All this 0 to 60 does not truly matter for 99% of the buyers. What matters is how reliable this engine will be when using for normal driving and work. Two big issues I have with the Hurricane engine: 1.) Over engineered which means it is a costly nightmare to repair in the future; stupid design like no oil dip stick for example. 2.) Having to add Twin Turbo to get barely under the towing of a 5.7 Hemi is not a good sign. The Hurricane will run very hot when towing (again refer to the over engineering of this engine). Sorry, but this is a hard pass for me. The Hemi is a solid engine that does not need the gadgets of twin turbos to perform solid. Also when the 5.7 needs to be repaired, its not a nightmare like the Hurricane. All engines wear and break down. Plus you are going to trust Stellantis's electronics to monitor oil life? I mean they are using the cheapest junk on the market for electrical parts. I'll keep my 2020 1500 with my non-eco 5.7 Hemi for as long as I can.

Spot on, more to due with emissions then fuel economy, however I think fuel economy by the 55mph government testing standards not reality these small motors can pull off better mpg helping the mfg fleet averages. Of course you guys are 100% correct I. The real world especially in the heartland states where we have a lot high wind speeds and 75-85mph interstate speed limits. These small turbo motors will be relying heavily on their turbos and negating any real world fuel savings.

IMO the Hurricane is suffering from the way it was introduced more than what it actually is. People LOVE their HEMI's, right or wrong, they DO. So when you take something away and replace it with something that DOES NOT replace, what I believe, to be, the most important characteristics of the HEMI, the sound and feel of driving one, folks will be upset. The love for the HEMI had little to do with 0-60 or HP/Torque numbers at this point. The Hurrican could be the greatest engine to ever grace an engine bay BUT it was DOA to many with the way Stellantis, looking at you little carlos, told everyone "Screw you, no more of the engine you love you will take this TT 3.0L that sounds about as good as my washing machine and you will be Grateful peasants!" (I am of course paraphrasing lol.) They did the same thing with the Hornet, it could have been the greatest little four banger crossover to ever, a, crossover but they took away all the HEMI muscle cars and in the next breath introduced that little alpha in a "dodge" costume and a EV. Gee I wonder why they are not being widley imbraced. Straight-up BAFOONS are in charge at stellantis.
@briancavanaugh76043 ай бұрын
One more thing, IF stellantis and little carlos had any foresight at all they would have realized that they NEEDED to at least have an option for some sort of exhaust upgrade for the hurricane. I KNOW it would never sound like a HEMI but is sounds like a blender gave a dishwasher a special hug behind the garage FFS. Even the chief engineer when interviewed kept talking about the "refinement" of the engine, no one loved the HEMI for it's refinement, they are detached from reality over there at stellantis.

As a Subaru tech that went to Subaru school in 1986 for the cvt in the Justy model, the usual service done is remove the drain plug and install new fluid. We were trained to drop the pan and clean the magnet(s) BECAUSE CVT's shed more metal than a non cvt. I've done service on friends Subaru cvt's and at 50,000 miles the magnet(s) are almost full. The magnetic field can only pull in so much debris, after that the debris is in constant circulation causing troubles. Local dealer parts dept manager says the Subaru cvt's are a disaster. Rebuilt factory cvt's are not an available option, new only at about $6,500 plus tax and installation. He said the only serviceable parts are a valve body and torque converter. These items don't do well being lubricated with metalized fluid. I see KZbin videos just fluid flushing or changing but no magnet cleaning!!

The Hemi tick is due to 3 issues one cheap lifters and cams from suppliers, a supposed slight oil supply deficiency to the cam/lifters in the engine design (which is debatable because if that was the case essentially every engine would fail) and cylinder deactivation technology (which is a problem in all V8's and for the miniscule fuel savings should be scrapped). The lifter/cam supplier issue have been resolved years ago and the incidence of lifter failure since then is much lower. Reality is most of the ticking you hear in a newer 5.7 Hemi is from exhaust leaks from broken exhaust manifold studs. I've put well over 300k on multiple 5.7 Hemis and never had any cam/lifter issues. My guess is if you have a late model Hemi and you change your oil every 5 or 6k you have very little chance of having cam/lifter issues.

Just spent 2 weeks in a Wagoneer with the hurricane SO. I would never buy one because if it breaks its gonna be a spendy fix for sure. That said, I was impressed with the power and it was fun to drive. I beat on it over 4k miles, in all kinds of hilly and flat freeway and averaged 19.6 mpg over the 4k mile trip.

