I spared him for 2 reasons 1) i dont think it would be in Jin's character to kill the guy who was basically his father 2) he would only kill him for the sake of honour, but by becoming the Ghost he has liberated himself from the narrow minded view of the jed...i mean samurai. Meaning Jin can spare his uncle and not worry about his honour.

Personnaly my reasoning for sparring him was more practical : for all his faults, Shimura was still Tsushima's jito, if he dies the island and the it's war effort against the mongols loses it's leadership, and the last thing Tsushima needs is a power vacum. Besides, Shimura did a lot of things wrong but nothing that warrant being executed.

While I agree with sparing his uncle, I also have to point out how kinda screwed he is because if he goes to the shogun and says “heeeey, so about that ghost” he would end up becoming disgraced and most likely stripped of his reputation, samurai clan, and other punishments since him living could be seen as dishonorable. Unfortunately, the choice to spare him or kill him is actually more difficult to make due to the harsh conditions of the samurai.

Throughout the story, Jin breaks his code of honor not just for the sake of rebelling against the culture of Bushido, but because it is the practical thing to do. Why risk lives playing into the Khan's hands when using stealth catches the enemy by surprise? How much worse of a death is it being poisoned vs. bleeding out and choking on your own blood? The final choice of Kill vs. Spare can only be viewed in the concept of Shimura's honor, not Jins. One way or another, Shimura is dying - either by Jin, or by Shogun mandated seppuku. This is because Shimura (unlike Jin) IS bound by the code of honor, being the island's Jito (and fanatically believing in Bushido). To spare Shimura is a fine choice to make: it does fit Jin's character, as he chooses not to kill his Uncle. It is undoubtedly dishonorable for Jin, and even more for Shimura, as he did not die a warrior's death. But valuing Shimura's life over honor is totally fitting for the character. However, the choice to kill Shimura can still be made from the context that Jin makes the choice out of love for his Uncle's last wish. Who knows if Shimura would hunt him down again anyways (like Zuko from avatar). What would Shimura's life even be like after being spared? Presumably one of anguish, regret, and shame. Like with Lady Masako, Shimura would have to live knowing his clan too would be disbanded, and all his life's work taken over by someone else. The greater question to ask is what impact the choice makes on the perceptions of believers in the Ghost: does the kill option make people believe the Ghost is firmly against the samurai, or simply a bloodthirsty monster (for killing his own family). Or does it align the Ghost more with the samurai code (as he followed an honorable act). Similarly, one has to wonder if sparing Shimura leads to the Ghost's perception as a merciful entity, who values life over honor. While others can see the Ghost, as indeed, a dishonorable agent of chaos, opposed to order by the very nature of being against honor. Either choice works, but its also not black and white. I'd like to think about this more.

​​@@Bova-Fettto me it was obvious that I honored his final wish and what I learned a long time ago when playing inFAMOUS Second Son is that usually L2 is the Good choice while R2 is the Bad Choice. Plus if you run around town or small villages and you're hearing rumors from NPC talking about what happened. Spare Ending: - Some random guy made up tall tales of the Ghost handing his armor to a random civilian for a while, even though there's no one around Omi Lake while he's waiting for his uncle so it's kinda weird. - another rumor where uncle Shimura walk back in his the estate while injured and looks very sad. They say that even though the Ghost spare him, it felt he humiliate him without honor. Like he just disrespect his uncle's wish and walked away. Kill Ending: - some rumors say that the shogun's reinforcement is finally arrived and end the Mongol siege and the Jito died in battle to protect the island... but the peasants knew it was the Ghost that slaughter Khotun Khan and his army of savages before they're heading to the mainland. And some say the jito died in a fair duel against the ghost or assassinated in the back at night. Typical high leaders/governmental double standards by doing misinformation to the lower class to save face and seized control. - some people say that the Ghost won the duel and give Lord Shimura his final wish of a warriors death, they say that they're glad that the Jito died with honor and they thank the ghost for that. At least he still has respect on how things supposed to work or else he accidentally inspired certain people to do things that cause chaos.
