Really appreciate the sincere reflection in this video. I always struggle deciding on what’s a “reasonable” price to spend on clothing. This brings up some great points and I hope you continue to enjoy your grail/future collections!

Thanks! Pricing is a hard one too - it's tempting to spend over the odds on some stuff out of desperation for a particular item that you really want, but if anything that only makes any potential underwhelming feeling worse

So glad you got this for yourself! I think a lot of us can relate to both this grailed-purchase high, and then the low. On the subject of branding and PR, and us subsequently liking it or not, I think it's about intention in the product. I buy some high-end stuff when I find things I like, and it is almost never motivated by functionality like teachwear. But it's like a tap on the cheek, I think, in that if it was meant as a slap, the one providing it hits harder, it's offensive, we're offended, but if it was meant as a caress, same motion, but softer, we like it. It's the thought that counts.

Liking the philosophical approach. The hunt is what keeps you addicted. I remember buying my first couple of grail pieces and being super happy, feeling like a rockstar when wearing them... but at a certain moment it doesn't feel as special anymore. Then you start looking at even more exclusive and/or expensive items. I would personally take these factors in consideration; 1 can I afford it? 2 do I need it? 3 how versatile is it?

I enjoy every video you put out Antwon, but this one… perfection. How to move on from that?! Much like moving on from copping a grail?! Thankfully, you will… we all will. Seriously enjoyed the philosophy behind purchasing an item long sought after. It’s a reflection we rarely hear spoken and for those of us who both love material items AND have souls, it’s refreshing and comforting to know these are feelings and honest conflicts others have as well! Cheers, mate- long time watcher, first time commenter! Carry on!

Personally I don't see anything wrong with spending a lot on something you want to have, it's a consumer world after all. Recently I got the Acronym x Air Presto Mid Racer Pink off of GOAT, cause I've wanted those for years and the only thing that was stopping me was they were around 400 euro new. It may not sound that much, but sadly Im in Bulgaria where we don't work with euros, so for me it was 850bgn without shipping on a 1.3k paycheck. Things finally are sorta working out for me, so saved up for 2 months, forked up the grand total of 1.25k bgn (620-630euro) with shipping + imort fees and tbh I don't regret it at all, if anything it actually showed me that sometimes showing some patience can still work out at the end, cause I didn't rush to get them when it would have put me financially in a tight spot.

There's something ICONIC about these jackets... YOU know what you're wearing even if others are oblivious... Now with covid still upon us one just needs to get the heather gray reflective balaclava - the one from those Carlos Serrao videos. Then just add the lupinek flyknit chukkas and then the ACG responder backpack and then the... Stay Safe!!!

I really appreciate the video and especially the thoughts at the end. While looking for approval and positive feedback is a totally understandable reason I as a newbie in techwear fashion have always seen thisfocus on certain hyped pieces very critical. Techwear seems to have reached a point where a big lot of people wear the same items with minimal differences to each others fits because they know that these are "THE items" that will get the most positive feedback. I really wish there would be more ersonality shown and individuality expressed in the fits. We all should be more open-minded and be constantly on the search for new technical advances - that is what makes the difference between techwear and hype-focused mainstream fast fashion.

great video, it was really relatable through and through. when I bought my grail jacket a few months ago, I had pretty similar thoughts and philosophical questions coming up after the purchase. But sometimes it is better to detach oneself from this consoomer mindset and appreciate that in the end it is just a cool jacket, that is what really matters :)

I think it's worth pointing out that Goretex, or any waterproof jacket, needs re-proofing at least once every year. Two reasons, obviously it maintains the waterproof element, the other lesser known reason, it stops dirt and grime working its way into the material. Nice review.

@@gxuum Wash and apply heat. Wash it on low temperature if it needs a wash, then airdry, then throw it in dryer for 20 minutes at a low temperature (aprox. 60°C). If it doesn't need a wash, just do the dryer step. If you don't have a dryer, use a warm (!) iron with a towel between the iron and the Goretex. That's it. Proofing always sounds way more intimidating than it actually is.

One of the funniest "techwear IRL" moments I've experienced was last January when I got the exact jacket this video is about. I was super excited, and wore it to the grocery store on a trip with a friend. I literally ran into someone wearing THIS EXACT JACKET at 6:42. We saw each other but I felt so awkward I'm pretty sure I went to a different aisle.

Great video, really liked the honest reflection on this one! Surprisingly, today I have read about the "Hedonic adaptation prevention theory" during my psychology studies. Maybe take a look at it, it describes how we are able to continuously draw satisfaction from such "grails", or things in life generally. It really puts a positive note on this topic. As I said in my own comment, I collect Transformers figures / toys. Some of the rare ones like convention exclusives or Japanese only releases run into hundreds of quid. Sometimes I'll track one down that I really want, for example a DVD Micron Densetsu, pay the late-to-the-party tax, wait for it to come from halfway across the world... and when it arrives, it sits on a shelf with the dozens of other figures. I'm just paying someone three or sometimes more what they paid for the vanity of having an item that nobody else will really care about.

I'm gonna say this before I even watch the video. If it's your grail jacket, your personal grail, then it's worth it. My grail would be my rhinestone Balenciaga jacket. I've never regretted it, because it was my personal grail. Buying your grail is a happy occasion and I hope no one has ever had to feel "was it worth it?" self-doubt after being able to get whatever it was that they consider their grail.
@ElementalLeaf
@ElementalLeaf 2 жыл бұрын
Now that I watched the video the only thing I have to add is trying to look for justifications, inherently, means you're also looking at why it's not justified (aka price, or how similar it is to other products you might own, or if its necessary to have) and in doing so you can give yourself buyer's remorse. Which is sad. It was a grail purchase. I don't think it's necessary to try to quantify or justify it. Whenever I look at my jacket, I remember the feeling of it finally arriving, at me finally owning it, and how happy I was. And remembering that feeling makes me happy all over again. I don't need to quantify or justify it -- just be happy in having it, my grail jacket.
