Went from the LG 34WK95-U. Immediately noticed the lower brightness in comparison but have since gotten used to it. I love this monitor. Expensive? Yes. But I don't regret buying it. I do programming and the screen real-estate is perfect! It's also great for watching movies and for flying on MSFS 2020. Only wish the monitor control joystick were on the side instead of the center. I use a Tobii Eye Tracker and it's meant to be placed centered under the monitor. It makes accessing the joystick kind of tricky. I also don't like that HDMI only maxes out at 50hz response but easily goes down to 30hz. I have an M1 14" MBP connected via TB4 and it's great at native res of 5k2k. I also have my Gaming PC connected via DP to an RTX 3090 and it also looks great at 5k2k 72hz. My work laptop is a Lenovo X280 connected via HDMI and that runs at 30hz when I run it at the highest resolution the laptop can support on this monitor which is 3840 x 1620. If I run it at it's HDMI suggested resolution for the Lenovo of 3440 x 1440 then it will run at 50hz which is still kind of slow. The 34wk95-U was 60hz all around. Either way, let's hope LG will somehow fix this via bios update, if it can even be done.

Great review, very concise whilst covering all the important stuff you really need to know. I tried one of these with a Mac Studio but ended up returning it because of the poor scaling and max brightness. As you mentioned in your review, the 5K resolution is very nice, but if you’re using this with a Mac and are expecting “retina-link” experience at all of the supported resolutions, you’re going to be disappointed. That said, it may or may not be an issue for you depending on what you’re used to and what you’re going to use it for. The only other thing I’ve found with this monitor and other LGs is that occasionally they won’t come on when you wake your Mac from sleep. It’s been an issue for as long as I can remember and still hasn’t been fixed with this one when connecting over TB4. If macOS is going to suck at scaling, why won’t Apple produce monitors in a wider range of sizes?

The best right now probably has to be the Philips Brilliance 7000 Series - 4k @ 27" and 75 Hz, which means 160 dpi, so you can definitely use native retina scaling (1080p equivalent UI sizes) if you put the screen a little further away or make it act like a 5k display (1440p equivalent) and probably get away with it. TB4 port with 90W PD. 99% AdobeRGB. Huge plus an the aesthetics side: Very very slim borders including the bottom and no logo. Sadly no glossy option with AR-couting, but something has to give I guess.

Superb video, mate! Recently I also had this "problem" with picking up the right ultrawide monitor, mostly for programming as I like to have more of the working space available. I ended up with the Samsung G9 49', it's amazing but it has one big flaw... 1440p. When I achieved the native resolution of 5120x1440 with 120Hz the text not only in my coding editors but also in the browser looked like it was "pixelated" which sometimes, especially at the night ends up my eyes really tired. Right now I'm reconsidering replacing it with something different, but still big enough to call it ultrawide - and you almost convinced me to try with the LG UltraWide 40WP95C-W. I wonder, do you have some comparison and/or opinion with/about the Samsung G9? Is the quality really that better?

Hi There. I bought this monitor after watching your video. I just would like to ask you couple of important questions. I work with Lightroom + Photoshop and edit RAW files and inside Premiere Pro. Would you please tell what picture mode I should be in when I am editing RAW files inside Lightroom and Photoshop and Premiere Pro. Would that be sRGB or DCI-P3 or something else? Also do you need to calibrate this monitor using a calibration software such X-rite Display Pro. Thank you for your help.
@CreatedTech
@CreatedTech Жыл бұрын
The picture mode depends what and where you want your final images and videos viewed. Internet? Print media? etc. If you're just a casual user, it doesn't really matter. However I would choose DCI-P3 because that has a wider color gamut than sRGB, which means it will usually be more accurate. Calibration is the same - usually only professionals need to calibrate monitors, because they need their final images to be extremely color accurate. Unless you also need this capability, I wouldn't waste money on calibration hardware and software.

It's about as good as other monitors. If you're needing extremely accurate colors I would recommend going for a design-specific monitor aimed at color professionals.

The Dell U4021QW UltraSharp 40 Curved WUHD Monitor trumps this one imho. It is also 5k2k and has a built in KVM, which is a killer feature at this level.

I want a 4K-ish monitor with a 16:10 aspect ratio in a 27 or 32 inch size. Really missing the vertical 'head room' from my dead Apple Cinema HD display that recently died.

9:23 is probably the reason I am holding out on buying ultra-wide monitors. I currently have regular 34" ultra-wide samsung monitor at work and it's ok-ish, but not great. Based on ppi calculator it has 138.92 PPI, which is in the "bad" zone of mac resolutions. It should be either ~110 or ~220 for sharp image. It feels like the only ones are Apple monitors or one Dell and one LG monitor out there in existence.

hi guys I went to test this out in store yesterday, for some reason the sound didnt work - it was glitchy. The guys in store used a usb c cable 40gb transfer speed, we couldn't figure it out ? any feedback. Im using a MacBook Pro m1 processor 16GB. Iam looking for a monitor as this tiny screen is doing my head in. Is it time to upgrade the Mac ? I was hoping to get a few more years out of it. Any other suggestions before I buy this monitor ?

Idea for video: I'm watching this video using my M1 Mac mini connected to a 52" television...in landscape. I have yet to see anyone talk about using a monitor in landscape mode. This had always been a dream of mine during the 1980's. Except at that time a landscape monitor was about the price of the computer itself. I love that fact I can see a huge webpage without having to worry about scrolling too much. I can even watch a video at the top while at the bottom have desktop publishing or image editing software at the bottom. No more darting my eyes between two screens. And still display a full 8.5x11 page, again not having to worry about scrolling. (2160x3840, Onkron TS1551 stand)

“no more darting my eyes between two screens” yeah now you’re darting your eyes around 1 screen 🤣

After reading your comment, are you meaning to say “portrait” mode - or vertical positioning of the TV? Either way, I highly suggest getting a capture device as an in-between for your TV and M1 Mac. This effectively separates Apple’s color science and Video card/drivers from controlling your TV, and instead gives you the ability to run a pure signal to the capture device (via Thunderbolt), and then properly color-calibrate your TV and free up bandwidth and graphics-intensive processing power. I’m currently using an M1 MBP, running TB4 into a Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K, then into a 55” LG CX - allowing me to use Calman software to finely calibrate the TV screen, and freeing up all the graphics power of the M1 for video editing. This is a standard now in motion picture editing suites, and the LG TV’s have been the editing standard use product ever since the B series. I also run the late-model 38” LG monitor as my timeline monitor, and this combo (38” monitor and 55” TV) are an incredible combo for video editing.

@@matthewbushey9455 I'm saying the television is physically connect to the stand sideways. So it's 52 inches HIGH rather than 52 inches LONG.
