Thank You sharing what you enjoy doing. I've been a fan of yours for a long time. It's great to see you not only doing a great job entertaining your fans but also making it educational as well. Keep doing what you doing. My question for you is, I've noticed you've been spot locking instead of anchoring. I've just bought me a 24 volt spot lock motor but haven't been in the water yet. How much battery do you use on your morning trips? TIA!
@KayakCatfish3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Frank. I have a 100ah lithium battery and I usually only charge it every 2 or 3 trips.
@frankdennis67913 жыл бұрын

Texas prohibits us from using yellow bass (or any morone species) for bait, but I caught a 54.5 lb catfish on a trotline once that I had not baited for a couple of weeks. Weather was going to be bad, so I left it empty. When I went to bait it after the storms, I had that big blue. 2 months later I ran the line and had 3 yellow bass hooked after 2 days of no bait. I figured that they hit the stainless hooks and the blue cat came along and gobbled one. My trotline design was one end on a tree and the other attached to a big jug anchored with a 85lb weight. Guess the jug moves the hooks enough for a yellow bass strike...
@wakingforbacon64393 жыл бұрын
Another thing you always catch more blues during the early time of year and though the summer. Towards the end of summer and start of fall you start catching more flatheads. In September is prime time for flattys.

If you hook your bluegill through the nose they will live longer than hooking them through the back. I only use live baits because we target alot of flat heads. Going to creeks and getting creek chubs also works great for flat heads. You should also try some goldfish. Pretty good for flat heads.
@matthewwilliams77353 жыл бұрын
Yeah man, in my neck o the woods nothing beats a big creek chubs for flatties, got a 42lb flat last time I used a live goldfish. Live bluegill, chub or goldfish is my triple threat for them.

You never leave fish to find fish! You're get alot of good fish plus you're getting into flatheads. I would fish that hole until they move out. It's got to be a blast to spot lock over one hole and catch fish like that for week

What you are doing is working well. Good pattern and hope it keeps up. I have problems with bluegill coming off the hook when approached by the catfish, I started adding a small piece of a plastic worm between the bait and the barb. Problem solved.

bank fishing I have caught more flat heads than blues on live bait! I went to the scioto river inside the 270 in Columbus, Ohio... the federal aggregate own it so go at your own risk... I was ticketed for trespassing for fishing there, but we fished there and we were catching flat heads at this spot every fish was between 15 - 20 lbs. we catch like 10 or 15 in a sitting! if my brother-in-law is watching he knows the spot! but we used creek live creek chubs as bait!

my biggest blues are always on bluegill heads the flatheads seem to destroy koi culls "clean out the low quality koi from our pond" that or in the spring the flat head go nuts for stocked trout. my boys love to catch the trout but they are not very good eating and tend to die no matter how lightly hooked. So i run a double hook setup similar to shark fishing with a whole trout.

Man I have been fishing pickwick lake and the river on the other side of the dam and haven’t got hardly any cats. Couple of small ones but really only one dink each trip. I’m using skipjack and gizzard shad.. I’m finding the deep holes and bottom of ledges with contour maps but it just isn’t happening. 5 fishing trips straight and only 5 fish. Using 5 rods. I’m using Carolina rig suspended. Even tried dragging. Just no luck

This location, with half of white bass versus half a large skipjack. You'd probably want tandem hooks on a larger profile presentation.
