An inline 6 is so vibration free when you first drive them it feels like they aren’t running. They make peak torque from 1400rpm straight to redline and the depth of your wallet is the only limiting factor in power potential. They just make power everywhere, down low, midrange, up top, if you’re in the right gear you hit the gas and go! It’s true they don’t make the noise of a V8 but thankfully they also don’t make the noise of a V6. That way you can have some fun and mod your car instead of putting all your money into a payment. And don’t think those B58’s aren’t going to have leaky gaskets and problems when they’re hitting 120,000 miles, easy to talk about reliability with 40,000 miles and two years of warranty left. I’ve got an E92 N54, had it for 5 years, done the plugs and coils and I’m about to do my water pump so other than oil changes I’m looking at about $700 over 5 years in maintenance. Going to walnut blast it next year, do the oil filter housing gaskets and a valve cover and gasket at the same time preventatively maybe $1000 for all that and the year after that I’m going to do a turbo upgrade and while I’m down there I’m going to do the oil pan gasket. Anyway my point is if you’re young don’t overspend just to have something new and flashy that’s not what the car scene is about, you need to have enough left over to actually enjoy life. Nothing sounds better with an open exhaust than it does with a proper exhaust setup. V6 sounds completely different than an I6 etc etc etc - not everything is about the amount of cylinders, and no engine should be dumping sound straight into the atmosphere without a proper exhaust setup. Joe Dirts car may be valuable at Barrett Jackson but that doesn’t mean he dumped his v8 into a straight pipe and it sounded good just because it was a V8. Modifying your car wrong to make it louder doesn’t make it sound good. Loud good.

It is enough to raise an eyebrow but I always like to wait to see what quirks are worked out and if any potential issues are worked out before giving my complete thoughts.

That Ancel battery tester is pretty cool. I'm going to have to look at getting one of those. Since my car is a push to start, it will either crank or it will not.. so I can't gauge on starter behavior to know if my battery is weak! A tester like that would be perfect to avoid the dreaded, no start scenario! As for the Hurricane I6, I'm not quite sure yet... I guess we'll have to see it installed in a performance car, see how it performs and holds up, and let time speak for it's reputation.

The only non wear and tear item I had to have repaired was the 6 CD Changer which I had a new changer put in it with a local old timer like me, I'm 72. He had it out of the dash in less than 5 minutes and back in the car in 5 days. The Charger has 33,500 miles on the 5.7L V8 and the only thing I have added to it is a OIL CATCH CAN. I put a new set of tires on it at 33,000 because I have too much fun laying down some rubber. With the new set of tires I have learned a good lesson and only did one burn out since they were new. I am only putting between 3500 and 5000 miles a year on it. One oil change a year with Mobile 1 or Pennzoil Full Synthetic for both cars. My wife drives the Altima and the HEMI is mine,LOL.

@carboydorifutoparty39765 ай бұрын
Well. I'll say what I've have heard as of late being a major issue. So basically, there's a thermostat issue that is causing engines to overheat/blow because a cheap plastic piece within the thermostat snaps and sits in place preventing the engine from cooling down. This is happening at very low mileage (5-20k mile)wagoneers with hurricane regardless of the variant in the car. It's getting fixed and dealers are addressing the issue,so I'd wait for them to recall them first or wait another year before buying them(tho other issues seem to be electrical with the wagoneer that may pass over to the new 1500s).

But coming from being interested in tuning and having some background and knowledge with BMW tuning and their engine platforms potential. This engine in an American truck has me very excited to see the power potential with mods and tuning. This engine has the same specs and technology that the bmw engines have that are easily capable and reliable handling big power at higher rpm. I would love to be a part of creating a big single turbo kit for these, especially for the new RHO truck owners where they can most likely make enough power in mods to beat the predecessor 6.2TRX. Then make people realize these engines aren’t a joke. Also in hp numbers, we’ve always wanted to see a 6.4 in a 1500 Ram. The HO Hurricane power number wise is like putting a 6.4 in a 1500. And it’s about time.

Only complaint I have is the engine is jumpy from idle speed to about 1100 rpm. something is wrong with its throttle response at very low rpm.

