It warms my heart to know Max loves "Shredder" Sub-Zero as much as I do. To me, that is GRANDMASTER Sub-Zero. You get kidnapped by the Lin Kuei and they drag your tied up ass into a large room, they toss you to the ground and you look up...and THAT'S the guy who's sitting on the frozen throne.

Something to note about both Sub Zero's is that they are Half Chinese/White, as they were originally born American but taken to the Lin Kuei when they were Kids. Hence why Kuai looks "White" in 3,DA, and X.

Watching Max’s series of these has definitely shown me that I’m the opposite of him when it comes to character design. He seems to often prefer what I would consider to be overdesigned and busy and I tend to prefer what I view as more simple and streamlined.

Tbh sub has my favorite design out of the Lin Kuei ninjas in mk1, it’s the shoulder pads that really do it for me. I think the shoulder pads actually being present and having shape that goes out makes it look a lot less like pajamas. Still love all the designs tho NRS did a great job.

Here is the thing with the change with Sub Zero: the actor who played the ninja, Daniel Pensia l, was fired for using his character as Johnny Cage to promote a rival fighting character. Likewise, many people who play Subby in 2 dont believe the fact that he was Kuai Liang so to proof that 2's Sub Zero was not the same as 1, they gave him a big change to establish that this sub is not the same as bi han.

Deception’s Shredder armor is his best look so far, with Kuai Liang’s MK9 look being my 2nd favorite. If he has to go maskless, his best is X with the beard and blank white eyes. My issue with the maskless look is I always prefer him with longer hair like how he looked in his end game cinematic in MK 2 and the MK Annihilation movie. I’m not the biggest fan of how Cyber looks, but I love his move set and how his Kori Blade looks.

This series is so perfect. Taps into why I loved the old Rate The Kostume videos so much but takes a new angle by honing on the design progression rather than one game at a time. Sooo good. Some of the best content to come out of any MK hype cycle

The "Batman Ears" didn't come in MK4, they were actually around since MK1. The comic/character book art has the ears. The 1995 cartoon thing had them, I know some of the toys had them. They've always been there back then.

Sub Zerro is my favorite design of the 3 Lin Kuei Ninjas in MK1. It's simple, but it's got enough extra details like the ice hands and the shoulder pads that make is stick out from Scorpion and and Smoke. It's the perfect blend of detail and simplicity

The reason Mythologies and MK4 are identical because it's the exact same wardrobe. Bi-Han wore this in Mythologies with the simplistic choice being deliberate to reference MK1 (1992) since the game takes place before it. It's basically an updated version of that. Kuai Liang took up his older brother's outfit in MK4 to finish what he started and help Raiden fend against Shinnok's forces. Keep in mind he's still a deserter of the Lin Kuei at this point in time. The outfit is more for his brother than them.

I'm really hoping we actually get Shredder in MK as a guest at some point, especially after the Turtles being in Injustice. THe amount of alternate costumes he could have is in no shortage (especially looking at the design he had in the Turtles' arcade ending) and he has a LOT of potential as a fighter being a ninja/samurai mix.

01. MKX default is one of the best designs for the character, imo. It's not perfect, and I'd love to see them bring it back and maybe tweak it a bit. But they were definitely 'inspired' by Vincent Proce's concept art. That Sub-Zero he drew all those years ago (and you'll know which one I mean as soon as you Google it), to me personally, absolutely nails the character. It's like the original Sub-Zero, but good.. great, in fact. I don't care what anyone says, Proce's Sub is easily the best one, although that's more like original Bi Han Sub-Zero. I also used the Revenant skin a lot in MKX. I liked it, sue me. Beard-Zero didn't really work for me. But yeah, MKX default is probably my favorite. 02. Deception's "Shredder" was obviously top notch, but the helmet does detract somewhat from what basic Sub should be, imo. The white fur was a nice touch though. 03. MK11 default Sub-Zero was alright. I remember using the white version of his klassic costume, with the demon mask with the fangs. That was a good look! I've always liked the idea of a white/blue costume. The Blizzard King costume was also pretty sick. The Deception version was alright, but I didn't love it as much as that original Deception one. Something about the way it looks on a normal character model diminishes the badassery for some reason. But lots of memorable options in this, which is why I'd put MK11 Sub in the top 3. 04. MK1 Sub is actually kinda cool. They'd been adding a lot to the character over the years, and I feel like going back to a kind of basic design, at least for his default, is a good call. The 'basic' thing is misleading, though. The costume is quite elaborate. I think it lacks elements that really jump out, but that's also a good thing. I quite like it. 05. Deception's alt is top 5 for me. Yes it was kinda goofy and weird, but there's something about it that I just love. It has this mysterious Lin Kuei vibe to it. Maybe what he needed was a different head, but neck-down, I still think it's a cool design. Again, somewhat reminiscent of Proce's art, being fully clothed and not wearing skin tight shit. The older designs (realistically) aren't that interesting. Injustic Sub was awesome, but too much of a deviation for me to rank him in my top 5. It's like a sugar-rush fever-dream Sub-Zero.

Funny enough. The ONLY gripe I have with the Deception Alt is the fact he does have a hood. I think if they had given him a hood, it’d be maybe his 2nd best look

@@CharlesHitmanStone Yeah, since their default design was already highly conceptual, I think they should've given the alt costume some type of ninja hood, as opposed to trying out yet another highly conceptual design (i.e. no hood at all, and on top of that a bald head with a ponytail). Still, I don't hate it, but I think more people would've appreciated the alt costume if it included a hood of some kind. I honestly think that the head alone made people dislike the whole costume, but the costume's actually pretty dope.
