I had the exact same issues... I have the same saw and blade, I found that if you hesitate with the cut it gives the tips chance to rub rather than cut, this almost instantly work hardens the stainless, you press on with the cut and it damages/breaks the tips which causes the grabbing, and then the blade then burns its way through the bottom edge of the cut. The blade is about done then.
@mrkonrady22 Жыл бұрын
I switched to band saw for cutting exhaust parts for this reason, though I love using cold cut saw for mild steel and even big profiles, they are no problem for Evolution blades and there are even bigger quality ones. On the topic of bandsaw, I just bought a cheap 100€ saw and heavily modified it basicaly for free to better support stainless bends and so on. I weld my own band saw blades after buying them for 8€ per metre.

If the exhaust is running close to the driveshaft CV it'd be worth making sure you have an on-board hand held extinguisher, or a firestick. Me and a mate have a Mk1 Toyota MR2 tarmac rally car, which had the exhaust routed quite close to the RHS inner CV. The CV boot gave up one day and dumped all the CV grease onto the hot exhaust, which set the car on fire whilst driving on the road. Only realised once we stopped at a set of lights and then saw a lot of smoke coming out of the back of the car. Managed to put the fire out, but I got burns on the side of my head & right ear from trying to get in under the car with the extinguisher to put the fire out. Dunno whether it was heat from the exhaust which weakened the CV boot, or it was just old. I'd hate to see the Mongrel go up in smoke.

Turbos heat air temps so much as long as the intercooler is big enough you will see no gains from a cold air feed, very different to a na engine

LUSH! I have this to do all over again due to the V8 replacing the YB! Using the existing centre to rear section, but due to space constraints I've got the manifolds pointing forwards. The right 2.25" manifold will cross over to the left & merge into the left. Then it's into a 3" section between the block over the x-member snaking down, back then right into the original 3" system! Got v-band clamps, pipes, bends etc, but need to get 1 x 2.25" flexi & 1x 3" flexi. Got the steering done & back onto tin work! Cheers. Leigh.

That came out nice, really need get myself a tig machine . mig'd fair few exhausts but it not quite the same end result. One thing I do on hangers is drill hole in end of bar flush to side of rubber mount and use stainless R clips through the hole, makes nice and secure and easier fitting in awkward spaces . Can't wait see this mapped and here the power of forced induction . Is an absolute cracking track car in looks and ability ...
@BarnacleBilltheSailor Жыл бұрын
Yep, Stainless Steel is some hard stuff to cut and drill. I find the best result is to go slow and not heat it up too much because it gets harder when you heat it. Also cut off disc on a grinder is the best way to cut SS, I think. Never been any good with a carbide tipped blade on SS as the teeth part from the blade and come flying out at you.
@sg3260 Жыл бұрын
Nice work. Few tips, make a few sponge bungs and back purge the welds, yes it will be more expensive but will transform the welding. A longer down slope is better on stainless, maybe 5 secs, although not critical on an exhaust. The foot pedal I'd just use on aluminium, full juice when starting and as the alley gets hotter, lift off as you go for a consistent weld. Just my 2 cents. 265bhp

Try a blade with negative raked teeth. From memory , a negative three degrees against a positive eight degrees on your busted blade. It's a bit slower but much cleaner and shouldn't chip the teeth.

For the cold saw the higher the tooth count the better. You need at least 100 teeth for it to be happy. However I found band saws to be 1000000% better blades last me about 2-3 years.(especially if you use coolant)
