I'm the exact same way as Max. For me personally, watching a pro player play a character that I'm interested in learning is a very good way for me to understand the character and see what they do. I then try to replicate what they do and as my understanding and skill grows, I begin to try to add my own flare to the character.

The advantage of ending smoke air combos with jump kick air through, is that at the end of air throw, you can throw ex-smoke bomb for unscaled 10% extra damage. So your 35% combo turns into 45%

This was a perfect Mortal Kombat game. Its amazing to me that all they did was inject more of the stuff that didn't work in V and VI in X and then slowed down MK11 and forced you to know all the combos to be able to string together any semblance of actual combat.

Me and my buddies in 8th grade would walk to my house in groups of like 8-10 to play tournaments of this game. We'd have our own brackets and everything. We even got so far into it where if someone had a fatality preformed on them they were not allowed to use that character again for the remainder of the day

I remember as a kid playing Liu against all my friends. You can just repeat the B312 string 3 times and its an easy 30% low starter combo. Everyone within my friend group used to consider him the best in the game cause no one knew how to play. Fun times

I learned potem on guilty gear strive and some of the combo grabs like sit clap into heat knuckle was something i never would have thought of without watching pro players. I take pride in making up my own combo but also know it's good to watch those who know the cancels and frame data to optimize as well

If I'm being honest I think Mortal Kombat 9 had some of the best fatalities in this game I eat Noob Saibot Wishbone fatalities and Kung lao's buzzsaw hat. I also wish they'd kept some of the art designs from Mortal Kombat 9 and X, and had them as DLC costumes for MK11 who knows we might actually get it for in MK12. Just seem maxplay as smoke is most enjoyable I'm glad to see his Hypeness is just as infectious for everybody especially after witnessing the demo presentation of Street Fighter 6

As an ex-Smoke Main in MK9, Max's wonder over the EX Smoke Bomb reset sure brought me back lol. Though IIRC overtime you learn that the reset EX Bomb isn't RNG but more of a matter of timing (and kinda why people do it the F+4 ender).

I played this game until the last days the seevers were up. It's the only game in which I learned to use almost every character, I truly miss it; the best MK NRS has ever made. -Fun fact: the patch version you play in training mode/local/offline, and the online patch version were different; that reset with EX Smoke Bomb would never work online, also there were some set ups with Sub Zero that online worked online, for example.

When learning a new character. I would say go into training mode, learn a lot of the characters strings and then go watch tournament players and combo videos that way you recognize the combo strings when you see them. Experiment a little bit on your own that way when you go watch videos you can understand better and be like oh my gosh I didn't even realize I could do that
