I’ve never been to Haworth and once I’ve finished my Jane Austen pilgrimages I will finally get to Haworth. We only go abroad once in a blue moon as I love uk travel. Next year is my first time at a Jane Austen festival ( if I get the time off work) and Lyme Regis which will include a trip to greenway (agatha Christie) 2025 is Derbyshire. I’m behind on my ja pilgrimage cos of covid getting in the way but we did do Lincolnshire and stayed at old teigh rectory ( hunsford 1995) for 3 days only but so glad we did it as the wallpapers gone from the sitting room x

I found Villette hard-going and I've a degree in English literature. I really enjoyed The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and also Agnes Grey. Anne Bronte deserves to be much better known as a writer.

I almost chose Wuthering Heights for my English degree seminar paper because I love it so much but ended up choosing The Tenant of Wildfell Hall to give Anne some love. I loved that book-you can see how unshy Anne really was about her thoughts!

Wonderful video! As an Anglophile trapped in the United States videos like this can tide me over until I can finally make the trip myself. Also, sorry you didn’t like ‘Villette’ as much. It takes awhile to get going but I remember it building to quite a powerful and melancholic love story. If you haven’t read “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall,” I’d recommend that one next.

I read Villette as part of a Narcissism in Literature class and it was exactly the book I needed at the time. I was going through growing pains very similar to the main character so I found the book riveting. However, I recognize that that was probably an unusual way to read the book so it is interesting to hear your take! Thanks for this video!

So weird seeing you around Haworth and on the moors because I grew up around there and live just ten minutes away! If you do come again I would recommend a walk up to the stanza stones, there's I think 5-6 sets of them around the area, inspired by the Brontes' influence.

Such a lovely video! I haven't read anything by the Brontë Sisters but I am currently reading the Dutch book Het Lied van Ooievaar en Dromedaris van Anjet Daantje which is a fiction book inspired by the work and live of the sisters and specifically Emily, like a fictional biography if that is a thing based on a lot of research. It is a big book but I am loving it, I am now prosponing reading the last chapter because I don't want it to be over hahah. I would definitely recommend it! (only in Dutch sadly as far as I know)

I'm currently reading Villette to. It's my penultimate Bronte novel, after this I only have The professor left! I really enjoy Lucy snows character, she is so crass and unbending. I can't believe this was written in the 1850´s! I think you would love the Tenant of Wildfell Hall as your next read. I really enjoyed the perspective shift and structure of the book and that the main character is a painter 🎨✨

Hi. This was a really interesting video. I love the Brontes work too. I was interesting to hear your thoughts on the myths and on how loaded a biography can be. Have you read anything of his?
