publish curve information usually, and it isn't until Kyle or Tom get their hands on them that we really see that, peak rate is the next best talking point.

It's funny you mention the front-wheel drive bias. Of course, personal anecdote - I live in Canada, and lacking an AWD option, I much prefer front wheel drive to deal with the snow. I have a reservation on the Ioniq5, and of course I had to shell out for top trim for the AWD option to deal with snow here. Otherwise, had it been FWD, I would have gone with a lower trim. But since it's RWD, I am definitely afraid of being stuck. Just one anecdote amongst any - if anything else, it proves how different vehicles are better for different areas. Excited about all new EVs regardless though.
@TechnicalLee
@TechnicalLee 2 жыл бұрын
In snow, FWD does better for stable handling, but RWD does better going up steep roads and driveways due to the weight shift on the rear axle. AWD is the best of both worlds.

@Skylancer727

Being front biased is for the same reason as why most consumer vehicles are front wheel drive, front wheel drive is safer. It's also far more efficient with conventional cars as it doesn't need the full drive system, but for EVs that shouldn't be as necessary. But front wheel drive also is far better for grip on wet pavement and snow as rear wheel drive causes a bit of lateral force that may cause the rear end to swing out. These forces do exist on front wheel drive, but due to the location in the direction of movement, the effect is vastly less impactful on traction. The main advantage for rear wheel drive is traction on sharp high speed turns. It also is better for drifting, though that is a very niche advantage. The only two major advantages to rear wheel drive is less shifting left or right on hard acceleration as the drive axel is not the same as steering, and it's superior for towing as it's closer to the mass of the trailer. But again, people have been actively buying front wheel drive cars because they're safer to drive in rain and snow. So do you prefer to constantly slam the accelerator, or do you not want to spin out.

Isn’t there a issue or torque steer and understeer with high powered high torque front wheel drive cars. I recall the FIAT COUPE was limited to 220bhp as that was deemed the maximum Manageable bhp through front tyres. I know modern developments like- eLSD, ESC and torque vectoring can help with these things. My preference would always be rear bias. And if additional winter traction is needed - Winter Tyres.

I configured an Ocean Ultra for myself on their web-site. If prices don't change from what they show now, even with additional options like a color upgrade and the winter package, it's price came in at under $53k, which is less than what I paid for my Model 3 LR last summer. The only thing that would hold me back from changing to to Fisker, would be the lack of service centers anywhere near where I live. A one way trip for me to the Tesla store is 114 mi/183 km, and there's no location in between, that's likely to land a Fisker service center.

Fuck finally. I've been waiting so long for a reviewer I trust to actually drive the Ocean. I'll update this post when I watch the whole video. Ok a few thoughts. I wish they made the drivers screen a little narrower. It seems like the there is a bit of dead space on the screen so making it narrower would prevent information being blocked by the steering wheel. Also the solar sky roof is a great idea but now that I've seen it, the open sky roof is better from an looks point of view. I live the placement of the charge port. I feel that is the best location on the vehicle for it. I'm a little sad that the rotating screen is only available on the top trim only.

Not an issue... It'll be a design/engineering decision on how they want the car to drive. Also I believe basic ID4 like the 3 is rear drive, I don't think heavy regen from the car would be a nice sensation. It may feel a little unstable, usually braking is dominated by the front as that is where the centre of mass shifts.

Along with the very small side windows and tiny back windshield gives the car an almost claustrophobic feel. Could just be the video, but could be an issue.