After 8 vehicles I am leaving Stellantis/MOPAR. I really don't like where they are headed and now am just waiting out the last in the fleet (Wrangler 4xe lease) to dump completely. Values are plummeting, msrp's are rising, dealers and products are suffering and the management for the US has no clue what to do. We've had 4 Ram 1500's with the 5.7 and all were great in their own way. I hope the new trucks work out for those who buy them but unfortunately I won't be one of them.

I love the driving dynamics of a boosted engine. Time will tell about the reliability. Ford seems to have done a decent job with the 2.7 and 3.5 eb as I have had both and they were reliable. I now have a 22 RAM with 5.7 HEMI and although it has less power than the boosted motors the reliability is pretty good and fuel mileage is actually better in my experience. I went with the RAM because of the rest of the truck not just the powertrain. Thanks for the video it was fun.

Reliability is a big concern for the Hurricane as they are quite complicated with twin turbos each with electronic waste gates and each with oil and water cooling with a separate low temp cooling system with a separate electric cooling pump. That's a lot of potential failure points and likely very expensive parts

The numbers are impressive. As much as I hate that the Hemi has been discontinued, I love the idea of a turbo inline-6. My concern is reliability (no, not because of the turbos), it seems that Stellantis quality has been slipping. As a Mopar fan (and former Mopar tech), it's hard for me to admit this. I special-ordered a 2022 Charger Scat Pack, and it has just amazed me what piddly stupid stuff was missed by QC, I don't trust the quality of the car like I did with all of other Mopars I've owned in the past. If they missed the small stuff, what other stuff did they miss?? It's the first time I've ever bought an extended factory warranty, and at this rate I'm sure I'll be utilizing it. I really hope that they're addressing the quality issues.

Super unrelated to Ram, but I drove a 2022 Nissan Armada with their 5.6 liter V8 (400 HP and 413 lb-ft of torque) and I managed to pull a 5.2 second 0-60. I am in Texas with lower altitudes, and given I (being the driver) only weigh 135 lbs, I pulled that time, even in 2 wheel drive (I don't have a 4x4 system). I know you'll see 6+ seconds on google but I have the history on file, I pulled a 5.2.

This is is an awesome review and comparison. I was wondering what the differences were going to be, I’d heard this new Hurricane was coming a while ago! While I hate to see the ol v8 go , they are reliable and generally simple designs and make great power. I have always liked inline 6 engines for various inherent design advantages. Also many of the most reliable engines that have graced the industry have been inline 6 cylinders , slant six, the Ford 4.9 300 inline 6 , some BMW I-6 motors, Toyota’s 1Fz -FE 4.5 inline 6, 1jz-gte (turbo), 2jz-ge (non turbo)3.0 I-6 engines. Chevys old inline 6 , jeep 4.0 I-6 all were tried and true overall to be fair! I will have some concerns with the turbos and other new tech they have going on in these trucks. Also it doesn’t help considering the current state of Stelantis as a company with some production issues . but turbos if designed well with good cooling methods, if carefully and meticulously maintained have been known to do well. Mercedes used turbos in some healthy and reliable diesels going back to early 80’s in the SEL 300 D’s I believe. Time well tell hopefully these new engines fair well

I'm dumb enough to have actually written a letter to RAM to predict the FAIL. In that letter, I said, "Ram is not the brand. HEMI is the brand." They'll discover that nobody wants a blown inline 6. It's unfortunate. At some point I'll want to swap my Blue Streak Pearlcoat 2019 Ram Big Horn North Edition for another truck. But it likely won't be a new RAM 1500. Maybe I'll pony up for a Cummins Turbodiesel powered RAM 2500, but since they discontinued the BSP paint color in 2019, I'll have to settle for another color - maybe Hydro Blue Pearlcoat, which isn't available on all 2500 models. The aggravations are mounting up, and a nice 2500 diesel GMC truck is starting to look pretty nice! After over 20 years, and ownership of four RAMs in a row, I shouldn't even be thinking about a GMC. But believe me, I am.

I drove a S.O. version at a Dodge dealer(actually went there to check out a used 22 F150) and honestly the SO version didn't feel any better or worse than the 3.5 Ecoboost. Needless to say I bought the slightly used F150 because it was a much better deal, mostly.
