Wasn’t a fan of One Piece growing up, I checked out a few episodes and it didn’t hit for me at the time. Decided to give it another try in 2021 and for whatever reason that story hit this time. As I kept watching/reading it I just kept getting more and more invested in the story and world building and I kept finding myself say at numerous times of the story “Oda is insane for creating this” I ended up catching up and it gives you all types of emotions. This was probably one of the first shonen out of the usual popular one that had me in tears with what some of the characters went through. Overall, it’s amazing.

One Piece is THE greatest story ever written to me. Everything about it works. From the characters to the themes it all works! Like, there is nothing more heartbreaking than someone who was aiming so high and got tragically cut short by something as small and everyday-ish as falling down the stairs. Being shocked and feeling it was meaningless is the intended effect. At least, that's how I feel. EDIT: There has been quite a few of you coming down into the replies to say that "Falling down the stairs" is a euphemism for "Unaliving oneself". Thank you for your imput, but it's not true. Just ask a Japanese person, someone who lives in japan or google it. It's something that was born on the english-speaking part of Reddit.

Until back in March of 2021, i thought it would be a good idea to give One piece a another try since at the time my charger broke and i couldn't use my phone so i had nothing to actually do than watch this, after watching some episodes i started to get more interested with the story and well i staid atlest a full day just watching it non-stop.Until that day to now,i still watch One piece with full on interest and excitement waiting for the next chapter. Its incredibly symbolic because He also used his legs for fighting, so by sacrificing his leg he's also giving up on his dream....its why Sanji doesn't want to leave the baratie, he believes he owes Zeff a lifelong debt, (also up until Sanji's farewell, Zeff never calls him by name) only calling him by Name as a final farewell and acknowledging him.

Man might be a womenizer but he is no beta boy. He dose not clad himself in a fedora and call it day, NO! man has a dream and is willing to go to full lenght for it. And thats what makes him difrent and likable, that you may question his principals, but he stands by them tho hell and high water. I started consuming One piece in 2001, at that time, i was thinking, man I am so late to this. Well look at the series now. Boggles the mind how far the series has come, and how the perception has changed. Originally the series was mocked by editors at Jump and Toriyama, But Oda decided to prove them wrong. This is his magnum opus. This is a legendary series, that I hope many people can set aside their hate for something they didn't give a shot try to consume. It is definitely the most unique and has been the most unique for 25 years and still going. It's incredible. There is NOTHING like One Piece out there.

I've never heard of toriyama and editors mocking it. Didn't oda won competition where toriyama was judge?? One piece's one shot and the series has always been on the top ranking.

Dont know if you have heard this before but for Kuina (the girl in Zoros backstory) dieing that way, from what i understood she had the sword with her to sharpen it because of the fight and promise. In her , maybe excitement , or rush to stay ahead of Zoro, she tripped with a blade. Sorry if that makes no sense, but thats how i saw it.

It totally was the same for me! I grew up with Naruto and Inyuasha, but I started when the pandemic was just beginning and decided on a whim that I just wanted to start it after so many people liked it. I only watched when I ate too, and it was fine at first-it felt like a nice, cozy adventure! Then you get some of the back stories and get into some more locations and the story just gets so good…! 😭 I’ve caught up now, but I hope you enjoy it!

Btw in the anime Chef Zeff lost his foot trying to save Sanji and it got stuck by the anchor chains, in the manga he literally cut off and ate his own foot. They changed it in the anime because felt it would be too much for kids to handle

I personally started One Piece with the Swedish official translated manga in 2003, (so basically been a fan for 20 years later this year). It was the second manga I ever read, (the first one being Dragon Ball, thanks to a friend of mine). In the beginning I was like: "Yeah, I mean, it's good but it's no DB." That tone quickly changed the more I discovered from the world of One Piece. The characters, the adventure, the setting, the story, the everything. It just drew me in more and more. I'll forever treasure DB because it got me into manga/anime (and it's actually pretty good), but for me, it's not even close to being as good as One Piece (personal opinion). I mean... If something can keep you interested for 20 years, it's doing something well! The only problem I'd say is the pacing of the anime. Which will become more apparent later on. It will feel like you get about 4-5 min of content per episode. It will slow down drastically. Nothing that bad right now, since you don't have to watch it weekly, but still. They have gotten somewhat better in the latest arc. Or it's what it feels like from someone not currently reading the manga. Not to mention the animation in that arc is the best ever.) One Piece will forever be my #1 manga/anime of all time! (Sorry for so much rambling, haha.) 😂

I avoided it like the plague for years, and hated what I saw of the character designs. I finally started watching like mid pandemic because I had enough of people praising. I just passed episode 1,000 last week - and I never thought I would proudly proclaim my Strawhat Crew status. And I neeeeeever thought it would make my top 5

Bruh when she said, “who needs friends when you got one piece” literally got me laughing hard, I am a big one piece fan and to be honest it was one of those shows I didn’t want to watch but it sounded cool and seem cool so I tired and I loved it so much “every new one piece episode on Saturday”, and yes I am on the latest episode. First time seeing this KZbinr but to be honest this stuff she is saying is All facts well guess not all cause some are options and I respect it but you know… anyways sheesh that earn a like.

Around episode 100 story picks up really well with taste of more mysteries and grandness of one piece world. Its still great because of characters but story starts from 90-110 somewhere.

I watched One Piece from 2001 to 2005. Till the end of the Skypiea Arc. I dropped it then because it was too slow and I didn't pick it back up till like 2018. It's a very good series.

I also barely started watching One Piece at the start of this year, hadn't watched it since the 4Kids dub on the Fox Box back in the early-mid 2000s, and I am also hooked on it! My quota is at least 3 episodes per day in order to catch up by the end of the year.
