The bureaucracy is a major drain on accountability, innovation, and financial prudence. As well as having far too many managers, consultants, advisors, this governance model is resistant to ratepayer input. These people naturally act on self interest. The longer the process, the greater their income. They will pretend to "consult", introduce amendments, and/or raise health and safety quibbles to stretch out a project. In the public sector, there is no profit/loss incentive - instead there is a steady increase in rates and fees. People are sick of this extortion but the councilors seem to have little control over their organization.

Spot on. How many times do we see this BS throughout the country.

Exactly, well said. The whole thing is a grift and the ratepayer foots the bill.

Hey Phil, why do the CCC require the upload of a vaccine pass to apply for a swim teacher position? Aren't we past that by now? No extra $$ required for myself since I've taught swimming for nearly 3 years before being let go because I chose natural immunity over spike protein. Is this not still a "con" after the scientific results and problems have been revealed since... have you seen VAERS yet?

Phil Mauger, please get rid of all the cycle lanes in the CBD and Bus lanes on Manchester st. First time back in Christchurch for 20 years and could not find a short term car park on Colombo st or any of the side streets for a 15 min pick up. What has happened to Christchurch?

Greed my bro avoid the CBD shop only where they have free parking matey.
@sp4nrs24 күн бұрын
There are heaps of car parks in town, are you annoyed they weren’t free, or that there aren’t any? Because the latter isn’t true.

Hi Chris you are doing a great job in keeping the ccc honest mate..thank you..with the holiday season approaching it's hard to believe there is still only one functioning toilet drop facility for campervans in Chch /BP Marshlands..queues are an everyday occurrence atm and it's only going to get worse..I know the councillors are busy with important stuff like giving BB Netinyahu sleepless nites over the purchases ban..id hate to think what alternatives people will take to avoid the poo queue!

Too many pet projects in council they need to stick to basics not these carbon zero fantasies, it’s a nightmare trying to navigate the CBD by car with cycle lanes and pedestrian crossings everywhere and of course traffic lights every 100 meters it’s ridiculous !

Is it true the council is going to write off the new pool, collect insurance because they can’t stop it leaking due to it being built on a aquifer?

As a Nelsonian who loves to visit Christchurch i'm dissapointed with all the cycleways and speed bumps everywhere,what a shame after all the positive stuff and hard work that went into the rebuild.I'll visit less in the future and actively avoid the CBD.🇳🇿🙁

I guess the city is built for locals, not tourists. If you ride to work every day the bike lanes are awesome.

I'm building a house at present. The 'agreed' price is $$$. No more, no less. There won't be a 'budget blowout' simply because there is no one else to pay for it.....

Stop raising our bloody rates, times are hard enough as it is without local govt taking a bigger slice of what little we have, if you keep doing it then your days in that job are numbered.

Got the pool being built, a new otago institute, a stadium in the heart of the city which is just ridiculous can not imagine the congestion of commuters once complete they want to rebuild New Brighton i can not keep up 😂😂😂
@alliejones986425 күн бұрын
Why don’t they build many of these things in stages, that way at least it can earn some of its keep and not be such a burden.

Re Cranford Street: There's plenty of data from overseas how effective car lanes and bus lanes are. The speed of car traffic is mainly determined by public transport alternatives, especially is such a corridor that channels commuters into a city. By the way, locals preferred a bus lanes; it was people from Waimakariri who preferred the clearway. Most oral submitters spoke strongly in favour a bus lane. I myself submitted for a bus lane, because I can see the facts.

This is so frustrating! Why are these projects not priced correctly in the beginning by a competent professional. It just feels like they do it intentionally. The loss of the museum to the people of Christchurch is tremendous and there are children that are losing out on the enjoyment with no museum for 5 years (probably longer by the sounds of it). It just smacks of incompetence and lack of planning/foresight!
