Thanks for being a honest human 😉. It is refreshing that you have addressed this, as a lot of folks find it really hard to give up on sugar. I had given up on refund sugars for nearly a year several years ago. Once I had a taste of it at a birthday party, I just couldnt stop

You are the best! I quite alcohol years ago - no rehab - just decided I wasn't drinking anymore after I had my kids. Easy. I just stopped. But if someone tells me I should stop the sugar and carbs I am rocking in the corner and yelling 'oh yeah?! You can pry them from my cold, dead hands!' It's weird, but there you go. Alcoholics stop and can NEVER touch alcohol again, because just a little takes you right back into the pit. It's kind of easier to quite something when it's wrecking your life and relationships though, isn't it? I mean sugar is just killing me right? It makes my family like me more when I bake them cake! Ok... I'll quit with the weird analogy, but I think there is something in the addiction thing. And quitting sugar is so hard because why the heck would you want to stop eating something so freaking good. Except Dr Fung is telling me it's very bad for me :-( He clearly doesn't eat his emotions! Journalling, punching a pillow, or any of that other stuff just does not hit the spot like a chocolate chip cookie (homemade especially).

love!!! you're not a liar. you're a scientist. 👌🏽 you made a commitment based on what you thought were facts then adjusted it based on new findings. I cannot tell you how many channels I've watched where people out and out LIE about eating well and losing weight or go back to eating whatever when in earlier videos they advocate not doing that and say its their lifestyle then NOT explain their change or weight gain. your honesty is honorable.

Congrats on figuring out some important things about your anxiety, and thank you for sharing! It's very helpful to hear this. Sadly, non-organic wheat is harvested using glyphosate (roundup), so you may actually be responding to that chemical and not the wheat protein. When I eat organic wheat I don't have problems. I think it's important for people to know that there are measurable levels of glyphosate on most of the wheat we eat, and no one is studying what this does to the consumers.

Thank you so much for sharing that. After an elimination diet, I found out I have food sensitivities (gluten, dairy, soy, chickpeas, and egg whites), and I haven't been able to give them up completely (because that's most of my diet..). Even though I have fewer mood swings, fewer headaches, almost no symptoms of IBS, and way more energy, giving up literally all of my staple foods (especially my beloved Korean recipes) feels unsatisfying and a little triggering (because of my history with disordered eating). Hearing you confess that you still enjoy a chocolate chip cookie sometimes knowing that it will trigger your anxiety is so relatable, and I hope that I can learn to manage my own indulgences a little better without totally giving up.

I'm convinced every single person on this planet has been in this boat - not quite following a plan they had set for themselves. No shame in that! How cool that you found your main food triggers. That's not easy! But so great if it gives your diet more flexibility. For myself, I found that some foods cause terrible symptoms in small amounts, while others build up over time and others again are completely fine. For me, sugar is the hardest to give up and because I don't notice it's effects directly but only over time, there's no immediate incentive to keep me away from it... Terrible stuff 😂 Thank you for the update and YAY to having some ice cream again!!! 🤗

Thank you for posting this! You're a hero in my book because I've never even attempted to cut out sugar or gluten or dairy. I don't do a lot of refined sugar - and rarely eat candy, which is my favorite thing in the whole world - but I do use real maple syrup and lots of butter on my sourdough pancakes. I still eat way too many unhealthy carbs (which just turns to sugar, of course), but quitting all 3 of those at the same time was a HUGE leap that I never would have taken myself. Thankfully, I don't have anxiety or mood swings, but I'm in need of losing some pounds, and I still can't stick to a proper heathy diet. Your struggle with whether or not to eat a chocolate chip cookie reminds me of something my lifelong friend would do way back in high school; she has caffeine allergies and that not only means coffee, but chocolate, and she would get canker sores in her mouth if she indulged. She would literally pick up a piece of chocolate, raise her eyes up a little to ponder whether or not it was worth it... sometimes she ate it, sometimes she put it back down. We don't live in the same part of the country anymore, but still keep contact after these 37 years. I wonder if she still does that.... hmm. 🤔

You did not fail. You’re extremely human. I’m 50 and have struggled with sugar forever. I do limit my chocolate by only keeping Dove chocolates at home and no other desserts. If I want chocolate chip cookies then I make paleo chocolate chip cookies with almond flour and honey or maple syrup. Elana’s be Pantry has great recipes for those. I will also go out for dessert. I have something every day. I have to limit my diet due to bladder pain so I have had to cut out lots of foods and it’s sad so honestly I could never give up sugar because it makes me happy. I exercise to keep my weight the same and that’s how I like to live my life.

