I did that trip in my Kona EV the other way last August - from Victoria, BC to Ottawa and Toronto. I had a lot of lookie loos at that charger in Carleton Place too. And in Norwood, all the washrooms were closed due to the pandemic. I also found many Petro-Can chargers on the prairies that wouldn't activate, almost stranding me twice. EC wasn't up yet and they are way more reliable. I drove to Lethbridge, AB in February and slept in the car at -24 plugged in on Level 2 with the heat on. Quite cozy. But the car reached full charge and the heat turned off (no utility mode). I woke up to -10 in the car. Great video.

Something that I would love to see in the future: as a wheelchair user, please highlight when chargers do and don't have handicap accessibility! I'm ordering a Tesla Model 3 because I need a sedan, but handicap spaces near chargers are frustratingly few and far between. Even in California they're normally just labeled as "use this one last please", and they're always occupied because nobody reads the sign.

Great road trip! I live in Montreal now but born in Quebec City, and always feel proud of my hometown when I see people enjoying its sights! I'm on a waiting list for an Ioniq 5 Ultimate, just as you drove, and we are getting bad news that Hyundai can't deliver them this year, it might be end of 2023 and begining of 2024. I'll have to be patient, but I hope that those who got the car early know how lucky they are!

and the vehicle will still be a 2021 or 2022 and accumulate 1-2 years of depreciation for something you did not own nor drive and the prices are often above MSRP.
@UpMySleeves2 жыл бұрын
@@phlotographer Prices are not above MSRP here in Canada, nor markups. And no the build the cars as they go, so it won't be a 2022 model in 2024. It should be a 2024.
@phlotographer2 жыл бұрын
@@UpMySleeves interesting about MSRP as so many reports have not supported that thought but good to know. Well, if folks buy in advance are they getting a contract to say they get a 2024? Also, if so, is the car really 2024 updated vehicle or simply a 2022 that says it was built in 2024. Everything right now is very dicey and there are a lot of things going on that have to be questioned. I certainly will wait until product is on the lot and one can see different models with different colors for any vehicle.
@UpMySleeves2 жыл бұрын
Currently no contract, just a deposit to be in a waiting list. No dealer has any sort of inventory (speaking for here in Quebec). The cars are ordered and shipped directly to customers. So it is impossible that a 2022 model would sit until 2024 and be passed as a 2024. Those who have ordered are given their VIN and get updates from Hyundai from build to shipment.

South Korea where the home country of IONIQ 5, the temperatures drop below -20C(some mountains drop to below -30C) in winter, and rise above 40C in summer. It is also harsh for everyone and everything, So the battery manage system should be optimized for that harse weather in Korea. I'm also glad to hear this system also work in Canada.

I think the problem with the low loading speeds is the battery temperature. It can only take 150+ kw if it is in the right temp range. You should use the onboard navigation and select your next charging spot. Then the car knows when it will be charged and it will preheat the battery.

not sure the I 5 is large enough when we have to take a foldable electric scooter plus walker etc. Hopefully the Lyriq will be larger and maybe by then Canada will have more charging stations but a home level 2 will do the trick under normal circumstances. Trunk space and road height are always the key for we older folk. Also, no wiper on the rear?? The Tucson does a great job of wiper that is hidden. Maybe the Genesis GV8 will come out with an EV version and hide the wiper.

Really helpful review, thank you for it! Two quick questions from a 6'1" guy who likes to camp 1.) Did you have the front seats pushed all the way forward when you camped in the back? If not, would doing so add enough room to stretch out, say another 6-8"? 2.) Isis possible to run utility mode overnight while camping in it while the Ioniq is hooked up toa lvl 1 or lvl 2 charger? Very curious about that if you can test it.
@fakamada2 жыл бұрын
You might fit with the seats pushed all the way forward, technically but you will feel cramped still. Anyway, you can sleep if you are a side-sleeper and if you are comfortable with your knees folded a little bit during the night. EV6 is a little longer if you get GT or a higher trim. This might add up a little bit.

On one hand I’m thinking about range anxiety…on the other hand I’m thinking if we’re going to see a resurgence to visiting small towns instead of trying to “make good time” on the big highways. Unless the mass of EV charge from 10% to 80% in 10-15min max consistently, EV charging stations are really not “gas stations” and the current location of many gas stations are built for a 5 min “pit stop” - dull areas, fast food. I could imagine the most popular EV charging stops are going to be the ones that are also situation near great restaurants, shops etc. where 30-40min would pass by with a pleasant complementary experience - could this be an exciting change to road travel and travel patterns? I hope so!

Granted this is a video about an EV, but it feels like your trip was from charging station to charging station. Did it feel like that in person? Does this vehicle use the braking energy to add add'l kw? I think you would have mentioned it if it did. I follow a couple of guys from Norway on YT (Arne & Carlos) and they recently bought one too. They are knitwear designers so like them, I would be knitting while waiting for the car to charge. My only issue with this vehicle is the lack of a solar panel. I've said for years I'll buy an EV when they put a solar panel on the roof! Surprisingly, about 2 weeks ago, I found out that Fisker IS making a car with a solar panel. I was on the verge of paying for a reservation for a Fisker Ocean only to discover that it indeed has a solar panel, but it's only on the highest end model ($68,000 US) and the solar panel only gives you an additional 1200 miles per year. That convinced me that they're not quite there yet. Still looking at other possibilities, I'm hearing that Toyota has an EV coming out in the next few years that will have a functioning solar panel. It's incorporated into the sunroof, I think it's kinda cool. Good luck with your Ioniq 5!

Man I'll long for the day the EV charging network in my country reaches maturity. I'd love to just hop on this car someday and go on a week long trip across the country.

I have a question, forgive me if it was already answered. How do charging stops Integrate with Apple car play. I love using that for maps but I don’t know how I would be able to plug in my upcoming charging destinations.

Amazing videos! Loved both the parts Also, on a side note, it was very obvious when you used a phone to record haha. Especially in the night! Stabilisation was so bad 😱

Would you be surprised to know that 90% of the shots in these videos were shot on my phone?

@@MarkSpurrell not really. It's obviously more of a vlog type of video. For my eyes it was mostly obvious when it was a phone. For the most part it wasn't even bad. The stabilisation suffered in a few places and the night time part when you set up the bed and spoke was grainy and looked bad

@@MarkSpurrell also, I'm not criticising you . Just noticed the difference in quality (or resolution or whatever you want to call it) from your regular videos and this one Loved both the videos! 🔥💪🏾

Wow, that was many hours waiting at charging stations 😲 That blue Hyundai had to wait for you to finish. Good grief.

yup and that seems to happen quite a bit even now and it could get worse are more EV's are sold.
