Attention Qidi Plus 4 owners or Prospects! We now have official word from Qidi about the SSR board issue. They will replace the boards for free with instructions on how to do it properly and extend your warranty by 1 year. If you cannot or won't do it yourself, they offer a hassle-free full refund. ***Previous updates below*** I wanted to make note of an issue that is surfacing with the Qidi Plus 4 machine. According to multiple people I trust in the industry and several users in FB groups, YT comment sections, and Discord servers it has come to my attention that the Plus 4 has an issue with the Solid State Relay for the chamber heater. When being used on a 110/120v socket, the SSR can overheat and in some cases even melt down components around it. Qidi has swiftly released a firmware update that limits the heater’s power and are saying it is now safe to use. However, I have a feeling that there may need to be a hardware fix for said issue. In the past, Qidi has done an amazing job addressing problems. Based solely on that, I have faith that they will fix this properly. However, in the meantime, I want to be transparent about this and bring it to your attention. I myself have been printing with this machine since I received it two months ago. Most of my prints have been longer ABS and ASA prints with the heater running at max temp. With that said, just because my machine seems to be ok, yours may not be! So please, if you have a Plus 4, grab the update as soon as possible. I will try to keep everyone updated when I hear something official has been said or done. ---------------------------------------------------------- I have an official response from Qidi about the Plus 4 chamber heater issue and my concerns: TLDR is that there are two things to digest here: 1. Qidi is saying that it’s safe (especially with the latest firmware) to use because in the tests performed the chamber was opened and rear cover was off. This isn't normal operation for the machine and forces the heater to remain always on. Which is not how it is designed to work. Under normal use, the heater will automatically power down as needed and shouldn’t cause the inductor on its power supply to reach a high enough temperature to be an issue. 2. If anyone IS or HAS had an issue, they will not only replace the heater power supply but also add an extra year of warranty coverage. Thats a BIG step in the right direction! Qidi’s full responce: "Hi Fedor. I understand your concerns about the Plus 4 printer and the reported heating issues. I want to reassure you that with the latest firmware updates, the power supply temperature for the chamber heater stays below 140°C during normal printing conditions, even with the chamber enclosed and the heated bed on. The inductors in the chamber heater are designed to be safe, and they do not pose any fire hazards. In tests where the chamber is not enclosed, the maximum temperature of the inductor can reach up to 180°C, High temperature might speed up aging, the worst that can happen is a coil break, no any burning risk. But it is not advisable to run the heater at full power continuously. In a properly enclosed chamber, the heater will automatically reduce its power as it reaches the desired temperature. For users experiencing issues with aging heaters, we’re offering a free optimized replacement heater power supply, which will help reduce operating temperatures significantly, along with an extra year of warranty coverage. If you have any more questions or concerns, feel free to reach out!”

I have a side gig small print farm. While I love I never have to touch my P1S I also have a QIDI XPlus3 I use because of it's heated chamber. Sorry Bambu fan boys but QIDI and their heated chamber is superior for ABS/ASA printing. They basically fixed everything I had an issue with on the XPlus3, so next printer will probably be another QIDI.

I'm glad QIDI is upping their game after my horrible experience with the XMax3. At this point, I'm looking for three things: 1) reliable AMS-type system, 2) perfect first layer every time, 3) 350^3 build area. So in other words, a larger P1S. Heated interior is a plus but not required. This one is in the K1Max zone for me, which is a useful zone, but I already have as K1Max. I am excited about the new filament as it has some very attractive properties.

Awesome stuff and review dude! Yeah, recently started learning about thermal drift and how a heated chamber is basically a necessity for best results. 2 things though: 1. CF filaments are amazing! But they are also lowkey dangerous. The fibers are chopped very fine and get everywhere. If you’re putting that in your car console, you should clear coat it first. If you don’t believe me, there are some videos out there that cover this and will show how the fibers embed in your skin on contact… and maybe eventually your lungs. Since the console will likely occasionally have napkins or something like that, I don’t recommend you put that straight into your vehicle. 2. Where did you learn to vent PLA / TPU while printing? I haven’t heard of this and am not aware of the technique

I want your opinion on this. P1S or X1C Vs. Qidi Plus 4
@3DPrintSOS
@3DPrintSOS Ай бұрын
X1C is still leading because the AMS is not out yet for the qidi machine. Plus at this point, its a proven top tier machine. On the other hand, the Plus4’s heater is amazing and makes abs, asa, nylon, etc as easy to print as PLA. The P1S needs a few mods to print hot and CF filaments from what I understand because it lacks hardened steel gears and nozzle. So I think if you want multi-color RIGHT NOW, X1C. If you want all materials, plus4, if you want a feature packed mid-tier machine with an upgrade path, P1S. There is also an open source vs closed system debate. The closed source is a better experience but open source is an amazing community-driven effort that gives you power to do what you want.

A Longer LK5 bed-slinger. I have liked it fine, but it has made me want something that requires less "fiddling" and is more novice friendly. Price is not a major issue, but is a small factor. Would you recommend the X1C to someone wanting more reliability without expert knowledge in how to fine tune to get perfection?
@3DPrintSOS

Yes. Exactly that. Even-though the plus 4 is a beast and has great UI, the X1C has a better user experience and is geared more towards the no knowledge required crowd. However, if you DO have to do something, it will be a bit easier on the Qidi as the opensource nature lends itself better to that. @@3DPrintSOS for me testing 60a TPU is the ultimate test for every modern 3d printer. Everyone tests PLA, it is so boring, especially printers with proprietary tool heads should be tested for soft TPU, because the biggest drawback of such a machine is that it might not, what makes it completely useless in my opinion. On the other hand - if it prints soft TPU, the printer will probably be capable of almost anything

@@3DPrintSOS Many forget that while you want a heater to heat your chamber to say 60c, the heater's actual output temperature is far higher - 100-120c. They don't have a lot of variation, they are either hot or HOT. And while not a problem for a bed to get that high the heaters output is pointing directly at the rod (it's also close enough to the Left Z screw to heat that quite a bit too). If the rod heats enough and expands it will kick the corner out of square, and will significantly degrading the life span of you're lubricant, effectively cooking it off. It's cool, but... The Bambu P1S has now undercut its price. Without a multi-material option already available, the Qidi is a hard sell. It's a big ask for people to buy in the hopes of possibly seeing multi-material next year. The main thing drawing people here has to be the build volume. But Bambu has promised a new system before this year is out. If I were in a marketing position at Qidi, I'd announce a multi-material solution with minimum 5 spools, TOMORROW.

Jesus the fanboys are out in force. If a reviewer has a very positive experience with a printer and it is priced cheaper than competitors with the same or lesser capabilities, what are they supposed to say? This channel has a solid reputation for honesty. If you have an actual specific critique or constructive criticism to give, then give it. It's the only printer with a hotend that can reach that temperature and with a heated chamber for anywhere near this cost, especially at its size. How is any of that late to the game? If you don't have anything of value to say, don't say anything.

I respect your opinion. So far, this is the only machine that has these specs. Build area, internal components such as rods, bearings, belts,etc, as well as chamber-related features. The closest machine to this is my X1C but it lacks a heater. This is open-source and gives you the power. The Bambu is closed but has a better experience over-all as they invest greatly in UX as a company. If you have any specific details you’d like to know. Let me know.