Ariel I see this as more of a success as you are paying close attention to your body and what its telling you. I watched the other video and you might want to pay attention to the acne link, as dairy could be a contributing factor. Well done on your dietary changes! I am plant based and always struggle with refined sugar myself. I feel better when I eliminate it from my diet but it does tend to wiggle back in. By the way I started my nterest in diet when I was your age, my husband and I heard Dr. Broer on the radio talk about the 3 evil white substances - sugar, salt and flour and we worked on eliminating them, this was back in the 90's when we were first married. We used to drink a lot of soda. Neither of us touch soda anymore, and we are both a lot more mindful of our eating habits although we arent perfect, just a lot better. A big key is keeping trugger foods out of the house, or at least not in view. I put foods I need to avoid in my husbands office so its not easily accessible and we don't keep leftover junk after we host events here. If guests dont take the leftover cake, it goes in the trash bin.

An elimination diet is not supposed to be permanent. It is how you did it remove much and gradually test back. The only bad food is what does that does not work for you. Sugar is not bad, fat is not bad. What is bad are diets, they never work, you have to eat for life and make choices. Some choices are better than others.

So much fun to watch you! I haven’t read all the comments so it may have been mentioned before but if you haven’t already, please consider getting bloodwork for Celiac disease. (Autoimmune disease). My 3 children all got diagnosed 10 years ago. Gluten doesn’t just make you feel bad it actually damages the villi in your small intestine, which can lead to all sorts of havoc in your body. Once you get away from it like you did and then ingest it again your body sees it as something to attack. Your symptoms are exactly what my children experience if they accidentally ingest gluten. Some would say that you don’t need to get tested at this point because you are aware of it’s effects but it is hereditary and now that you have children you would want to know so they could be tested as well. Knowledge is power! Please disregard if you’ve already researched this but maybe it will help someone reading. Celiac disease can be triggered at age 7 days to age 77- it’s a mystery(lots of theories) of what causes the trigger. They will want you to eat gluten again for a short time period before getting blood work done and then if results come back positive they typically do a endoscopy to see what level of damage you have to your small intestine. That’s what my children had to do. Good news is that your small intestine can heal over time being gluten free. I wish you the best in your search to be your best self! And again, encourage you to do some research. Lots of great resources for the gluten free community on social media. Feel free to message me at anytime-😀Have a great day!

Someone once told me that if you trip and start to fall down the stairs you don't give up and just fall all the way down because you know that would cause even more injury. As soon as you can you catch yourself and stand up. Same in dieting with exception foods. If you drink one soda and realize it - stop- don't drink the next 4. It's like falling down one stair or 5. The quicker you stop the less injury and the easier time you'll have finding your balance again. This advice has helped me in many situations.

It's a win when you can figure out the dietary issues. I did Atkins years ago, cold turkey to 20 carbs a day , black coffee and water. It wasn't all bacon and steak, lol. It was hard and the joy of adding back veg was real. I'm no doctor, but I think it reset my system. I slowly added foods back in after about 3 months and was mindful of how much and how it made me feel. Best cholesterol levels in my life. 20 years later I'm far away from that and thinking about doing it again.. but modified.. i know what I'm in for and that is a deterrant in itself. This is a great reminder of going back to food basics then slowly adding in things to see how you react. It's not a fail unless you do nothing about what you can control.

I have trouble quitting delicious food too, but there is one thing that made me stay away from some of them: Cola and other sugary sparkling drinks - I heard about acid used in them, got scared and never ate them again. Cream soups - Once I got stomach pain so bad that I had to go to the doctor, never ate cream soup again. Instant noodles - I ended up in the hospital, so no more instant noodles for me. In conclusion - fear is amazing when it comes to food, altough I know it is not a 100% healthy way of quitting anything.

