The more years since the game’s release, the more charming I find blind plays. No, but it's hardly the only choice, and frankly to me the absolute worst people in the Undertale fandom are the people who INSIST that Papyrus HAS to be Skeletor (and that Sans HAS to sound like whatever KZbinr those kinds of people insisted he sounds like). i find it interesting that undertale basically telegraphs most (if not all) of its punches, if the player pays enough attention. literally just reading and acting as the game tells you leads you down the true pacifist path. but iirc when it came out, so many people were used to classic grindy rpgs, the effect it had was huge. hell, this can be seen in some other youtube playthroughs as well, like in pointcrow's. he got to like lv10 or 14, and the regret in his eyes when the game basically slapped him across the face with consequence after consequence for his actions was palpable lmao and the best part is, even if you go straight for the true pacifist ending, you get an amazing experience. no matter how you play, the great writing, amazing music, fun gameplay just keeps you engaged (unless you go on that one route, in which case all warranty is void lmfao). but everyone gets their own personalized experience, depending on the context they start the game with. truly a wonderful game, and i'm happy to see people find out about it, even after its heyday :) the fanbase has thankfully somewhat mellowed out, although if you dig deep enough into any huge fanbase you'll always find some rot. that's just the sad truth. excited to watch the rest of this playthrough :) you're very perceptive and funny as well. perfect wombo combo
@theflyingspaget6 ай бұрын
WRONG YOU DO NOT GET AS GOOD OF AN EXPERIENCE IF YOU GO PACIFIST FIRST I understand the whole quality of an experience is subjective but even as someone who played true pacifist first, I can not recommend it. Well if I had to recommend anything it'd be to go into the game spoiler free, but even if you know the whole story it still is important to do a neutral run first simply for the experience. The neutral ending calls are not only some of the most interesting dialogue in the game, but they serve the important narrative purpose of reminding you that your actions have consequences. The reason that every neutral ending is a little different is because your choices do matter, and getting at least one of those endings is important for cementing yourself in the story as an actual actor within the story. Yes I understand that neutral pacifist also gives you a call but it's not the same, all the events after are the results of Flowey's choice to kill the king, not any of your choices. So by skipping a neutral run, you've sidestepped such a major part of the game that it's like you've skipped straight to the ending. There's a reason that one of the common critiques of Undertale back in the day was that it is too preachy and on a moral high horse, it's because most people played neutral first. But what those people didn't understand was that that's the point. Undertale is not supposed to be a punishment for being a gamer, it's designed to be a twisted reflection of RPGs but it's also a love letter to the genre. TL;DR: Neutral is absolutely necessary because it sets the stage for pacifist emotionally.
@RatcheT24976 ай бұрын

@@theflyingspaget that's fair :) yeah that is a pretty annoying trend that still persists to this day. it's understandable why people do it, but does suck out a fair amount of the joy of discovery. pointcrow's playthrough is really interesting for that reason - he basically only listened to chat once it was far too late and the emotional toll of his actions crashed down on him all at once :D not to mention the punches that kept coming later down the line.

1:08:13 holy fucking shit, i have NEVER seen someone actually understand the "talking flower" conversation before literally ever. every other blind let's player i've ever seen just assumes they thought wrong immediately and completely dismisses the rest of the conversation the moment the echo flower is brought up. i haven't finished the video yet, but even if this guy forgets the whole conversation within five minutes like every other let's player, he's still surpassed my expectations by simply realizing that sans IS talking about flowey, and was making an incorrect assumption in thinking it must be an echo flower.
@penntopaper9305 Жыл бұрын
LITERALLY THIS!!! its in yellow text and everything! honestly, the amount of shit people don't pick up on relating to flowey/asriel sometimes actually drives me up the wall 😭him being my favorite character is low key a curse sometimes. on that note, its also so refreshing to see someone not immediately start thinking asriel is a totally different character from flowey in the pacifist ending. the consistency of "this guy" "what is this guys problem" and "little bro" in both the omega flowey and asriel fight is fantastically funny with a side of lore accuracy
@rage7609 Жыл бұрын
I also realized this as I was playing the game since after flowey taught us how to "play" I immediately got terrified of him back then and whenever the topic is about flowers it always reminded me of him especially during the waterfall chapter I was genuinely terrified of the fact that flowey might somehow pop up from one of the echo lowers

Is it not understandable that the yellow text would be overlooked? Yellow text is used fairly regularly in the game as simply highlighting. One of the more common ones. I believe it's a 5% chance. Not even close to the chances of something like Mystery Man (0.1%) or even the Gaster followers (0.5% or 0.2% depending on which one). Also to the other replies, Goner Kid is the second most common fun event in the game at a 10% chance. The only thing more common is the wrong number song. Despite what everyone seems to think, the fun events aren't that uncommon. You're actually almost guaranteed to see at least one of them. There is less than a 5% chance that you do not get a fun event. The reason they seem so rare is because you can only get one per run.

Not sure if you noticed in situ of stream, but one cool thing I didn't see you notice in the vid here - the 'helpers' in the final neutral boss correspond with the weapons you get through the game (e.g. ballet shoes, frying pan, etc..), which are also the 6 other human souls.

As someone who does prefer the Deltarune community just due to like better theory and analysis content, Undertale is very relevant to us still because it informs so much of the worldbuilding in that game. But yeah, Undertale is a game that will always deserve appreciation even when it gets old. It's a very timeless game in a lot of ways, I have similar feelings about a bunch of my other favorite games narratively too. Hopefully Deltarune can do it justice as a sequel (personally I think it's already doing so, hopefully it'll try something new and different from the moral Undertale has presented us with).

man the undertale fandom's actually not so bad anymore. it was bad in like 2017-2018 ish. everyone's mellowed out nowadays
@gothic_ace2037 Жыл бұрын
all fandoms are like that, they're really toxic for a few years then they chill out. Its because of a small group of trolls that enter into a fandom to stir up trouble then dip once no one is interested in the thing that created the fandom@@penntopaper9305
@mariotheundying Жыл бұрын
@@penntopaper9305 you skipped 2 years, I would say it was very toxic in 2015-2018 (saying this as a fan from early 2016), by the time Deltarune came out the fandom was calmed down

This is the first time I'm seeing this ending. Because in my playthrough I had to fight Asgore and I literally COULD NOT WIN it was so incredibly hard. I literally quit the game and never finished it lol. I know to get to this part, I needed to do a pacifist run. But it was my first time playing and I didn't get the hints to be nice so easily lol. So I suffered and didn't play again lol.

Honestly most of Undertale's early fame came from the Homestucks. Yet, I saw all of Undertale at release before ever getting past the first 5 pages of Homestuck, until 3 years ago. Anybody who discovers and plays Undertale now has so much in-the-moment zeitgeist removed. It is sterile of the culture that came before it. Just found this thought interesting to share.
@Spider8itchy Жыл бұрын
I will never fucking escape homestuck While I highly agree, that it did start out that way, the fact that it stood on it's own merits is more important imo. It's even surpassed homestuck, and honestly, dispite loving the world building, I think undertale is much better, toby fox, at least, handles his success with grace

Honestly, I don't know how I managed to hold the spoilers for 8 years, I've never tried the game, except for the soundtracks that's been spreading on the internet, the only thing I know in the game is Sans. Finally tried it few months ago and had a great experience so far. I do my first gameplay with pacifist and then genocide. Would highly recommend Undertale, I'm crying over pixels.
