This is definitely getting lost in the comments, but a small tip for Linus from a lighting designer: If you set one of your key lights to be brighter and warmer, and the other to be cooler and dimmer, your face will have more shadows on it. This lends a directionality to the light, giving more depth to your face, and makes it look more natural.

I had a mother who stayed at home and looked after us full time (4 boys) and a father who worked 9-5 (walked to school with us, and was home before sundown to spend time outside). move the mic farther away, a little higher gain, set one of the key lights to a brighter/warmer setting to add depth, 1080i60 does NOT convert to 1080p30 very well because deinterlacing adds a ton of noise, but overall looks slightly better.

The Behringer Interface is good enough for streaming. I used it to record vocals with a dirt cheap neever mic and it was quite satisfactory. Of course you can get a U87 and an AVID interface...

Would rather not comment on other men's beards, but as a bearded fellow, I recommend shaving the neck early on. I think the hair on the neck just isn't as good looking for 99% and it brings out more contrast to accentuate and strengthen the jawline, which is the goal of male pattern beard. I am getting older videos popping up on my feed now while LTT is on hiatus, so here is to revival commenting... I recently upgraded my video studio as well. I was using two Blackmagic BMCC 2.5K cameras, but they were just too costly and cumbersome to operate. So I bought a Canon 90D to use for HD/4K video, a few Canon lenses including a 35mm f/2.0 IS USM, some nice ikan 576 LED lights ($600 each on sale $300), and a couple of video tripods to hold the Neewer X17 Teleprompters in the two studio areas. One studio is using an Audio Technica AT3035 mic and small Mackie 402VLZ4 mixer, the other is using a Sony wireless lapel. A couple of nice RGB LED lights for background coloring, and away we go. Linus, if you get a proper carpet floor mat then it won't move, the one you have has nubbins that are too short to dig into the carpet. I have a couple like that, so annoying.

@@ajfrost3382 yes pretty much all mics for the application would be directional and most likely condenser. You may lose the tiniest bit of top end as it's not directly on axis but you wont have the constant popping from plosives. You just have to get the air pressure from your mouth not firing directly into the capsule.

Just for reference , you dont need the Elgato adapter for Canon Cameras. There is this thing called "Canon EOS Webcam Utility" . You just use the USB provided, and bang, there you go. Not even an app needed, just the drivers.

His setup is actually sick, with a server-rack mounted beast of a PC, having one lightning 3 cable running into the room for literally everything. So he could have it super clean. Also, after spending YEARS with dual monitors, and now having gone to one 27” 4K monitor (or an ultrawide like my GF) it feels so much more premium, and I’m never going back. His monitor looks large enough

The webcam footage looked post process sharpened, not natively sharp. I also suspect that the dslr wasn’t focused properly as he turned AF off and focused it himself.

Admittedly this is a pretty decent setup, but for anyone who thought they would watch this and get an idea on how they might update their 10 year old audio and video setup to be better - buying a DSLR that's more expensive than what you use for taking the majority of your photographs (your phone) just to act as a webcam really isn't going to be an option. Presumably a couple 8K Red cameras could be made to work as well if price is no object?

He is just an amateur when it comes to lighting and camera gear. By spending money on an old sony a6300, a fast lens like the sigma 16mm f1.4, and finally using a video light instead of those elgato's like the godox sl60, we can get pro level streams. let's not forget that he is using a condenser mic like a dynamic mic for god sake 😂 If brand was there he would have made actually look good even with that gear.

@@iamaduckquack yeah the webcam looked better because the light coming from those Quasar tubes was bounced from the ceiling and giving him an even soft light. Added to that, the webcam is recording in 4k which is way sharper than the 720p the dslr is delivering. He chose the wrong camera in the first place.

I think the difference between the webcam and the camera was miniscule especially when you realize that most people who stream will not be using the full screen to show their face. The Brio is more than enough for most people as long as you have the lighting.

I mean, he does use the GoXLR in the end, and that's made for streaming, even though the preamp in that thing is totally over the top for just streaming as well. But it's easily good enough for everything that's not Studio-Grade-Recording.

- His lighting setup isn't quite right. - His audio video sync is off. Audio needs to be delayed at least 50ms. - The camera is apparently capturing at 720i60, yet the hdmi output can only handle 720p30, causing all sorts of problems. He should be able to turn the camera to record 720p30, not 720p60 to fix a few problems. - The auto focus is even kind of meh, or maybe it's the interlace to progressive conversion or something funky.
