Red is incredibly hard to keep up. But is worth it. NEVER go box again! Get yourself some good color depositing conditioner and shampoo it will help keep your red longer.

My stylist switched to Schwartzcoff (sp?) dye and my red stays so much better. Doesn't fade much at all.

Lisa Mo even if it doesn’t fade as fast, still please don’t use box dye! You have no idea how much ammonia and other chemicals are in it. So please get yourself a real hair dye from sally’s or something.

If you use Henna hair dye, the red colour will last very long. It's extremely permanent on my hair.

This type mentality is what causes people to buy unnecessary clothes often at cheaper prices and at the cost of the labourers and the environment. Red hair fades so quickly because the molecules in red hair dye are actually not small enough to soak into the hair shaft. But because of the nature of red pigments, red tends to stain your hair also, which gives it that coppery orange look after the red is pretty much all gone.

I have had every hair color under the sun and red was the hardest to maintain. Luckily, I had a pixie at that time which made it easier to go longer between washing my hair.

I dyed my hair copper red for 6 years and as you said it fades fast. When I went back to brown it was hard because the red pigments lingered. It took so many hair dye attempts to get rid of it. Though to be fair I was using box dye, so I’m not sure if going to a professional could have fixed it quicker.

ethereal roses Once you colour your hair with henna you have to wait for all the henna to grow out before you can ever use regular colour on your hair again. Something about the chemicals in henna mixing with normal hair dye will literally just melt your hair and it will fall out, so no I do not recommend using henna to colour your hair.