Just bought a new Ram with this engine. It is ridiculously quick! Purchased an extended warranty for the powertrain just in case Ait has issues.

People with reservations about the 6 cylinder with twin turbos versus the V8, just research the 1987 Grand National GNX, V6 single Garrett turbo, fastest production car in 87, the numbers were reduced for insurance and tree hugger purposes, just imagine what the technology is today!!
@Sagewyn5 ай бұрын
Agreed on the GN. Wonder how fast it would be with a twin turbo v-8? , I owned and loved the Grand National, but this Dodge 6 cyl will likely have higher maintenence with Turbos than a regular Dodge v8. I would buy another RWD Grand National in a second.
@Daniel738655 ай бұрын
The issue is just it’s a v6 not that it’s not fast or anything it’s just not a true muscle car. I have a hellcat and a stinger the stinger gets up and goes with some upgrades could smoke the hellcat all day. But I just don’t like the way v6s drive which is a lot of people’s issues I think is they just don’t want a v6 they’d rather drive a v8 even if it’s slower then a tt 6 cylinder

@@Daniel73865 I completely understand, very few people liked the idea of turbos period, all I can say is if you ride the old wooden wheeled wagon too long, eventually you won’t make it to town and back…

@@bobbybraddock7530 I’ll agree to a certain extent. They lifted the whole mandatory ev thing they’re trying to make cars and light trucks average 50mpg by 2031. Point being the way it’s going it won’t matter if you like a v6 or not we all are gonna be driving 4 bangers with 150hp soon if we keep letting them get their way.

I own an BMW M4 Comp that comes with the S58 inline 6 twin turbo. Has crazy power and with a few mods and a tune people are seeing 700 WHP out of the platform that can be daily driven. Sounds like garbage, I will admit, the way the turbos are arranged and the exhaust is setup but love it.

@susanestes418 is this the same bmw that use to make 1500hp out of a 1.5 liter turbo 4 for f1 in the early 80s, is this the same bmw that made the engine for the first 240mph super car in the early 90s, has dodge ever done that😂

A 3.0l l6 is better than a 3.0l v6 and a 3.0l H6 and even a 3.0l v8 the l6 produce naturally more torque than all

love my 2013 RAM w/ hemi. Still on the fence about this. Turbos are tough on an engine....will it last 200,000 miles like a naturally aspirated v8? At $70,000 purchase price it needs to.

I just drove a Ram Rebel with the SO Hurricane, and man, is it impressive. Leaves the 5.7 Hemi in the dust. I drove it up a mountain, and the midrange torque is very impressive. People are being too negative about these things. I'm really excited to see what it does in the new Charger.

The problem is if you actually use a truck for by kind of hauling with weight. Your gas mileage tanks. TFL did a video saying it was actually worse than hemi with e torque
@AP383BB5 ай бұрын
@carlwemple6075 their test was up a mountain. They have yet to test it on flat surfaces to my knowledge (not saying the same isn't true, I just haven't seen the video). Also, while this may matter to some consumers, the vast majority of owners will never even tow with their truck. Also, the EPA doesn't care about economy while towing. They only test in ideal situations and they care even more about smog rating than MPG. The hemi was one of the worst smog rated engines on the market. The hurricanes are much better and get better EPA ratings. That's what stops Stellantis from having to pay as much fines.

Just more stuff to break on that engine look at the eco boost it's got problems when it gets higher mileage that engine will do the same

I work at landrover dealership and we had or have many trade ins or auction of mixed kinds of wagoneers. Ive driven the grand wagoneer with the v8 and it is comfortable, roomy, and when it comes to power and sound, its good! Also driven the inline 6 turbo HO wagoneers and yea its faster, but my spark of it was just, "eh its ok for what it is, just fast". Im a sound guy, if it doesnt sound good, i wont own one! Maybe trade my srt durango for the grand wagonner with the v8 class for the roominess and some sound it makes. Stellantis, should make a manual transmission variant of their inline 6 turbo HO, maybe were talk then. 😎👍

This tester is cheaper than a battery and you can use it over and over again. No sense in shotgunning parts when you can diagnose for much cheaper. I checked his link and when you click the 40% off coupon before adding to cart it was only 24 bucks.