I have gone off refined sugar now for 2.5 years and mostly gluten as well. I won’t let sugar back in no matter what (I have just found that I have found subs in real food and am strongly enough convinced that I should not partake). Interestingly enough, a couple bites of something with gluten doesn’t affect me that I can tell- but when I’ve had whole meals of it once or twice in a row, I am on the couch with migraines and bellyache. Keep experimenting with your body! Be encouraged. Diet culture is toxic. So is fake food. Both have informed me that two different doctors have said this is a genetic condition. So I have gone gluten free. I have improved but slowly since I have a lifetime of damage caused by not knowing about this disease. I also can look back to my mother and grandmother that had many of the same issues. Now I say to my son and his three siblings, you now know you have the likelihood of this condition. You have a poster child of what your future may look like. So take the caution and prevent this from being your future. Habits are hard to break but not impossible. I have a headache after eating white bread. I tried making some foods with lots of wheat gluten multiple times and had no headache. There are other things in bread besides gluten and I am wondering if it isn’t starch that caused my headaches.

Love the update! It's great when you can figure out exactly what is causing your symptoms! I'm super curious if you'd have the same reaction to Einkorn wheat as standard modern wheat. If you ever try a Jovial Einkorn Pasta or other einkorn wheat product, I'd love to know!

I am gluten free for so many reasons (it's keeping me alive, so there's that) but really, really miss dairy. It has been the source of anxiety for me, so I'm a little jealous, lol. I'm glad you are able to eat other foods to offset the inevitable feeling of deprivation. It wasn't a failed way of eating, it was a successful elimination diet!

I’m so glad you can eat a broader diet now. People forget that food is so social and can be limiting when you can’t join in at certain times. I cut out gluten, dairy, egg, and some fruit and vegetables due to a combination of my own anxiety, gestational diabetes, and my son breastfeeding with allergies. After 2 years I was so ready to reintroduce cheese even if it caused discomfort for a while! Now I only have to avoid oats. Sometimes it feels silly to be “awkward” and not eat them but one serve and my mood drops so fast. My son also outgrew everything but his egg allergy so that’s great. I’m sure your previous video inspired people to try to find their own balance and that’s always a good thing. Oh and I’m so here for the potato month - need me to join in? 😄

I love that your fail brought ice cream back into your life. 💚 Those are fails we can all get behind. Lol We use millet or buckwheat pasta because it was something I really didn’t want to give up. I dream about Todd’s grandma’s Mac n Cheese. Baked in the oven, cheddar wonderland of bliss. Now it would put me in the ER so… strictly dream material. I do make it for Todd and it smells like heaven. I think everyone can eat cheese in heaven. It’s my hope. Another great video. Thank you for all of the work you clearly put into these. Massive talent and skills.

First: I love your videos. You're my favorite mom KZbinr I've ever watched. I agree with everyone else that you are a winner! I bet you got in the habit of eating more fruits and vegetables over this journey which is so amazing. But diets also have to be emotionally satisfying and when you cut out sugar it can actually make you crave it even more then if you had just allowed yourself access the whole time. I once went completely dairy-free when I was breastfeeding my first baby because I convinced myself through internet diagnosis that my baby was allergic to dairy. Then I started restricting soy and eggs and it turned into a full blown spiral. But then I found this dietitian on KZbin named Abby Sharp and I have learned so much about balance and healthy eating. I actually eat a lot more fruits and vegetables and whole grains now.

I love your videos. I don't think you failed as long as you learned more about how to be healthy. Good habits are hard. I don't eat a lot carbs or sugar, but I have a Pepsi problem, I gave up my addiction for almost a year, felt great, then last October I was traveling and had a couple of Pepsi's while driving , and fast forward to march I now drink at least 6 a week... yes I feel like I suck, but I plan on giving it up again.. so I don't call myself a failure yet. Always keep trying to be healthy.

I went through exactly the same journey, several times exactly in my life😅. Not sure its specifically gluten, maybe some other flour treatment that they do add as often results were inconclusive when i had floury products. But overall without them felt much better. So happy to see your video, it reassures me Im not making up all those symptoms. With your openesses and genuity I feel now I trust now your and my findings. Thank you sooooooooo much. Am I okay to say I love you, or is it too much🤣? Anyhow I love your videos. Keep them coming as they give joy and wisdom to many xxx

A few years back I ate chocolate nearly every day. I had icecream regularly and occasionally had condensed milk (essentially all sugar). The way I stopped eating so much was by putting the chocolate into a bowl with a lid right next to my pc monitor and only buying 1 type of icecream (2 litres). I could see it every day and knew the chocolate was there but after a while I didn't want to eat it every day and eventually I didn't eat it until it was a holiday or my birthday and I rarely and only bought it around those times. I got sick of the same type of icecream after a while, didn't like eating it that much anymore and buying it less and less. But I still occasionally eat condensed milk with a spoon and a few of them make me sick because my body unlearns to tolerate giant amounts of sugar. Hiding it won't help just as completely cutting it out won't either. It's a slow process and you can't take shortcuts, I'm sorry. Try small steps like eating only one piece of chocolate every day and so on. Slowly lowering the levels of sugar your body thinks of as normal. Your tastebuds will adjust over time.

