I Finally Fixed our Polaris Ranger Hot Start Issue!

In this video, I diagnose our 2012 Polaris Ranger 800 with a problem of having not enough fuel pressure due to a weak fuel pump, coupled with a design flaw by Polaris that causes a vapor lock condition. When the Ranger would get to operating temperature and then you turn the engine off, it would not restart unless you waited roughly 15 minutes.
The procedure to replace and test fuel pumps in other side by sides and ATV's should be very similar to the processes I used in this video and the fuel pressure test kit in the link below should work with most other models as well.

I have this same issue on a 2017. Mine doesn’t turn over though, does yours? I have had it in twice and they seem to be stumped. If yours doesn’t turn over, then this may be the ticket for me?

Hint, in the future try tighten the cap a little more. In order to break the seal on the cap and then loosen the cap for easier removal.

I had the same problem went through the same issue dealer not any help found out you need to replace the fuel pump and regulator inside the tank after that I’ve had no problems since…

Fyi the torque for the fuel pump retainer nut is approx. 75 ft.lbs. They do make a special tool that goes over the nut to tighten and torque it but at the very least you should try get it at least as tight as it was when you removed it as that was likely factory spec! They are prone to leak otherwise and you DONT want that under the seat next to the exhaust. Good job otherwise! 27 year Polaris mechanic. 😉👍

Crazy you can’t buy the fuel pump by itself.

So true! A lot of the Polaris models only sell the whole fuel tank as an assembly. Sometimes upwards of $700!
