Japan has over 6,000 islands. Many are losing their populations and becoming abandoned. Ikeshima island is home to an abandoned area the size of a small city. This week in Journey Across Japan we explore this genuinely jaw-dropping island once and for all.

NOTIFICATION SQUAD: Put me out of my misery - who took the best Natsuki postcard? Seriously, Ikeshima is one of the most incredible locations I've ever visited and I hope to revisit soon for another video. BUT sadly, we've got one last episode of Journey Across Japan: The Lost Islands left in the series, so savour this one folks. Though as you can see in the "next up" segment at the end, the finale will certainly be a big one. (ALSO bit of trivia, 06:49 is my favourite shot in the entire series).

Joey could've won an actual award if he'd gotten Natsuki to sit in that roached out chair, hunched over with a cigarette between his fingers, exhaling smoke while he stared at the flower in his other hand and considered it sagely, with the mounds of trash behind him and the sea beyond. All in grayscale, with only the yellow flower as color.

He made Natsuki famous with "Too Much Volcano", Top 14 Alternative Song on Apple Music. I sometimes wonder if Natsuki starts speaking fluent english as soon as the camera is being turned off. It's like every english word he's saying could become his new trademarked catchphrase. If I (a Dutch person) would live in Japan for a while and you'd blindfold me and take me here, I'd probably start crying due to instant home sickness. It's also really great because it shows the quintessential Dutch cultural aspects, rather than showing an ever evolving city with advertisements and modernisation.

My wife and I used to travel to Japan regularly but since this annoying virus showed up, we had to delay our trip over and over again... I already feel kind of homesick because this seems to be the 3rd year without climbing up thr Tokyo Tower -.- However we've started watching your videos some weeks ago and it really helps seeing all these places we used to visit in the past and those we want to visit the next time, whenever it will be possible to travel to Japan for a short time stay... So thanks and keep up the good work! ^^

This is such a good series, and while I completely understand that the amount of work makes it impractical to create annual installments, I hope "Journey Across Japan" remains a part of the channel for a long time to come. Hell, branch it out into other countries if you can! As long as the core dynamic remained the same, I think it would be a massive hit. It's such a fresh and original take on the classic travel show, and shows both Japan and guests of the channel in the best light. Great work from everyone in front and behind the camera!

You guys complaining about the flatness of the Netherlands have obviously never been to Zuid Limburg. The highest part of mainland Netherlands is the Vaalserberg at 322.4 metres. The Vaalserberg was replaced by Mount Scenery, Saba as the highest point in the Netherlands in 2010, after the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles and incorporation of Saba into the Netherlands on 10 October that year. However, Huis ten Bosch looks like a remarkable copy of aspects of Dutch culture and life. Well done Japan.