Tip: Lily's chocolate and Rebel ice cream It's sugar free! Also, I really like the Trim Healthy Mama sweetners. It means I can have chocolate anything I want as long as I feel like making it! Also, you don't need to cut out dairy unless you have become lactose intolerant, in which case I recommend getting some kefir grains and learning how to that because those bugs will help you digest the lactose!

I'm lactose intolerant, celiac, and allergic to all vegetable oil! I'm also not able to process any factory-made sugars (the sugar in fruit is fine) my rule of thumb is if it's a premade ready-to-eat food in a package it's a no go, so like 75% of the contents of most commercial grocery stores 🤣

I understand what you're going through. I recently figured out that I can't have dairy. Sucks. Big time. I can have hard cheeses, cream cheese and yogurt. No milk, no soft cheese, no sour cream, no ricotta, no ice cream, no chocolate, no cottage cheese and I have to be careful of processed foods cause they add whey to them (which is what causes me to puff up like a tick on Dracula). It's hard to give up food that you love. I screw up constantly and pay the price by feeling like crap for a week. But we got this. WE CAN DO THIS!!! I believe in us. 😘

My older sister is gluten free she told me to eat Chick Pea pasta it also doesn't spike your blood sugar. Target and Aldi has it. She gave me some I thought hers was really good. I didn't follow the package instructions and mine turned into a mess, maybe it has more to do with my questionable cooking skills. Crochet and Loom Knitting is a great activity to do with your hand while you watch TV once you get the hang of it it's easy to pay attention to what is going on in the show. Knit loom is easier than crochet. Good Knit Kisses KZbin channel can teach you how to do it all. Crochet Crowd is one of my favorite. I hope to get some of my own videos up on how to crochet this year as well.

You didn't lie, you just didn't know. It's all good. As someone with allergies to dairy and wheat, I still struggle. I've been letting myself have some milk chocolate for Easter and even hives and insomnia won't stop me (though it'll probably help me not want to do it very often). Without physical symptoms, I probably wouldn't limit myself honestly. Glad you found what works for you!

'Extreme' things are only meant to be for a limited time period - not regular life. :) Essentially, you did the elimination diet, I think? Where you eat very limited for a while (to go 'back to factory settings' so to speak). And then you slowly re-introduce one food group at a time to see how you react to it. But super fascinating that intolerance can cause anxiety; I knew it could affect people, but not to that degree.

Great video. You’re so funny & your expressions etc make me lol. 😀 I can’t do healthy eating anymore, as I suffer from Gastroparesis/slow stomach emptying & can’t manage fruit & veggies. I mainly live on cheese, Haribos, salted caramel fudge & chocolate. It’s not the healthiest but I can’t worry about that now.

I have found that I am sensitive to MSG and can't eat anything fast food. I make all my food. I'm doing loose keto right now and am wondering how healthy all that fat can be for me. I'm thinking of going mostly plant based and very little meat. Cancer runs in my family and I'm trying to keep it away. I don't think you failed on the contrary, you eliminated what was making you sick. I'd say that was a win. Good video. 😃

Lol, hilarious vid! And I totally relate. Btw a lot of people heal their gut through that kind of elimination, and re-introducing the foods back after 2 yrs or so, often will work great! Other ideas are to try different types, for ex my aunt can eat sourdough bread if it was properly fermented, but can’t eat normal bread. :) I guess the fermentation starts digesting the gluten for you so it doesn’t stress your body to eat it.

Great news!!! If it's just gluten you're cutting and not carbs in general, rice pasta is really good. If you have a Costco membership they sell packs of ramen patties (just 12 patties of noodles, no powders or anything) that I've been using to try to cook gluten free (I've kind of given up temporarily in the tortilla area though, GF tortillas are SO expensive!) There's also a lady in Idaho that bakes GF versions of pretty much any bread product you can think of, and they look, feel, taste, and smell like their gluten full counterparts. My husband's parents and sister are gluten free so I get a lot of tips from them.
