Eyy I did a very similar trip as you 2 years ago! I live in Whitby so just 10kms East of you and I have a '22 Long Range. I got to skip Kingston and charged at Cornwall. I got to skip Montreal and charged at Quebec City (Levis) I got to skip Riviere du Loup and made it all the way to Rodeway Inn. I got lucky and got their J1772 charger overnight. The next day, we drove from Rodeway Inn to Salisbury, NB then to Charlottetown, PEI. 👍

At Rodeway, the single J1772 was occupied both ways! Thankfully there's a Supercharger like a 10 min drive away

A second nice!!!!! Did she roll her eyes at you like mine does?

Thanks! And I did it many more times than what I left in the video. Basically every leg where the charge level hit 69% hahaha

Nice job ! I went from Montreal to PEI this summer and was a great drive. And as you did, the car was ready to go before I was. 4 charging stops for 1100 Km on my Tesla M3 LR.

I'll be joining the ranks of EV drivers tomorrow and I am very excited. I bought the same model 3, only with the trailer hook and the extended autopilot to be able to summon the car once the software is ready. great video !

Awesome trip! I was wondering what gauge wire were you using for your extension cable? Auto pilot is defiantly a champ indeed even under bad conditions.
@MikeInTheWoods Жыл бұрын
Don't know the gauge, but it's rated for 15A

Quebec seems to have a lot more EVs than Ontario, also more charging opportunities.

After having watched the video(I looked up this video because we like doing road trips to Nova Scotia, visit its beautiful beaches), I am still sitting on the fence about evs on long road trips, I find that even though you get decent charge in 20 minutes or so, you are only limited to certain places, if you want to go grab a bite at a place(my wife refuses to settle for fast food on vacation she finds restaurants people recommend on some app while I drive) that does not have ev charger available you have to do separate stops, that's more time out of the trip and I would be waiting in parking lot of some mall or somewhere we really have no interest of being, no sight seeing value, end up giving into temptations of Tim Hortons or McDonald's we otherwise wouldn't have purchased, that's extra money and less stomach for things we actually want to eat. and we see more and more people waiting(probably not as bad back when this video was shot) in line for an ev charging spot now in Ottawa, and not all places have fast charging, and on top of that, in US on average 1 in 5 public chargers don't work, I am not sure if Canada's gonna be much better. More leaning towards phevs atm, I think if we ever get a 2nd car we will definitely go for a full ev. Really appreciate your video though even though it didn't convince me to buy an ev it at least helped me on making a decision.

With EVs you can choose to stop for less time, but stop a bit more. The way charging speed works is the fuller the battery the slower charging is, so if you keep the battery lower then charging is faster. It has its pros and cons of course but that's one way to speed up charging a little bit. Charging speed also depends on your car and the charger itself; i.e. if your car only accepts 50kW then it doesn't matter if the charger is a 250kW. In terms of charging locations, it's getter better over time. I current live in the Acadian peninsula in New-Brunswick and the level 3 chargers were a bit lacking, though they added one in Miramichi not that long ago. Tesla also allows users to vote on future supercharger locations every 3 months so that's another way to make your voice heard on where new chargers should be installed (assuming you own a Tesla or a car that can accept NACS charging). In Canada it depends in which province you are. In Québec they are pushing a lot for EVs so the charging infrastructure will be better than any other province, and possibly most states as well.

@Alternity666 yeah I see one video of people doing charging up to 60% and then continue to drive, but still longer than it takes longer than it takes to fill gas and really not a very good restaurant or view right beside, and people are lining up as more and more evs are on the road. I think our first full ev will be something with solid state battery(looking at you Toyota) they should be much faster to charge and have much better range. But still at least 4-5 years down the road, and probably 2 year waitlist for them when they finally come lol. If we get a 2nd car then it could be ev that we can use for daily driving perhaps, a niro or something.

@@d173928 To be quite honest here, generally I wait more for gas than electricity. Here anyways in New-Brunswick, lines for gas fills can take up to 20 minutes, not only you wait for people to fill up but they leave their cars at the pump, go in to pay, it takes forever. Charging usually takes 10mins more or less, of course it can take more if you need a high charge, but I'd say average about 10mins. So far I never needed to wait to charge. I use this 10 minutes to stretch my legs, go to the bathroom. I go from gas and electric as we have both here, and I gotta say using a gas car is generally more frustrating.
@Alternity6663 ай бұрын
@@d173928 I personally don't think a 10min charge is an issue, unless you live your life on the road. I only need to use public chargers a couple times a year, 99% of the time I charge the car at home while I'm sleeping.

RIP American Tim Hortons aka "Burger King" we miss the original Tim Hortons quality 😔. August 26, 2014 was a very sad day, Burger King agreed to merge with Tim Hortons for US $11.4 billion. The two chains became subsidiaries of Toronto based holding company Restaurant Brands International😔. No more roasted red peppers on their Farmer breakfast burritos do to the added cost of red peppers 😔. No more beautiful nutritional Crisp & Green Romaine lettuce put on sandwiches, but now instead brown shredded iceberg lettuce 🤮😔. No more high quality honey mustard spread on the turkey club sandwich do to the add cost for the Burger King chain👎. Do you remember the delicious heavy, dense and chewy sub rolls of the 90's and early 2000's Tim Hortons used to use for their sub sandwiches, i do so yummy 😋. The sad part is the general public doesn't even notice these atrocities and losses 🤷. Somehow they accept the corn syrup that is now used for the chocolate chip muffins as an acceptable sugar substitute 🤷. RIP Tim Hortons restaurant😥 i will always remember what you used to be😑. Way to go Burger King💪🙄 you must be killing it in the profit margin right now🖕. Thanks for ruining a Western New York tradition since 1984 (in Tonawanda, NY)😔. You should thank God for Canadian public👍 they will never jump ship on Tim Hortons Burger King, they are way to loyal for that to happen 🤷. 🖕BK you don't deserve to use the name Tim Hortons now shame on you 👉. As far as the video thank you very much you really opened my eyes to the possibility of EV's. ✌️

@@TomTurnerIT Yes👍. The honey mustard turkey bacon club when first released in 07'ish was decent. It was top of the line cold-cut turkey back then minimally processed with a really good 10" or 5" sub roll. It's been 16 years since they offered a full size 10 inch submarine sandwich 🤷.
