I finally got a Randy Rhoads guitar!

Hi, this is Gus G, guitarist of Firewind. The last few years I've wanted a Randy Rhoads guitar for my collection, purely for historical reasons, considering I've spent a number of years as Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist. My friends at Jackson guitars were kind enough to send me an RR3 model. I made a video of the unboxing process & jammed a few rifts on it too. Hope you enjoy!

Heh, my first guitar was a Randy V Hondo copy, in like 1984 for my birthday. My mom tricked me, she brought me into another room after it seemed like it was over and said she apologized that she couldn't afford to get me a guitar, ( which she probably couldn't) but, when we came out of the room there was this guitar sitting in my chair. I lost my mind it was a RR V. Biggest shock of my life. I had it for like 3 years and then there was this younger kid that loved metal so much that always wanted to hang out with me at school. One time i went to his house and saw his life, he was so poor and it seemed like his mother didn't care about him. Some time after i was to move out of state and i just gifted that guitar to him. The look on his face when i handed it to him was the same look as when i saw it for the first time. Never saw him again but hope he was able to get some joy out of it.

Thank you for sharing this. The people we meet along the way. Damn dude, not to use an expletive in such a wonderful testimony, but I am moved as well. Some of those kids who no one seemed to want, found home and acceptance, and most importantly safety in Heavy Metal. Which is odd in light of how much it was attacked and maligned by the supposed "wholesome" traditional community. I guess it's ok to cast people out, be hypocritical, cruel and two faced, but God help those kids if they find home and acceptance on their own, somewhere unsanctioned and uncontrolled by the people who wouldn't have them anyway. Deep kindness exists within all people, but I especially enjoy witnessing it in the setting of metal music community and appreciation. Your Mother was a sweetheart with that gift of love and financial sacrifice, and you continued the gift to the kid with nothing. You have improved my day, thank you.

Most high end imports don't come with cases anymore. I was surprised the LTD 600/Artist Sig series came with one, since the 1000 doesn't and they're supposed to be the same tier.

I bought mine from Sweetwater and that's how it came, double-boxed just like in this video. I was shocked at how good the setup was right out of the box-it needed tuning, but the action was perfect, the truss rod was perfect, the pickup heights needed just a tiny bit of tweaking. Frets were level and finished perfectly. Of all my guitars, this is the one I've had to tinker with the least. And yeah you have to order the case separately and that's what I did.

Building mine right now. A white gibson les paul copy and a recessed floyd rose. Itll look identical to his minus the floyd. Where it says gibson on the head stock it will say Rhoads

I recently learned Grover Jackson only made Charvel guitars at the time when he and Randy designed this guitar, but he was scared to put “Charvel” on the headstock because the design was so radical, and thus Jackson guitars was born. All time classic guitar. Can’t wait to own one one day!

didn't they make a vid of them announcing that 50 exact replicas of Randy's white Concorde were being made and the price was randys birthday 12,619.56. which is Randy's birthday...damn only 50 made,?? they prob were bought in the first 10 mins. they wanted to make them so kids could have a guitar. but who's got 12k + to buy a kid this guitar?? I always found the tremolo very big in the replicas and it don't fit right look wise.., Randy never had a Floyd Rose on this guitar just the standard bridge and a typical whammy bar. serious though, did Randy ever play with a Floyd Rose on any of his guitars? I don't think so, damn without one it go out of tune no problem.. .he said in an interview that a Floyd Rose is a great tremolo but he uses Jackson tremolos. cause he built 2 guitars for Randy the Concorde and the one u see him holding during the 1981 best new talent interview vid... think he mentioned ppl were saying what's a Jackson? the owner of charvel started making guitars and he asked Randy if he could put Jackson(his last name) on the headstock...Randy helped him create his company to the huge company Jackson is now......I have a js30rr red Randy Rhoads guitar from 2005 still looks fresh from the shine when I bought it at the music store....was in the case in the box in the back room....I very much baby it. still has the plastic on the truss rod cover

Hello, i must ask this, is this the Concorde model you are playing here? I Bought 2 Randy models in the early 1990's and they were called the LTD Model, i bought # 28, and # 100 of these models, this was before i heard them called the Concorde, what is the difference between the 2 different runs of the Guitar, Please respond, thank you, Cousin Figel

The Concorde is impractical to play solos, because the upper part of the body ends-up being much higher up the fretboard. In other words, the geometry of the body was bad. The Concorde was the 1st design of Jackson Custom Randy Rhoads. A second custom model was made for him after that corrected that problem & it's the actual shape. ESP copied the body geometry and added a cut away to make the fretboard access even easier. Check the ESP Signature model of Alexi Laiho (not sold in US, because of Jackson's copyrights on the geometry). EDIT: Wanted to add/specify that your guitars are still worth a lot of money. Both, bc they have the original design & because of the 90's period builds (seen one for $4,800 CDN so around $US 4,000 each).

Just got a Rhoads myself, not Randy's model specifically, but another model with that shape(that Randy created). Definitely the best flying V style IMO, the asymetrical, longer "wing" looks killer while still remaining simple

@@metalpunk9519 I bet you sold off the LP player that plays it. With any modern LP player it’s not going to play the original sound. A sign of success is not whether the new born babies listen to RR. It’s, Did grandma and grandpa of the 1980’s think much of it? Clearly, at the time in 1980, they hated it and that never changed. The music system is right to sell only to new born humans. It’s kiddies music. Playing a song one more time for the new borns is just the dumbest thing to do. In 50 years time, this is still going to be the only music for people to listen to. It was the last of the people who knew how to be social. In the exploded ruins of the music scene, people will always be able to find this stuff and nothing else. There’s no one to have a conversation with. Nobody knows how to behave around other humans. This stuff is dead. Gone, just the same as dinosaurs. All you’re doing is patting yourself on the back. Standing amongst the nuclear ruins of an old society is what you’re doing. The mass of the population is fooling you into thinking a certain way. It never was what rick is saying it was.

That sound has nothing to do with RR. That 2020 version of and old thing has nothing to do with RR. RR didn’t play with the 2020 version of the guitar and the blacked out thing RR had was, of course, blacked out so nobody actually saw a shape of the guitar cause it was painted in a paint that causes humans to look at other things. It’s just loozer guss, patting himself on the back again. This guy wouldn’t have a clue how to be social.

Gus. Hope you see this. I idolize Randy but honestly your KILLER playing on the Scream album is amazing. I think "I Want It More" is one of the best Ozzy song in years. It has been my main ringtone and wake up alarm song for years. And I DEFINITLY get a "Randy-vibe" to your style. And that's a great thing indeed. Put it this way... of Ozzy's guitarists I'd rank you top 3 and that list DOES not include Zakk. lol I would have loved to see what you had in store for us IF... Oh well. Beautiful guitar. I wonder what Randy would think if he knew his legacy...
