He wrote this song in one day and Nova shot it that evening with the last 4 batteries they owned. Then he borrowed money from Brandon Hart and a few others so that he could afford the KZbin ad. When I was in high school I usually would disappear into musicals. After High School it was Sevendust and misfits for a quick minute. Next stage of life, Pearl Jam and the doors. Then went numb for a while and it was just whatever Rock / pop came on. Came back into focus with Christian rock. 2 years ago found Tom. Back in the day Rappers had something to say. Yea some was about drugs and such but most were stories, stories from the hood. I grew up in the hood and I appreciated the realness. Like Brenda had a Baby, was a REAL story. Tupac didn't just pull that out of thin air. Now we have hundreds if rappers that all sound the same. They all used to have their own sound and we loved them for it. Now it's the same shit with a different name. Tom broke us free from that. HOG forever!

He has said he spent years trying to rap about what appears to be the stuff getting radio play, trying to get that break. And finally he said fuck it. He put this out from sheer desperation and frustration at not being able to crack the "code". And, he blew up. Thats how he found his voice and his market. Mine was Limp Bizkit, my daughter was always listening to Eminem. Her mom and I were a fan of his so she heard him a lot when she was a little kid, when things got hard she turned to his music.
