It's been a LONG time and well overdue. I finally flew my 3D Printed plane for the first time. It turned into quite an adventure.

Awww poor plane, I'll miss you. But hey, you got out there, you did it and it was entertaining for sure.

Also, my drone has been my best friend when crashing an airplane...I live around cornfields and I have put a few planes down during mid summer when the corn is 8ft+ tall. I recall a couple years ago, literally flying about 20 drone recon flights to find a plane that i lost orientation of at night and it took off a mile and a half away. I've only been unable to recover one...and that's because I'm genius and I printed the plane and spray painted it in camo :D

Maybe next time you go looking if you have a battery hedge trimmer or brush cutter might make it a little easier. Even maybe a machete

Maybe set up a chip on board to monitor the control signal from the controller, If the sign is lost the chip program turns off the engine and deploys a parachute You fitted the top of the wind that stays fold flat until it is unlocked?

Go to your local flying club and let them buddy box you! Plus they can check the CG and everything when you took off the landing gear. Your CG certainly changed

The other suggestion is to allow the maiden flight to be done by that Ace of an old man so that he can trim it in just so and make it easy for you to fly. You'll just have to assure him that if he breaks it, you'll print another one

Yep, CG... Added a new meaning to tail dragger... I would recommend a cheap foam beginner kit, like a hobby store one. Sims are good too, and lots of time there can keep a lot of mistakes from happening. I don't know if you could simulate what you did to the plane though. Flying a pendulum isn't fun!
@3DPrintSOS
@3DPrintSOS 18 күн бұрын
I got tens of hours of sim under my belt. This was an off-the-cuff, spur-of-the-moment error. All I needed to do was move the damn battery forward and the crisis would have been averted. I just got too excited and acted without thinking :/

Maybe an additon to the firmware to sound off the plane if it is powered up without any action for say 20 minutes would be a good thing, considering how cheap GPS modules are, I am surprised you didn't include one, however, hindsight is a great thing!

Excellent try on the flight, that’s way to bumpy for the plastic landing gear, need the wire landing gear or some springy printed landing gear.

This feeling is all too familiar...I've been flying for 20 years, and you just never know what you will get when you 3d print a plane...I've had good success with eclipson planes like the EBW Blackwing and Prandtl. I have printed probably a dozen planes and only 1 or 2 have only made it for a second flight....Even if a flight goes perfectly well, even the softest landing can tear these things apart. Good job for at least trying your hardest!

@@johnhersom6002 Thanks, ASA aero sounds interesting, although I'm a little skeptical of their claimed numbers. There are some tough plain old ASA filaments out there that I was thinking of using for drone frames and the like.

While not the outcome you wanted, still great learning experience. Throwing was intact so that speaks for the pla.

@@3DPrintSOS I'm surprised that you got as far as you did. The other thing, and I'm sure that you were trying it, would be to move the controls and listen for the servos moving while you were looking for the fuselage. Definitely a long shot though. I will say that your radio gear is a heck of a lot better that what we had. I still have an old school pre-frequency change here at the house. That's a pretty old radio. Probably my biggest faux-pas was when I launched my sailplane without securing the cover over my radio gear. Not only did it pitch my battery out on launch, therefore switching itself into free-flight mode, I also got first-hand experience on the flight characteristics of an excessively tail-heavy aircraft. Not that I had anything to do with controlling my plane at that point. So, not hindsight per se... :)
@3DPrintSOS
@3DPrintSOS 18 күн бұрын
@@MrWaalkman haha Oh wow. Yeah that sounds like a simular flight experience haha. I was running the new ELRS on this plane so the radio signal was good for….MILES. sadly.
