最初の訳は直訳すると合ってますが、in one's shoesで誰かの立場（in my shoes で私の立場）になるので意味合いとしては、「私の立場（状況）にあなたを縛り付けることができたらなあ。」になります。 サビのラストのBe in a position〜で言い換えています。
