As a 62 yr old Flybaby, I appreciate the younger generations giving her credit. I totally agree with the overwhelming website but it did lead me out of chaos over 20 hrs ago. When my house gets overwhelming, I go back to my routines. Her holiday tips are great too!! The app is great for people that like to check off a list each day too!! I love your channel and I'm glad you are out here helping young (and old) moms get through life with a smile and more simple lifestyle. Blessings to you!! ❤

Flylady has a special place in my heart. I found her at a time when my life was insane. Thanks to some principles I learned through her, I completed my degree while working full time, commuting an hour each way to my full time job, taking care of three children and a sick husband. My house was no longer overwhelming, and meals were cooked regularly. Things got cleaned and put away. Bills got paid. Permissions slips were signed. The kids had lunch money in their accounts. All of the above were strange new concepts for me, and I didn't really think I could do it. I'm looking around at my messy house right now and thinking I need to go get myself a booster of motivation and pick this place up. I will feel better.

I found Flylady when I was a single working mum who worked shift work and studied at the same time. My time was precious and at first I never thought I had enough time. I’m not a natural housekeeper at all, so finding the flylady helped me learn these routines so much. And as a shift working single mum I had to really make it work for me. I won’t lie and say I stuck to it straight up because that’s not what happened at all. I started and stopped and started again several times but what really helped was making sure I took care of myself first. Making my bed and doing my dishes so my sink is clean and clear was a great start - making sure my dining table (we eat as a family) is always clean and clear makes a difference. Starting small helped. Game changer has been Dana K White’s decluttering concept of this space is not infinite and only holds a certain amount of items. I use my timer all the time for literally everything and my kids now use the timer and funnily enough every time they do things with the timer they aren’t far off from completing their task in that time frame 🎉

I know I’m not your main audience but as a single girl who works, lives alone and has to struggle with grief/depression, learning about Flylady’s home blessing from you has been a total… well, blessing. My home has been more company-ready-by-default than it has ever been so thankyou for that! It’s also just such a wonderful system for modifying to the tasks that will make the most difference to you, so mine might be more like 90 minutes but I took out the hotspot and general papers slots and replaced it with a 10 minutes ‘pick up all the stuff and either put it home or in a chaos basket’ and and 10 minutes of ‘take all the stuff in your chaos baskets to where they should actually go’ and it has been game changing, as well as adding stuff like watering the plants and making sure I’m not creating any new civilisations in my fridge. Being able to learn about so many different systems from you has been so helpful in letting me put together stuff that works for my needs too. Also congratulations on the dishwasher! I hope it makes your life easier!

Before FlyLady I felt paralyzed by my “perfection”. I felt I didn’t have enough time to clean things the way they needed to be cleaned, so I didn’t clean at all. With FlyLady timer system I realized you can do a lot in 15 minutes. And anti procrastination day was life changing too.

@HereIAm247

Yes, I think this is the key to her method actually. :) When you clean 'properly', you spend more time and energy on getting it perfect - and you feel like it will take a long time, and be hard to do. This drains you already before you have started the task, so sometimes you never get started. If you have a set limit, you know how long it will take, that there will be a huge improvement (even if it is not perfect), and it makes it much easier to get started. :)

Honestly Flylady has changed my life. I truly had the "can't have anyone over" syndrome that another commenter mentioned until I followed Flylady's system. That being said, I wouldn't have gotten through the hot mess that is Flylady's website and (omg) EMAILS (!!!) without happening upon YOUR channel. You laid the steps all out for me and made them easy to follow. Once I had the steps down, I customized everything to fit me. For example, due to my work schedule a Monday Home Blessing doesn't work for me, but a Tuesday Home Blessing does (and a quick 1/2 Blessing again on Friday). My house, car and life have never been cleaner or more organized. I invite people over. I'm no longer terrified of them just dropping in. Thank you Awkward Mom for your help in getting to this point. Hugs.

This was definitely informative! I started using the FlyLady system in 2004, and although my babies had left the nest, I was still a working wife/mom. Lots of her routines are things I do daily anyway: Get dressed to shoes; drink your water; take your meds; make the bed; eat breakfast. I started a load of laundry before I left for work, put in the dryer when I got home. Now that I’m retired, I no longer do a load every day; all laundry is done on Tuesdays and Fridays. Thank you so much for the side by side comparisons you do!

The vid you did about a year (or more) ago where you broke down the steps & zones & explained the system to us was super helpful, and that's what got me started. Although, I do a modified version. Where one day is just for laundry. I agree with you & Dana K White. A load a day means laundry never goes away. So, I have a laundry day, where that is my sole focus, and it works for me very well. I love that you are getting the names of different cleaning routine out here, because it can encourage others to try SOMETHING!!! It does feels better to have a clean home. Thanks! After doing two sets of the 31 day THE MINIMALIST CHALLENGE, I found The Fly Lady cleaning routine. I was too excited for a cleaning routine. Even after navigating the website, I found myself feeling like I was studying a curriculum just to clean. The fact the one room is not completely clean after a day was not satisfying to me. Vacuum the entire house, dust the whole house. I like to see completed results or mostly completed. Next, I found TOMM. A few minutes a day and one room a day outside the 15 daily tasks. Plus with TOMM no Saturdays or Sundays.

