Apparently for a carp to be a mirror carp, it depends on two traits being recessive. This means it’s would be roughly a 6.3% chance of a carp being a mirror carp. For anyone that did Punnett squares in bio class, that would make a mirror carp an “aabb” allele combination.

One thing about going fishing out of state somewhere, it's always nice to get back to your home waters. Especially when the fishing is as good as it is in your area. But sometimes it's the reverse for me, go to Saskatchewan and catch huge pike and lake trout until your arms fall off, it's tough to come back to reality. Anyway good video as always, and I like longer vids, they are a nice break from all the crazy stuff going on, as fishing is itself. Thanks and take care.

Also I would highly advise you research “butterfly carp” it’s common in koi but in the wild you can find even more rare common butterfly carp. I’ve personally witnessed one caught in Milwaukee and was shown clear photo proof of a second one cause from a different spot. They’re the true unicorn in comparison to mirrors.

I have caught them in the creeks where I live, I believe they are their own species of carp. The Indiana DNR book lists them as a species. The ones I've caught only had scales down the back and around the fins but silver skin like catfish on the sides.

I also caught my first mirror carp this summer. The first one was a fully scaled mirror it had massive scales all over its body but it was pretty small like 2 pounds. Then a week later I caught another one at the same spot and it was a good 8 to 10 pounds. I was waaaaay too excited to be catching a carp but it was a "new" species you gotta be hype

I was born and raised in England and live in the us now and love to see americans carp fishing or liking the fact that they caught a carp lol. I'm not sure but I'm preety sure that is a fully scaled mirror carp which are actually alot more rare then regular mirror carp. Don't take my word for it but over my life I've probably caught over 100 200 carp and I'm almost definitely sure it's a fully scaled mirror. Beautiful fish none the less and I hope more americans realise how fun it is the catch these beautiful fish that can come in so many different colors and shapes.

Yeah their cool to look at though, mirror carp, I caught one out of a gravel pit in Poast town, Ohio, that one went right at 20 lbs and then my Uncle, who I was with that day, caught one without any scales at all, he was calling it a leather carp, I really didn’t know what the hell to call it, all I know is it was a carp, and it was about the same size as the one I caught! But as with most gravel pits I been too, they’ve all been known to grow big fish, I don’t know what it is in that water that makes fish grow big but I ain’t complaining! Good catch there Stache!

Nice Carp. We would call it a 'fully scaled' Mirror Carp in the UK (screw Europe) You also get 'Linear' Mirror Carp (line of big scales running down the lateral line) and Leather Carp (no scales at all). So a few more to add to catch list maybe? Love the fact that although they are an Invasive species, you treat them fairly well and return them. If i was being picky I would argue that a landing net and unhooking mat would be ideal, but im pleased they get returned. Carp do offer great sport, a bent rod a screaming reel and a dogged fight. When you start hauling 20lb+ fish things get really hectic. Love your vids, keep em coming. Wishing you tight lines from the Uk ✌
