Losing the weight is quite easy. Not falling back into the old tracks is hard. Which is the problem with diets. You work hard for a month and then what? You just get right back at eating unhealthy again. You need to find a new healthy way of life that works for you in the long run and keeps you satisfied. That is the hard part.

This is great. I spent 18 years working at Cambridge (uk) unversity on diabetes and obesity. What guga has said here is largely correct. You cannot lose weight without eating fewer calories than you expend. Different methods of acheiving this goal work for different people - but magic diets are lies. You have to eat less than you expend, its physics not biology. Me and my wife have gone through the same thing recently, 50lb for me and 39lb for her and we have done what guga suggests - not the same foods, but the same principle. Its hard work but his focus on flavour and taste, while focussing on calorie budget, is great. All power to you guga!

It's amazing the lengths people will go to to justify not dieting an exercising when they need to lose weight. If you need to lose weight, reduce calories and exercise. If it's not working? Reduce calories more and exercise more. There's a lot of things that affect _how difficult it is to do that,_ but in the end, it's calories in, calories out that determines the weight you lose.

@@interuniversal321 carnivore or paleo can easily maintain or gain weight if you don't pay attention. CICO is king. I was 150kgs at 50. Been struggling since a teenger. Tried all types of diets. Was always active for my size and played all sports at school. As an adult. Boxing, Karate, Mountain Biking and MMA. At 50 I started calorie counting, as I had an accident at work and needed to lose weight to assist my injured knee. I lost 50 kgs in 8 months. No exercise. 2 of my 7 days were fasting, only eating 600 cals on those days and 1800 on the rest. I also used a phone app called my fitness pal, to monitor fats, carbos, protein, sugars etc. Cut out bread and all processed foods. I started eating breakfast, something I never done. Oats and honey. Drank only water, not as much as you first did. Unfortunately as I lost the weight I became ill. Diagnosed with MGUS just before lockdown 2020. I am recovering from a spinal operation that was done last year after a MRI. It saw me having 24 hrs to be in surgery to save my life. Which I was given 2 years to recover from. I am still waiting on the original operations 7 years on, which I have no idea when they will happen. This is New Zealand. Upside is that I am alive and enjoy watching your channels. And was only thinking to myself recently how much girth you have lost. Well done. Looking forward to future shows, and Angel eating more vegetables.

Honestly, if you did a video session on TASTY protein based meals with calorie breakouts, I'd be super interested. I've been using Greg Ducette's cookbooks for years for maintenance, but a fresh perspective from a man who also loves food is a great thing!

Unless you have one of those rare conditions that make it almost impossible to loose weight (yes, they do exist) but other than that, no, there isn't really an excuse. Edit: There aren't any conditions that are specific to weight loss, but there are conditions where ability to lose weight is very difficult. Hypothyroidism is an example of one and so is diabetes.

We don't want to make the people necessarily feel like they're shitty people when it's not actually their fault. I have weight issues, but not due to those therefore I don't have the excuse. That being said, I actually do have an eating and workout plan, but so much stuff happened in my life that it kinda made it hard to implement things the way I want to, but that's not an excuse to not do it - if anything, it gives me more time to think over stuff before actually jumping into it as I probably should run it by my doctor first.

Congrats Guga! I'm also on the weight loss journey since I was diagnosed with diabetes and kidney failure. I lost a total of 100 pounds and put my diabetes into remission. My method was controlling my sodium and sugar intake (I used teaspoons of fish or soy sauce along with sugar or honey per serving), eating a LOT of stir fry veggies, and most importantly, limiting fast food and packaged food (i cut it completely when I was first diagnosed). I also limited my carbs only for breakfast or after a workout which is usually a small serving, and my dinner is only protein and veggies. I'm excited to see your progress and any steps you've taken along the way!

Portion control and lots of lean protein, salads, veggies, cutting carbs, limited alcohol choices definitely helped. My guilty pleasure is soda but that is the only sugar I like. I love to cook, so changing the spices and methods of cooking was instrumental. Lots of quality fats. I used unsalted butter to control sodium. I salted separate from my spices. As for intermittent fasting... my first meal was between 12-1pm. Next meal was between 6-7pm. Bulletproof coffee was a huge help when getting started. It did help with cravings.

