I've always been a fan of Tylers. I first tried one at a shop in L.A. around 1989, but never owned one. I like the idea of using active electronics with passive pickups. You get the best of both worlds that way.

big fan of the James Tyler guitars, but man are they hefty on price. Have to admit, when you lifted your glasses to check the number of layers on the pickguard, i got a chuckle out of that... i have to do the same thing when stuff gets up close. beautiful guitar, as always, excellent playing and review.

Congratulations Jon!: It is a fine looking guitar. Great choice on the colors. Only you could make it sing like an angel ! You got STYLE. As for me, I just bought 2 Squier Affinity Stratocasters to Mod and upgrade! Both in Black too and maple necks! - It´s nothing compared to the James Tyler you have , but I still love my cheap guitars to mod. One has been upgraded with a Fender TEX-Mex SSS Pre-wired Black Pickguard and the other has been upgraded also with a Fender Tex-Mex Pre-wired Black Pickguard but I changed from a SSS pickup-type to an HSS with an EVH-Wolfgang Special Humbucker. One has a Vega-Trem tremolo and the other will have a Floyd-Rose Trem system. It is all a perfect fit, because Squier Affinity Strats can also use Fender parts and other Tremolo systems.