Yup! Me too! I've tweaked TOMM so much to fit my house needs, that I even set weeks 4 and 8 as House Rest weeks. Each Day of that week, I picked the most important Oeve 2 or Level 3 tasks, whether it's catching up on s9me missed areas, maybe doing a whole area that got missed the week before, a miscellaneous area, or even taken a much-needed break aside from level 1's. So once a month, my house gets a little reset at the end of the month.

As a working mom, I prioritize Flylady's daily routines and weekly plan. Especially Plan and Play, and the Weekly Home Blessing. I just have to be super flexible. Sometimes I can finish those tasks during the week. Other times they happen on the weekend. Zone cleaning is my lowest priority. Sometimes I skip it, other times I fit in 2 or so 15 min sessions in the week and it still makes a huge difference. Perfectionism is my biggest enemy as a mom who works outside of the home. Nothing is every close to perfect, but I find doing even 50% of the Flylady system in a hectic week can really reduce my stess levels (Plan meals, do 5 min blessing tasks, swish and swipe three times, it all adds up).

I like flyladys bathroom routine bc the tub is hard for me but if i wipe it down while im there, its less work and easier on my body. I just use cleaners that wont burn my feet if im standing in it, like mrs meyers bakingsoda cream cleaner. Once or twice a month i scrub the tub out with the pink stuff bathroom cleaner spray bc we get conditioner build up due to my daughters waist length, thick hair. Also, id like to recommend the pink stuff dish spray. It melts everything off in seconds and shines your sink. Its a little better than dawn powerwash. Planning to try it out cleaning the refrigerator and microwave this week.💜

Actually I think I started with flylady’s mentors the sidetracked home executives about 40 years ago. I’ve tweaked my routines many times as my life has changed. I do like that flylady acknowledges that there are things other than cleaning that need to be done. Thing like paying bills, shopping & appointments, cleaning out your car, and such. I think it’s important to start with the very basics - dishes, bed, laundry, tidy and bathroom and then build from there. Pull in what works and leave what doesn’t behind.

Agree with this evaluation! I have found FL so much harder to keep up with fully since returning to (office) work (even SUPER PT) in January. But what I love most about FL is that when I do have time, I have a specific place to start. It’s Thursday, June 1, and I have the time and motivation for thirty minutes’ work? -dishes -order groceries for pickup or delivery -sweep a porch and reset the space, or clear my dining room table* I don’t have an entrance or much in the way of halls in my home, so made it porches and DR instead. :)

First of all - LOVE your videos, thank you for keeping the content fun and informative and relatable. You are so creative and I look forward to your videos. I agree with you about the "working mom" round. I tested out organized mum, fly lady and clean mama all while I was strictly a stay at home mom. As soon as I got my fly lady routine down, and customized it, a few weeks later I started working (remotely from home) and thought "this will be a piece of cake." Well jokes on me. Its not impossible, I just have to make changes to the routine, but keeping up with my fly lady routine is not a piece of cake. Since I learned it when I had more time to focus on the home, I can lean on it. But if I hadn't learned it first, I would be avoiding it like a plague. Also, I underestimated working remotely. I think the app helped tremendously when trying to get everything done but also work full time. Thanks again for this video and all you content!

I did FlyLady for years, and I could never, ever finish the baby steps or keep up with all the routines she wanted me to do. I did not feel right, and I was overwhelmed. With the deep cleaning, I always felt the rest of my house was in disarray. Even with the weekly home blessing. I always fell off the wagon and parts of my house were never cleaned. With TOMM I had the same problem. Until I found out about her Patreon. She tells me what to clean and keeps me company. I know it costs money, but my house is clean or clean within 15 minutes (flylady thing). Flylady had a similar thing with a chaos clean and a weekly homeblessing. But TOMM has is for everything you can imagine. fold laundry, doing paperwork, clean the kitchen after dinner in different versions, etc. And if she doesn't have that specific task, she will make it. That is why at this moment in my life I think the organized mom is the best. Just add. About the time. I spent so much time on Flylady a day. At least an hour with daily jobs and zone cleaning and then an hour for the daily tasks. With TOMM I am done in 45 min. Including the laundry. As I finish this video. I think it is personal to what works for you. I love the organized mom. And I am no longer a flybaby.

I agree FlyLady can seem overwhelming at times; I have done if off and on myself over the years! Part of what I loved about her was setting the timer for a task. It kept me focused and I had a sense of completion once done. I need to start doing it again!

Great job! Very enjoyable and informative video. I tried the flay lady, and loved her app, yet I felt I needed to watch videos so I can follow it correctly. I got tired of the system as I felt I wanted to make many customizations. I am intrigued to use the organized mom routine... loved the printables

I’ve now developed my own routine, which works wonders for me, but I couldn’t have done it without first discovering Flylady. I struggle with perfectionism and used to clean for hours every day. I meticulously wiped my baseboards and the walls of my bathroom every week. Mopped the floors every day. Washed the windows twice a month. Very unhealthy, even for someone who enjoys cleaning. Flylady taught me that there’s more to life than cleaning and that there’s a sweet spot, where the house feels tidy and clean can be reached well within an hour a day (including dishes and laundry, what?!), that you’ll reach if you embrace good enough. So many people have tried to teach me good enough, but no one has succeeded like Flylady. It’s spilled over into other areas of my life too, and I’m so so so grateful.