Hey Guga, congratulations!!! Fan from Germany here. I was nearly 300 pounds at one point, but have been mostly fit for the past twelve years. I have two tips for you that you might consider. 1.) The person who taught me proper nutrition, urged me to only eat large amounts of carbs after weight training. This is when the muscles need them in order to rebuild. In my experience this works like a charm. On other days, focus on mostly protein and fats. 2.) Consider trying calisthenics. You're essentially training with your bodyweight, and will feel a lot more "toned". Plus you won't need a gym when you travel, and will have a lot more freedom with what you can eat while abroad 😊
@itsmederek13 ай бұрын
Calisthenics does not make you more toned, it grows muscles the exact same way as weights. Timing carbs post training has also been proven not to matter at all, the most important things are not being to far above or below maintenance calories and eating high protein to be satiated and grow muscle.
@severalwolves3 ай бұрын
back in the day when dudes smoked a pipe and wore a turtleneck while they worked out, calisthenics was the only type of exercise that had been invented yet. haha I’m just kidding. those old pictures of beefy guys doing calisthenics and throwing medicine balls at each other are funny though. and it’s crazy that so much of the common forms of exercise (and strength training) that we use today have only been around for a few decades.

I lost about 70 pounds a few years ago, mostly dieting and limiting calories but also a good bit of easy excersise (walking 4 miles each morning when its cool and comfortable outside). I tried the gym as well, I always found it made me hungrier than calories burned. Came to the realization calories are far easier to eat than burn. So I limited my intake to 1500 calories a day, if I could eat less I did. I am 6'2 and I was 275 pounds. In the end I was 202, under 200 was my last updated goal but I really stalled at 202 still I was pleased and I felt a lot more energetic after. As for dieting its hard at first, you will always feel hungry but if you stick too it for 2 weeks it becomes a lot easier as your body just gets use to the smaller meals so you really don't feel very hungry in between meals.

I love this video. The reason is that I´ve been really struggling with my weight for the last 10 years. Lost over 100lbs, just to gain almost everything back, lost around 75 lbs, gained it back again, I was never able to maintain it. Didn´t matter if I was on Keto, if I ate carbs and enough protein (basically a balanced diet), I just wasn´t able to maintain the weight after a weight loss phase. Now I´m at 230 lbs with 33% body fat, absolutely not what I want. Been going to the Gym for 8 months now, didn´t loose weight, but at least didn´t gain any weight either. Watching you´re journey and your methods is really refreshing to see, especially because my struggles are very similar to yours. Finding ways to satsfy your cravings is the key, don´t skip on everything you used to love (like you do on Keto), but finds creative and clever ways and you will be successful in the long run. I hope you can maintain it and you should be very proud of what you have accomplished, well done man!

Remember it's always calories and calories out. Record a typical day of eating, write down everything including cooking oils, sauces, etc. Then add up the calories. 2k calories is a good indicator but if you notice you're no longer losing weight on 2k calories. That means it's now your maintenance and you either have to lower the calories you're eating or increase your muscle mass or increase cardio

Here is some unsolicited advice from someone who lost 25 lbs over the past 18 months (200 to 175). I plan to lose 10 more pounds before the year ends. Guga’s advice of calories in calories out, prioritizing protein, and weight training is all great advice. The only thing I disagree with is how fast he did it. Losing 100 pounds in 8 months requires nearly a 1,500 calorie deficit…yikes… The reason most people put the weight back on after a fat loss phase is because they do it too fast. Guga will likely regain a fair amount of that fat because he went too hard. Instead, a calorie deficit for you at 230lbs should be more around 500-1,000 calorie deficit per day. But you definitely don’t want to do this deficit for 8 straight months. Take it 5-10 pounds at a time then take a break and practice maintaining your new weight for a month or so. It takes your body some time to regulate your hunger and satiety cues to a new body weight, and maintaining a new body weight is frankly not that hard because you get to eat 500-1000 more calories a day compared to when you were dieting. Once you feel mentally and physically ready to lose another 5-10 pounds, then enter another fat loss phase. The secret is slow, steady and consistent, then never regaining the weight. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Better to take 2 years to get to a desired weight that you’ll be able to maintain the rest of your life, rather than take 6 months to get down to it and immediately put the weight right back on again.

Awesome job, Guga. I've also been on a weight loss journey. It's been hard for me because I honestly feel like I am addicted to food. It's like I would have something carb heavy, and then I would just lose all control and eat way too much of it. I tried Keto a few times to no success because my problem was really moderation of carbs. Now, I've been eating fully carnivore for 6 months (with some slip ups like you talked about with your mexican vacation), and I'm down almost 50 pounds and feel better than ever. I finally feel like I'm in control of my eating, and I've been able to really enjoy life much more. I've still got a lot to lose (about 120 lbs), but I now know that I can do it.
