Just recently found your channel. Thank you so much for presenting the beauty of Superior with the respect it deserves. I am old now but spent much of my young adult life experiencing nature the way you are here. Hard to put it into words but you have brought me back to what is really important in this world. You are very skilled at making these videos …. Dont change anything !

Longest video on this channel..."watch at your own pace" rather than multi-part. *There are chapters in the description for each day if needed. I broke it up into three parts but didn't like it, so this way you can break it up any way you like.* Must emphasize that this is not a beginner trip....if you want to start paddling this lake start small and build up. Zack, one of the authors of the guidebook for the area, operates Such A Nice Day (SAND) Adventures out of Rossport if you want someone to take you out on the big lake. And Darrell, the other author, works for the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area. ⮞ The guidebook I used is available here (incredible resource for the north shore in general) ⮜ suchaniceday.com/about/lake-superior-nmca-guide/?fbclid=IwAR0pBLdB6Zn-tt5aVATHrpT6ksydWyITwvJBb0vsq5UJY-IYltzlPF_4su8

You have created an incredible paean to Lake Superior. This video could have been broadcast on NOVA or Nature or National. In fact, it should be. I do not know how but, somehow, you managed to accumulate the boatload of good karma required to get an opportunity like this. When I was young, I did not have the freedom. Now that I have the freedom, I am old. I am glad that you had the youth and the freedom, the will to do it, and the decency to share it with us. Thank you.😎

I just tuned into this video and now find myself sitting in the dark, more than 2 hours later, left in complete awe and gratitude. Wow, what a treat! You kept me hooked, inspired and just loving this province I have called home for over 2 decades now. So much still to see. Could add so many comments, I am sure most of them have already been listed, so for now, just a deeply felt "thank YOU" for sharing this amazing journey! 👏 and doing it so, so well. I have embarked on my first winter camping this year, am off to Algonquin tomorrow for my 2nd stab at it, and your video has just made for the perfect "evening before" motivation. Thank You. 🤗🙏🏕💗

You've become one of Ontario's greatest adventurers. I've been watching your videos for years, and this one scared me more than the others. Superior is a beast and the weather can change on a whim, not to mention that water is always deadly cold. Travelling alone like that is incredibly brave. Great video bahd!

@Fishing Addict there are pros and cons with going with your partner. I am pretty slow in or out of the water (even when i was young, this was an issue).... so you have to be a very well matched pair, physically, mentally etc for it to work well. Extended walking trips with my guy worked well, but not so much the kayaking... (the wind resistance was a bit misery making for me) but the bits we did on calm days, for short trips were fun though.

Very few people have gotten to see four rainbows at the same time. I have. It helps to be wearing sunglasses I think. Sometimes I can see rainbow colors in the clouds when wearing them. Most people just shoot me a doubting smirk when I tell them I've seen 4 rainbows at once. I'm glad someone has documented it on video. Thank you!

I saw a lot of videos about this lake already and it's always amazing. You are a lucky guy, Jon. 😍👍And this sweet sauna Hut was a real surprise. I didn't know that those exist there. Jon, this was magnificent to watch! You were blessed with many things on this journey, including spectacular scenes of morning and evening colours. The ambient segments you put together showing those views were a highlight for me. With the dramatic landscape and the cold, clear blue water of Superior I can understand why this is your favourite lake on earth. Sorry for the multiple comments, but first of all: Crazy good shots, montage, everything. Shame for the big trout you couldn't get on camera. The gull vs eagle fight was awesome. As someone living way up north (near Kenogami lake), it's rare to see those eagles. I'm coming from Xander's channel, which I also just recently discovered and you guys really got me into canoeing and wild camping adventures. Instant sub. Now I just need to get over my fear of large lakes and rivers (had an extremely close call while swimming in a river where I almost drowned). Gotta start small and slow. Time for me to jump to your other videos!

Re watching yours. Joe's, and Posa's videos are really helpful in getting through boring hospital nights❤ Let's be honest....the TVs in here leave much to be desired😂 Anyway, thank you again for keeping me entertained and as comfortable as I can be....I feel like I get to escape just a little bit at a time 😊

Another Edward Abbey fan! I lost my paperback copy of Desert Solitaire so I picked another one up. Every so often, I will pick it up and read a chapter or two. Your quote sticks in my mind as well. My favorite lines are, "For God's sake, leave this place alone-Abbey," and, "For Abbey's sake, leave this place alone-God." Views on faith and God/god aside, the line resonates with my feelings when out in the woods or on the water.

Epic! I love your attitude and safety mindedness! I started doing day hikes in Denali, A Ranger told me they could not make suggestions on hikes, but if she could... she would suggest .. this... Every year, I came back and did another adding more days ... one day lead to 5 or 6 days. She eventually called me the ever-ready bunny. I eventually got too old the do the Bad-assness of all bad-assness trips for an 8 day trip. I hope to make that trip in the next life.

My father had an apartment building and one of his tenants and his buddy did what you are doing on Lake Superior,, And while on an island their canoes somehow got loose and they floated away and we’re stuck out there for 3 days lol. I’m telling you.. what just seems like a fun time and adventure, could kill you out there…. That lake is huge, always cold and creates its own weather system…. I love going to the north shore…. My wife and I were up there 3 years ago for our anniversary.. it’s like time had slowed.up there.. there is great wilderness to witness.. but it’s not without danger. One must be careful and ALWAYS let someone know where you are going..

I took half a dozen solo canoe trips in the bwca. The longest was 18 days I have been lucky to nevertip over the dry suit is a good idea. This trip is so beautiful and close to the trips I took.

Hey John! Im going back and watching some videos of yours that I haven't finished off yet as I sit here on the couch feeding my newborn at home for the first time, the scene of the baby beaver cries comes on and confuses me greatly. Awesome trip though! I can't wait to do this one when I'm ready one day!

Kudos - started watching but rarely stay with long you tubes....watched it all the way thru. Thanks for taking us along with you as it was totally captivating. You're cinematography, dialogue, and camping/ paddling skills are to be admired. As a Adirondack long in tooth paddler hack I could never make this trip so I am thankful to go along with you. Write that book to be included with the one's you admire for generations to follow. You're adventures rank with the best of them. Congrats on a great video and channel. Ciao

Seeing the sheer size of this uninhabited country you can imagine why species like Sasquatch can survive with minimal human interaction for hundreds or thousands of years. Abundant food, huge resources, lots of places to hide. Truly amazing film man.