FlyLady has really changed my perspective on housekeeping. Before I would put off tasks when I knew I didn’t have time to do them perfectly. This really just translated to it not getting done. Her principle of imperfect housekeeping still being a blessing to your family has really changed my life. Now I just do the tasks, do what I can do, and it will look better whether it’s done perfectly or not. Dana K White is the other gal who has changed my life the most. Her decluttering advice and focus on basics is so helpful.

AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!! So informative. I haven’t really given Flylady a full chance because it’s very overwhelming for me. I do like The Organised Mom. I’m an all or nothing type of person so I felt like the 15 minute timers of Flylady gave me a bit of anxiety lol. I much rather spending a couple hours cleaning one day than to do small 15 minutes. But you have given me the push to truly give Flylady a go. Thanks for your super helpful video, of course with complete honesty as a busy mom!!!!!!! ❤❤

I love that you do these comparisons. As a part time working mom who used to be a stay at home mom, I feel that’s the best time to implement Flylady too. Or perhaps when you’re on maternity leave if you’re able to be home with the baby for three months. My aunt has been using Flylady for over thirty years now and I see the good it does. I don’t have a routine myself, but with two school aged kids and too much stuff, I am spending my summer off decluttering and hopefully starting a routine before work starts up In September. I love your channel, Ariel!! ❤

I've formulated my own daily (morning and evening) routines based on FlyLady, and a version of her Weekly Blessing. The one thing I cannot get to grips with is the deeper zone cleaning. I tend to do the more occasional deeper cleaning when I have the energy and inclination, or if someone's coming to visit! I do clean my bathrooms and kitchen regularly, though. And I'm a huge fan of the power of the 5 or 10 minute pick-up. Just set a timer and rush around like a thing possessed tidying a room. Great motivator.

That is the great thing about flylady; you can always costumize it to fit your needs. :) What is it about zone cleaning that is stopping you? If you don't mind me asking. I also got stuck with it for a while. But you can try to mix it up a little. Sometimes, I use it on decluttering instead of deep cleaning - one shelf/drawer/cabinet at a time. I do what is the most needed, and use the list as inspiration if I can't figure out what needs to be done. There is almost always something glaring you in the face, lol. :) I also play with the time I spend in each zone. Sometimes, I take a different zone every day, instead of spending a full week there. Other times, a few days per zone, but not a full week. Maybe it could help you, maybe not. :) But for me, it helps keep the routine a bit more interesting, and adapt to the state of the house more.
@supergran1000
@supergran1000 Жыл бұрын
@@HereIAm247 I think it's because the daily and weekly routines are sufficient by themselves to keep my home reasonably presentable. I concentrate on cleaning my kitchen and bathrooms which I think need more attention than, say, the bedrooms. I also prefer to do the deep cleaning by task rather than room. To give an example: I have wooden blinds in the lounge and bedrooms. When I clean them (which isn't as often as I should!), I would rather clean them ALL in one go, together with cleaning the insides of the windows. It means I have momentum and "flow". Also, when I've got my telescopic duster in my hand, I'll go around all the house with it, dusting the lights and remove cobwebs from the corners. Does that make sense? Like you, I'm really into decluttering following a fairly recent move. I'm getting on in years, and decluttering to benefit my children after my death is a priority. Mind you, I'm hoping that time is a good way off! Lol. Doing it now while I still have the energy!
@HereIAm247
@HereIAm247 Жыл бұрын
@@supergran1000 Makes total sense! :) And yes, I also find that the daily routines keeps the house pretty good in busy times. I know going by task instead of room is not full flylady - but if you want to do "zone cleaning"/deep cleaning, why not just do it by task instead of room? The point is to do what works for you. :) You can always use the tasks on her lists as inspiration if you want, or create your own list. And stick to the 15 min time limit. For me, the room focus does help with 'focusing' the cleaning. (because the home blessing still takes care of the basic clean) But what we prefer can be so different from person to person.

Fly Lady always seemed less overwhelming,but I agree about the website. It could be laid out better. I'm a working Mom,I just adjusted things a bit. I also load the washer at night & set it to start an hour before I get up so that it goes into dryer in the am before workday starts .

I love the flylady routine but do you feel like your entire day is prioritized to clean? I think her routine keeps my house looking great but at some point I feel like I sort of start obsessing. Mostly I’ve found that maintain the weekly home blessing and morning routine keeps me sane with having 3 small children but I still struggle finding time to do all of the other parts of her routine.
@edennis8578
@edennis8578 Жыл бұрын
The point of the Flylady system is that your day ISN'T prioritized to clean. In short, it's a 15 minute morning routine, a fifteen minute evening routine, a fifteen minute period cleaning in one zone, and a Weekly Home Blessing, which can be broken up into 10-minute segments. It's the shortest cleaning system possible.
