Some criminals can get framed for crimes that they never caused but you will never know if he's truly evil because you are not in fact a god that can read minds of others. It's not an insult to his character; he's an INCREDIBLY well written character, but just like Walter White, Light is absolutely the villain of his story.

Flexie the author and artist of DeathNote are a 2 person team, and they made another manga/anime called Bakuman, about 3 young kids wanting to become manga authors, artists, and voice actor. It is a great love story, work hard for your goal story, and you even get to learn about the manga/anime industry. There are even some subtle nods to death note. It is an amazing story. I hope you consider it when your schedule needs a new show!

Death Note has the strongest first episode in anime alongside Attack on Titan. Some shows take forever to get interesting, but Death Note is immediately compelling. It has the best pacing of any TV show I have ever seen, it's the definition of a "bingeable" show. A channel called "Just Write" did a good video discussing its pacing, I highly recommend watching it (there are spoilers in their video obviously). Death Note also has one of the most memorable protagonists in all of media IMO (Light Yagami).

It is definitely worth mentioning: Light's second test of the Death Note had nothing to do with saving someone and protecting public safety...all he cared about was what would happen if he wrote the guy's name down. He was so emotionally removed from the victim, that he had the forethought to spell the victim's name differently to maximize the probablity of results.

One Piece would give you forever content. But for enjoyment I recommend Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It’s a very deep interesting story about magic girls. Seems like it would be a shallow fan service only show but is in fact the opposite. It’s one of the deeper plotted stories ever animated with almost no fan service (which I prefer)..

As mentioned in other comments, despite what others says, dub is not as good as og sub and will never be. Unless you prefer inferior product, that is. If people want watch to watch animation in dub, watch western animation. Theres plenty of them. Mamoru Miyano (Light's VA) is one of the best in the anime industry and imo, this and Okabe (Steins Gate) is his best work. Ive read Death Note manga 3 times, anime 7-8 times and his voice brings Light to life. His internal monologue, his scheming, his maniacal laugh, his emotion, everything. Compare to dub, it just sounds like some dude reading a script and it fcking insane to me people keep recommending dub. Imagine going to Japan, theres a grandmaster ramen chef close to your place and people instead telling you to go next store to get ramen made by noname western cook. See the idiocy? Stop telling reactors to watch in dub. Just stop. Dont ruin others watching experience just because you like dub. And no, its not better.

I think most people overlook how good the OST is in this show. Can’t find the source now but it was said that budget for the OST for this show was unusually high for an anime series. I mean I’m not sure if this is true but I think whatever budget they gave the composer was not enough! The ost is as much a character in this show and so distinct from anything out there! Happy that you’re starting this show! Can’t wait for your journey. Back when there was no AoT- this was my AoT!
